Returned the leased modem from Comcast. Applied the lease fee to the next tier of bandwidth and now seeing up to 350Mbs down and 10Mbs up. Very happy with this product and highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Mr Happy I bought this router 2 months ago and started having Internet connectivity problems. This router replaced another NETGEAR router that was having the same issue. This one has gotten worse in the last month about dropping connections to both the Internet and an attached storage drive. Can’t return because it was a week too late when the issues got worse. Now stuck with an expensive faulty device. This is my third NETGEAR router to malfunction. I will have to find another brand to use.

All the lan lights are bright, wifi ate dark, cannot access it, won't even factor reset. And the website is no help. I have registered this product but can't figure out how to return this paperweight.

I have this for a year and its already stopped working. I called tech support and they can help cause I don't have warranty. Now again I have to buy another one but this time it won't be Netgear.

I did pay shipping to have replacement send imidietly and received new which I think was refurbished one. That was working fine for four years then router part died. Modem still works but router is dead. Paying close to $400 for device which works properly only fo 4 years that's to much. No more Netgear for me. Going to another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from C7800 Just A Basic Cable Modem If all you want is a basic cable modem router then it's okay. But if you want more, go buy something else. Neatgear Genie does not support the C7800. ReadyShare has issues to. Got it to work from my laptop, but no other device could access it. So there was NO file sharing. Have kids? Then forget it. Parent Control thru OpenDNS was not consistence and a joke at best. The HIGH setting blocked access to my bank and other sites used to pay bills, online video meetings and schooling, plus a lot of other sites. I did a CUSTOM test and only blocked facebook and youtube. It worked for less than a minute. All I did was refresh the webpage and was able to access those websites. A certificate box popped up a few times then went away. Very disappointed. I sold it and bought an ARRIS

Netgear makes you pay for customer support to try and solve the issue. Never purchasing a Netgear product again and basically wasted my money on this one as it is no more effective than a paperweight.

First the speed you get are slower then the XB6 you get from Xfinty and when you try to talk to customer service about it they will be rude to you, interrupt you and not solve any problem you are having. And if you have any form of accent good luck with them understanding you.

Was hoping for top notch performance, but this thing struggles to deliver 80 mbps 2 rooms away on 5 GHz when I have gigabit speeds from xfinity. The jitter is crazy and often leads to intermittent slowdowns. Support is useless and only wants more money. Will never purchase from netgear again.

Then it stopped working, and I could not get the device to reconnect to the internet. I did not call tech support. I may give it a try, because it does work better then the Xfinity cable modem router combo with more features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really disappointed I'm on Cox Gigablast. The wired speed is great, but WiFi stinks. I barely get 200Mbps on 5GHz with only my router on the channel. 2GHz is even worse. I can be standing right next to it and the performance is abysmal. WiFi also drops randomly, so large downloads reset. Frustrating to say the least. I'm more upset that I threw out the packaging so I can't return it for a refund.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Apparently I got a test model For the premium price and true DOCSIS 3.1 you'd think the stuff that's worked for decades would work in this model. * 5G worked on my iphone for about a week, now the connection is constantly dropped. I've done all the Apple reset recommendations but nothing's worked. * Router does not save edits. I was doubting myself when I changed the SSID and the password and the settings didn't stick. * Bad admin UI and horrible app - This is the most important part of the modem/router next to the actual performance. Wireless settings are in 2 different places (basic and advanced. Just have one wireless settings section - it's not rocket science guys. Really really really disappointing for the top model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid for 1 year, spotty for 1/2, stopped working It was a decent router to replace a Comcast rental with less Ethernet ports but it started to drop connections and require restarts every other day or so. Eventually it stopped connecting to the net with any sort of stability. I tried to factory reset it but it got forever stuck on "Firmware is updating". Not sure to blame Comcast because they run the firmware for this one or the poor hardware in the router/modem. I'd avoid it and will be avoiding Netgear for he foreseeable future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for wired connection. Horrendous WiFi The device works fantastic for wired connections. However, WiFi capability on this device is virtually non-existent. The range of the 5Ghz network is about 5-6 feet from the router. It does not even cover the single room office it is placed in. The 2Ghz network will extend about 15 feet but at extremely poor speed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Ultra-High Speed This is not a great product. It boasts of ultra high speed. But with a one gigabyte plan with my internet provider, I am lucky to get 400mbps. The support people are very nice, but the scripted solutions are always the same. Reboot the device, change MRU from 1500 to 1492 and change the WIFI to a different channel. Same recommendations and same results. It seems to have decent range and good reliability for my smart devices, but it is still slower that it should be. Been looking for a faster and more reliable modem router combo that has similar range as this one, but a lot faster.

Horrible, horrible support: Non-existant documentation, cumbersome, clumsy configuration, non-working sharing of attached printers, non-64 bit compliant USB support software, required to "change" the password every time you want to tweak its configuration, etc, etc. Keep comparing to others if you are considering purchase...

Both channels are fast, even with many wifi devises connected. Range is okay, but really depends on where you locate device. All in all I am very pleased with my C7800 device.

My TV's run on the 5G Wi-Fi with amazing quality for streaming (we don't have cable or satellite for watching TV, so we stream everything). And everyone's computers and gaming works great without any lag, even when we are all doing something online. (**Disclaimer - we pay for the higher tier of speed through our internet provider to make sure we can maintain quality download speeds while we are all online.)I recommend this router if you do a lot of streaming, downloading, and/or gaming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Cable Modem I installed my Netgear C7800 cable modem router about two weeks ago. So far I am very impressed. The set-up with Comcast was super easy and did not require contacting Comcast/Xfinity, I just went through the steps online as instructed. The speed is measuring, Mid 900s to just over 1GB on the downloads and about 40 on the upload, in the same range as to what I was getting with the Xfinity router. The WiFi range is far superior to the original 1Gb modem/router provided by Xfinity. I returned the Xfinity unit after the installation of the C7800. The set-up for WiFi and for assigning IP address reservations was very easy and the iOS app is also useful for on site system management but seems to not be available for remote management. The unit has been totally stable and I have had no problems at all so far. All in all I am very pleased with this device and would recommend it.

I was experiencing constant freezing of programs. After installing the nighthawk, the issue was immediately cleared up. I have not had any issues. Installation was very simple. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in cutting the cord.

Paying for gigabyte speeds and rarely reaching half of that wasn't going to cut it anymore. Even with the higher cost this router/modem combo really pushed the speed letting me enjoy gaming; streaming; and whole smarthome without any lag or drop offs. Highly recommend! Worth the price

It was fast to connect and the settings were easy to navigate. I noticed a broader range for both channels of WiFi (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) and did not have problems with connections afterwards.

Come to find out my modem/router couldn't handle all the devices connected to it, so once we bought this and hooked it up, I could tell the change instantly.!!

Wish it had a way to pause the internet from the app. Unable to use netgear parental controls with this modem also which was annoying to find out. You’re stuck with a very limited open DNS account for some filtering but no active control over internet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A1 cable Modem/Router Money can Buy Hello from Harrisburg Pennsylvania I Purchased this for use with Comcast's Gigabit internet (DOCSIS 3.1) to replace the XB6 modem that Comcast leases with the service and overall I am very pleased with the purchase. Installation was super easy via Comcast's self-activation website, per the instructions on the included quick start guide. The lights on the left side of the device conveniently light up white for 1000 Mbps ethernet connections or amber for 10/100 Mbps connections. I'm getting about 900-950Mbps download and 40-42Mbps upload speeds on my PC on a wired connection (service is advertised as up to 1Gbps download and 35 Mbps upload speeds). My smartphone and other devices connected via 5Ghz WiFi are averaging speeds of 350-600 Mbps down and 33-42Mbps up. The wired speeds are comparable to what I was getting on the XB6, and WiFi speeds appear to be consistently faster and more stable on the C7800

So I did. Theirs had the worst WiFi—half my house would not work. I purchased a newer Netgear Nighthawk and literally had my whole house up and running under an hour. The service provider has great service but substandard tech equipment. Not naming names on purpose.

The retailer directed me to this modem based on the number of devices my household would have on wifi at the same time. I am not a tech person and I was concerned about being able to set it up correctly. It could not have been easier. So easy. The wifi signal throughout the house is good. No complaints from the gamers in the the house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Didn’t deliver proper WiFi speeds I spent an extensive amount of time researching router/modem combos that would be compatible with xfinity (Comcast and would be optimized to support 1 gig speeds. This was supposed to fit the bill. It did not. WiFi speeds were topping out at 40 meg. I had trouble determining who was at fault (xfinity or netgear) as both blamed each other when I spoke with their respective support teams. Bottom line is, the download channels were not emitting to the machine at the right frequencies, thus severely limiting the WiFi capabilities. I ended up swapping this machine out and renting from xfinity again. Highly disappointed. Netgear obviously partners with xfinity (their logo is on the box and the product description clearly indicates that it is compatible). Misleading to say the least.

The connection kept dropping randomly. I replaced it with a new Netgear Nighthawk X4S and have not had a single problem since. Speeds are faster and range is also increased. No problems connecting to my Comcast/Xfinity account. I would definitely recommend this product.

I researched and found the C7800 Netgear uses the Broadcrom chipset. I’ve finally found a stable and superior cable modem with the speed that offers me what I expected. If you are having Wifi issues with your cable provider run don’t walk to the store and purchase this cable modem.

At that point I found out I needed to upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1. I looked everywhere at the time for a docsis 3.1 modem/router combo but only one company made it, Netgear! So I decided to invest in the Nighthawk X4S. Before ever owning one, I heard nothing but great things about the nighthawk line of products. What a great purchase. I love this thing. I've had zero issues and the wireless signal works flawlessly to devices on the other side of my apartment. I'm even picking up signal all the way out to my car. I will probably never buy another modem or router from another company.

Called the cable company to register my product, hooked the device up and it started working. Still need the wifi extender since I have a lot of walls to interfere with the signal. But overall, it is a bit of a step up from the cable company's modem. Thank you Netgear.

This modem drastically improved our ability to have multiple devices in the house including laptops, smart phones, etc. to all be online and get everything done we need. Highly recommend.

I had an ASUS CM32-AC2600 that dropped the connection way too much, and with a wireless component that became defective after 16 days. Instead of buying a second, I saw this and 'pulled the trigger' without hesitation, and I'm more than satisfied with how reliable it has been. It hasn't dropped a connection and it's still going strong after about two weeks. I know that isn't a long time, but considering the ASUS 2-in-1 gave up pretty quickly, I'm confident this was a great choice.

Smooth transition between unhooking the COX router and connecting the Netgear router. I only had to do some fine tuning to get my printer on the lan with the new settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nighthawk x4s Wifi Cable modem/router the 1st one i purchased was defective, the lights on top didnt work. returned it and exchanged it for a second one. the second one was also defective, the lights on the antenna did not work, and the 5G WiFi did not work. after an hour and a half on the phone with netgear, resetting device multiple time and a few otherthing i was instructed to do, and the operator not listening to what i was telling him, or him not understanding due to him being in a different country and then him hanging up on me. i returned that one as well purchased a 3rd one with a protection plan and it has worked fine so far. 2 weeks so far, givin the unrealiability of the device i think 3 stars id definitely more than fair. only reason why is when this device actually works, it is beyond lightning fast, and the distance the wifi reaches is insane.

And since the nighthawk x4s is a router the extra gigabit ports is a great call especially how the regular modems don’t all support multiple Ethernet ports. Nighthawk is also fast boosts up the performance which is also amazing. I love it

Everything is great with the product except if you have a problem with your connection, it will lose it's gateway address. There is only one way to fix this, and that is to call tech support. They will help you only within the first 90 days ( my first one was 120 days old) if you have paid for it. So long story short if you buy this product, paid for the extended warranty and tech support.

The 2.4g runs easily outside the walls of the house. 5g band still covers all interior space even with router not centrally located. Speeds are effective for 4k streaming anywhere in the house wether on 2.4 or 5g. Very nice!

Drops connection intermittently where the signal strength drops off. Tried to extend range with an ASUS repeater but the two devices did not play well together. Waiting on delivery of a Netgear EX8000 mesh range extender. Will update comments once EX8000 installed.

The only thing I had to do is make sure you have good cables connections in the home, I needed to replace one to keep it from dropping connections all the time, but once the cable was replaced it has been stable. Love this product.

I wish it had another input so it could be used as a stand alone router if needed. It's a great product! Don't pay your cable company every month for rental!!!

The first one, the Netgear tech told me it must be defective. The 2nd one was identical in its performance, or lack there of. The box clearly states that this item would support Cox, and the Gig speed. Nothing I or the techs did, even with a tech coming to my home, could get this to work as advertised.

This modem was easy to install and setup. Biggest problem to it being a self install is having to call the internet provider to provision it. I knew the Nighthawk X4S was going to be huge so that wasn't an issue. So far, I'm really liking this thing!

The 2ghz will not do more that 10mbs and the 5ghz frequently goes on smoke breaks and just stops working.I have checked the wired devices speed and during peak hours I get 800mbs but the wifi keeps dropping even if I am sitting feet from it at the same time. None of my other Netgear modems caused me problems. Well i just swapped out the last one. Hopefully the new one will work .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ... until it wasn’t I bought my Nighthawk X4S as a cable modem rental replacement (Xfinity and it worked pretty well (albeit, never achieving consistent GigaBit speeds) until about 8 months in when the 5GHz band stopped broadcasting a WiFi signal. A few months later the 2.4 GHz band follows. Net gear and Comcast support for it are non-existent. Would not recommend to anyone.

This Netgear Nighthawk X4S box has the latest hardware with DOC-SIS 3.01 to provide 1,000 GB/s download connections, placing it at the current best for highest speed and largest number of high speed WIFI connections that can be made with one cable modem. You can adjust the antenna to optimize transmission direction and with 4 antenna, you can really cover a very large area for WIFI use. This unit allows one to have 4 desktop computers hard-wire ethernet connections and up to 32 WiFi connections, all in one box. Its software was very simple to activate and the stability and power (WiFi distance covered) is the best!! I highly recommend this all in one DOC-SIS 3.1 cable modem with the largest WIFI number of connections. The only glitch is it doesn't have VPN connectivity and I Hope some firmware upgrade is done to access VPN through this modem-router. otherwise this is a great product which I'd recommend if speed is what you need.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Electronic junk that caused me a lot of stress Although I paid over 300$ for this device it only worked correctly About 2 months and then started constantly dropping the internet connection. Since I frequently work from home this interferred with my productivity and caused me to continuously be calling my ISP until they came out and identified the cable modem as the issue. When I called Netgear to have the device replaced since it is under a one year warranty I was put on the phone with a support person who kept me on the phone for 2 hours before finally conceding that the device would need to be replaced. Then she told me that there were currently no replacements! So at that poi t I bought a Motorola cable modem that has been working fabulously and cost half the price of the Netgear. I would give Netgear no stars but it wasn’t an option.

I am able to get data throughput reaching the limits of my service (100M over Wi-Fi. This unit provides precisely what I'd hoped for...enough coverage to be able to use our Wi-Fi throughout our home, and even at the back patio, at rates that allow streaming without buffering, even when kids are playing video games.

I live in a large home and with other routers signal strength was limited to certain areas of the house. Now with my new Nighthawk C7800 I have full home coverage with excellent download speeds through wi fi as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best 3.1 router/modem combo on market I had done my research on all the latest 3.1 routers and modems on the market. This model was supported by my Internet provider and my new high-speed gigabyte Internet is capable of running at max speed's. The best part I love about this unit is the combination of the router and modem. I have a household of five very active Internet users. Prior to my upgrade speeds were very inconsistent, not anymore though. Another great feature of this unit is the mobile app that I can use to selectively discontinue Internet usage whenever I want to specific devices. I might add my kids hate this, however I will tell you now whenever I need something done around the house, I just pull up the app and instantly; job done! I would highly recommend this unit to anyone in the market for a 3.1 router modem combo.

We have gamers in our house so it worked just fine. Called the company they try to help, but at the end they just end up replacing it. Still waiting for it to get here.

Before switching I was getting 420 Mbps download speed on my phone with wifi and the same on Ethernet on my laptop I pay for 400 Mbps from cable company. After about an hour of trying to communicate with it the cable company gave up I called tech support at netgear and told them what the cable co said and that the modem would even let me reset the password and sign on to it the techndetermined that it was malfuncting and told me to go exchange it so went to Best Buy to do that and found out that I bought the last one so they had to order it and have it delivered a few days later the new one came it let me sign on and change the password and the cable company was able to provision it but now my download speed is no more than 120 at best I’m still paying for 400 but can’t get more than 120 I’m wondering if netgear just makes junk

Can only get 1/3 of the speed suppose to. Netgear only offers 1 yr warranty and then charge for everything. Only fix by tech support was that I should buy a new unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst NETGEAR experience to date! I am now on my second C7800 in as many weeks. Both cable modems were direct delivery orders from Best Buy to my home. The first failed to complete initialization (boot up. It continued to hang up on either up link or down link. I spent time and money, trouble shooting the status of my service. Even paying for a specialized technician, checking input signal and speed. The Tech eventually installed a Technicolor DOCSIS 3.1 and everything worked fine. I returned the first unit to Best Buy and we quickly ordered another unit, only to have that unit arrive with a broken antenna base. Will not buy again!!!

One note - instructions should include "contact your internet provider to have them initiate/update your service." (Maybe it did, but I couldn't find it. The tech was quite helpful in getting me updated online, and told me politely that I needed to call them (without making me feel dumb). :) Will definitely buy from NetGear again if I need another modem/router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beware! Although I bought the device from Best Buy I thought it was important to share my experience with the C7800. I don’t typically spend the effort to write reviews but feel it was important to in this case. My apologies in advance for the length of this review. I’ve had other Netgear devices that have performed well, but not the C7800. On June 9th I purchased the modem/router after a lightning strike took out lots of my home electronics. I struggled for several weeks trying to get my smart home working reliably again. The root cause of my problem was the C7800 dropping 2GHz WiFi connections periodically. Then its SSID would disappear so you couldn’t even log the device back it. Another reboot and it was live again. By this time, it was too late to return it to the store. After numerous tech support calls, chats and troubleshooting sessions I convinced them to send me a replacement. (It shouldn’t have been that hard! It was clearly defective. The replacement was a refurbished device that had even worse problems. I have hobbies that include designing devices that are WiFi enabled. With the refurb I was able to log into the C7800 without the router acknowledging my device in the attached devices screen in the router. A big security scare for me. Plus, the router kept dropping devices. After many more discussions and troubleshooting sessions, they agreed to send me another C7800. I actually wanted them to send me a different lower cost router but they refused. However they did agreed to send me a NEW C7800 this time. Unfortunately, they sent another refub that I didn’t even try. I returned that one and they eventually sent me another new C7800, again refusing to send a cheaper router to make me happy. I would like to say this one worked better but this device couldn’t give me a display of what devices where connected to the router 2 times in a row and get the same list. At this time, I DEMANDED a different device. This was day 113 of my battle with the C7800 and Netgear. After that demand they ghosted me, so I finally went out and bought a Arris modem and Linksys router. I had it working reliably in 2 hours (of which 1 hour was driving to and back from Best Buy). Finally at day 142 I heard back from Netgear as the case was still open. I told them the C7800 is in the trash where it belongs and close the case, I don’t want to waste any more time with you. So just a warning. The device might work well for some simple applications but anything beyond that I would not recommend the device. I’m also concerned about its security. I offered to work with Netgear engineers to address the security concerns but the tech support person did not take me up on the offer. So I’m not so happy with Netgear as well. Just for reference I feel competent in my analysis having 2 degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a 35 year technical career.

I had bought a Netgear extender thinking it won’t have the range but it does not need it and actually caused more issues with sn extender. I am still looking at a mesh network but this router seems to have the range I need. I have to check the range outside once the weather warms up.

From the photos it looked like it had external antennas that could be detached. Unfortunately, it does not. Looking back at the description you have to read the fine print in other models to find the verbiage that is missing in this model, of "external non-powered antennas" to determine if they are the detachable antennas or not. But now that the money is spent on this unit, I am stuck with it for now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product with no service or support Just bought this device, 4 hours later i still cannot do something thats typically simple as updating the Firmware during the set up. 2 hours on the call someone hangs up on me. The product is working great with excellent coverage which is what i expected. As much as this product costs you would think Netgear could support it as well as their competitors lower cost models. Terrible, i will continue to see if i can figure it out on my own as the forums make it sound easy but not one of the hundreds of comments are even close to identifying how to perform an update. For the costs i would probably just buy an middle of the road product next time.

It treated it like it was being hacked. I ran all the options to fix and the only solution was to get a new router. My new router has been awesome and more stable. Sometimes you get what you paid for, I’m glad I made the leap.

I was surprised to find out that my router would only process 30-40 mps up and down. After a month of conversation to have Comcast fix their tap, they started to blame the router. When they installed their router I was getting 300 mps down and 40 mps up. Please help cause I don’t know what I should do.

This however was not the case with Netgear. I have heard NightHawk is a good router but its equally good cable modem as well. Four powerful antenas also match with its performance. I dont feel any signal drop or lag in streaming and I get the speed I subscribed for around the whole house.

You know it’s bad when you starting turning off Wi-Fi so your devices are forced to use their cellular signal for a faster download!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Management Interface Non-Functional I consider myself tech savvy, and have configured many Cable Modems and WiFi Gateways. However, the C7800 has been a major problem for me. The performance of the management interface 192.168.0.1 is a huge disappointment. Maybe I just got a bad C7800. I did a system reset and was able to set up the SSIDs and passphrases. Then a day later when I logged into the interface it was very very slow, and often did not even return the sub-menus. It never did produce the device list, and consequently I was not able to assign any IP addresses to MAC addresses. Also, about half of my Smart Devices were not able to attach to the network even though I used the same SSID and the same passphrase as my previous WiFi gateway. I'm very disappointed. If customer support can resolve my issue, I will be happen to amend this review. But at the moment, I am very disappointed and cannot recommend the C7800.

The incorporation of the DOCSIS 3.1 modem is smart. Living life in a 2,000 square foot single story with no weak or dead signal is sweet. Uploading firmware updates are a snap. I love this wi-fi router / modem combination.

As far as connecting the router to the Nighthawk app, I still have not been able to connect. Deleted and reinstalled the app three times, and followed the step on how to connect three times, ALSO, the product does not have a QR code. I got to one point of being able to attempt to input my router's password, still will not connect. Failed username and password. I don't know if "admin" is case-sensitive or what. When I connect to my router with the IP address 192.168.0.1, it's very easy but the app, has no joy. I don't know if there's something that NetGear can do to update their app because it's very faulty on my end.

They suggested I buy their service plan but their plan only covers items that have current warranties so why would I buy a plan I can't use. Lately during the thunderstorms I have to constantly reset it. One antenna on longer stand straight I have to tape it. I am a bit disappointed. I am a loyal customer of the Netgear brand for many years. I would recommend this product for larger homes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No way to update firmware. As a private owner, there is no way to update the firmware. Because the firmware is not update, the Android and iOS apps won't work. This has been a terrible experience.

Your ISP might make you activate the equipment on their connection so don’t worry if it doesn’t immediately provide service. Much better range and signal strength than the ISP equipment. Practically zero latency issues as the ISP always had them. I would buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Netgear C7800 I purchased it in year 2018 and the combo of the modem and router was great for five years (no streaming videos). Past two months, there were a lot of buffering and slow speed. I purchased a new router (WiFi6) yesterday and turned off the old router (C7800). The modem (C7800) is working perfectly fine. No buffering. I guess the old router (C7800) may be weak due to several streaming videos.
