Really like it when compare with the other two (not from LG). Will replace the other two that I bought before, as soon as I can. Really like the product at the first use. "WOW!" was used for this LG BH14 so many times.

It's the last LG product I'll ever purchase as its the 3rd LG drive I've owned to fail due to software update. No support what so ever because of the drives age. Why purchase from a company that doesn't stand behind their products in anyway?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Failed to burn Blu-Ray I purchased this model back in 2014, and just now I tried to use it as a bluray burner for the first time, but it failed. I tried both Nero, and Power2go, but no use, I tried to update the firmware from 1.01 to 1.03, tried to burn with 4x speed even though the discs (BD-R 25GB) I have support 6x. I tried everything, I sent the error log file to Nero for inspection, but it seems from their reply that the problem not from the software nor from the 3 discs I tried to burn my files. CD and DVD burner works just fine. FYR: The Blu-Ray disc I purchased from newegg: BD-R PlexDisc 6X 25GB, 50 Discs. I do not recommended LG brand for Bluray burner at least, I will purchase Asus model, even though it is more expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Won't spin up I bought this a month ago, and since I didn't realize you needed to purchase a license to play blurays I haven't touched it. I tried taking a second crack at using a VLC work around but now my player won't recognize anything put in it. It just doesn't even check if there is a disc, I got it to work once after unplugging it for awhile but it's now dead weight. ABSOLUTE TRASH

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Follow Up To My Post From Dec 2021 (WH14NS40) I returned 2 new burners to LG in Dec 2021, which I purchased from Newegg. Each burner died within 2 months from the date I received each one. I send both to LG for replacements. LG sent me used replacements. The 2 replacements were both model WH16NS40. I was able to burn about 15 Blu Ray discs with the first burner before it died. I installed the second burner. I was about to burn 6 Blu Rays before it died. Both would spin up and down, then fail. They ruined many of my blank Blu Ray discs. I installed both in another computer. They both failed. I ran Dell Support Assistant on my computer. After testing each drive, it stated hardware failure for both. Before 2021, the LG burners I purchased lasted me 1 year plus. The 2 I purchased in 2021 and the 2 replacements are junk. LG might be using cheaper parts to cut costs. I will not return these used burners and pay for return shipping.

Got a new bluray a few days ago in the mail, watched it, went to watch another disk and it stopped working. I put in a different disk and it spits it out and tells me to put in a disk. Now, it almost never will play a bluray and intermittently fails with DVDs. At least it'll still work 100% of the time with CDs... Waste of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Value and reliable ODD I have owned a number of LG BD-RE Drives going back to the WH10LS30 and most recently the 14x BD-RE Drive and I have had Excellent results with all. I still use the 10x and a 12x writer on a regular basis and I have rarely had failed writes. Considering the price that I have paid and the ease of installation of these internal Blu-Ray writers I am confident in my recommendation to anyone looking for long term, large capacity storage. I am also a Movie Buff and I have an extensive collection that I have created "Back-Ups" for that I use for regular viewing and providing I do my part in the process the result is always flawless. LG is absolutely my choice for Blu-Ray Drives. Another aspect of this experience is the fact that LG regularly provides Firmware updates for their products that improve the function and add to the abilities of their BD-RE Drives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time problems with an LG burner I have use LG burners faithfully for over ten years. This is the first time I have encountered problems with LG burner. So far it's a fantastic coaster maker. Apparently the one I have is defective and has to be replaced. So I with re review this product when it is replaced. One thing I can tell you is the software included in the retail version is poor. You can't burn a DVD with it until you upgrade and pay more for the full version. I paid more money for the retail version shouldn't you get working software with it. Back soon I hope.

I have many other LG products throughout my home, including a washer and dryer. Each and every LG product is of high quality. I would look toLG first when I am purchasing a product that they make.

I bought an AC which didn't cool anything... and this Blu-ray optical drive? Well, it just decided not to read most of my disks. Some work, others don't. "LG" or "LB"? I also burned a few video's on DVD+ and CD-R music discs. The writer reads discs very fast. This Writer does not have any Multi- Media burning software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best thing in optical since optical came out The storage capacity is amazing and perfect for me and my movie and music collections. It was awful having to spend and spend on hundreds of CD's and even DVD-DL's for this. Not only is the storage capacity fantastic, this thing works beautifully out-of-the-box on Linux. This is another main important feature for me since I will not ever use Microsoft's OS's ever again. It's fast, quiet, and even the eject button is much nicer and easier to hit than any other similar device on the market. This thing simply made life easier for me and the price was extremely nice too since I live on a pittance of a disability check and can't afford these things just any ol' time I want one - cheap or not!

After 6 mos. mine has quit reading dvds and will only read blu-ray. Consider other players before choosing this one.

I purchased it as a stand-alone OEM unit. I was able to Burn and Read Blu-Ray Discs as well as normal/regular DVD's. I have Not had any problems with it. I have software that I can use with it, but I am still looking for the best freeware for it. Next time I think that I will pay more for the Non-OEM version so that I can begin using it right after I Install it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this BD writer bought it on the recommendation of quite a few members of an audio/video forum and it's proven to be exactly as they've described, quiet, reliable and a workhorse. i use it to make copies of movies, both dvd & blu-ray, and the quality of the copies is perfect - it will burn low quality or the economically priced blank BD-R discs other BD writers i tried wouldn't. a happy user

Kept using hoping just flakey discs, eventually became too unreliable to use for valuable data. Drive was 9 months old with not a lot of use.

Have about a month now and watched several movies both regular and Blu-Ray with excellent playback quality. Drive is very quiet and performs well. Came with Cyberlink Power DVD 10 and other cyberlink software. Did not use all of the features yet but I'm confident they will work fine. Very pleased with my first Blu-Ray burner.

Unfortunately the included software does not let you actually burn a Blu-ray, you would have to pay for an upgrade. However, I have successfully burned a DVD. I'd recommend that you buy this drive alone and purchase whatever software you want separately. Other than that, I recommend this drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Drive I had originally purchased a dvd writer from another manufacturer and had compatibility issues with my Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H rev 1.1 mobo, i5 3570K CPU running Windows 7 Home Premium so I decided to get the latest LG because they are more compatible. I just built my first computer and I am very pleased with this drive. It has a lot of features like M-DISC and BDXL disc support. It comes with Cyberlink software including Media Suite 10 and Power DVD 10. The latter you absolutely need to play blu rays on your computer. They are both good programs. This drive is pretty quiet. I have used it for ripping CDs to FLAC and ALAC files with EAC and dBpoweramp and it produces flawless rips. The design is really cool and has a nice, raised letter, shiny "LG" and logo on the front. These are only aesthetics, but it's a nice bonus.

No driver dl was necessary as win7 automatically recognized it and installed drivers. It read the BD fine and listed contents of the disc but I couldn't watch any movies because none of the media players on my machine worked with it so I have no idea how it performs.

It died this month, November. It also was beyond the 30 day return period. I would never buy another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible Grinding Noise When Playing DVDs This Blu-Ray burner is only three years old and it has started making a horrible grinding noise as it plays DVDs. Removing and reloading the DVD does not help. If I can't fix it, I'll have to replace it because it's so loud it distracts from the show.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good ODD for the money, firmware somewhat lacking. Purchased this drive to be able to burn blu-rays as well as watch an occasional movie. Drive installed easily and no compatibility issues. Drive came pre-bundled with Cyberlinks Power DVD 10 which does play but not burn blu ray discs so expect to have to upgrade to Cyber links 11 or above. Drive had some issues playing newer blu rays, codecs are a little out of date and LG has been very slow updating their firmware for this drive. All in all a good drive and if you can find it on sale, snag it but if you can afford too, by a newer version.

I am using it to make blue ray movies from my family vacation videos. It is very easy to maneuver through user menus and obtain the end product you are seeking. The SLI technology adds to the ease and speed with which this product works. This is a must have to anyone who wishes to create incredible discs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poorest quality LG product I've ever used This unit ran great for the first couple of months. It started running slowly and I didn't use it for the next 3 months. Now it has taken more than 2 hours to start burning and still hasn't started. It takes 45 minutes to read one of the disks it has already written and took less than a minute to read, 6 months ago. Of course, by now the warranty has expired and to make things more difficult, this was given to me as a Christmas present, so I have no receipt. If you purchase one of these units, keep testing it so that you can return it before the warranty wears out.

The Blu-ray discs hold almost five times as much data or video as a DVD disc! If you search you can find the Blu-ray discs almost as cheap as DVD discs. With a sata conversion cable I purchased online I am using it with my laptop, which brings the price down a lot as compared to an external burner!!

The few data discs that I've created have burned correctly (verified by third-party data copy/move/verification software in addition to the burning software) and are working as expected despite being on cheap house-brand 4x BD-R media. One of them was even created at 12x write speed by accident and is fine. Hopefully the drive lives up to reviews of it and its' 16x successor, so far it hasn't let me down at all aside from cost of related software (which it was clearly labeled OEM, so not the drive at fault).

It looks really good in my computer, it has a "rocker-like" switch, instead of a round push button style for opening the tray , so it gives it a very modern and sleek appearance. I think it performs very well and is quiet while operating, I did have some vibration issues after I first installed it, but I went back into my computer case and installed mounting screws instead of the "handy easy install" tabs that came with my computer case (I highly recommend this). My only gripe, you might say, is the software suite by CyberLink that comes with this product. First of all, it was outdated, and extremely feature limiting, I eventually was able to update much of the software, but the actual Blue Ray Disc playing software is quite feature limited and constantly "prompts" to purchase the latest "paid" version,(for quite a bit of money, may I add). One would think that when you pay for a "retail version" of a BD Player/Burner, it would be fully usable on one's computer, eh? All that aside, I highly recommend this unit and think will not regret purchasing one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked exactly as expected Purchased this because a media drive failed in my desktop computer. Assembly was quick and easy. Connection to an 8 port usb3 hub purchased at the same time was simple. Fired my system up and was a little concerned at first but after allowing my system time to recognize everything, all was well. Drive is fast but is noticeable when it spins up but it is also sitting on my desk next to my keyboard. Firmware was up to date when it arrives at my home. Drive seems mechanically sound but only time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performance until they die I have 2 of these in my custom pc of 9 years, and worked fantastic, until they stopped being recognized by my pc. Talk about consistency, both players stopped within a week of each other. Any further comments are against writing guidelines, so we'll leave it at that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plug and play simple Took less than 5 minutes to install. Simply opened up the computer, plugged in the cables, and closed it back up. Although it would have been nice to have the power cable included. Booted up and the computer found it right away. It has been working flawlessly for ripping Blu-rays - about an hour for a disc. Great product for a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I just finished building the system, installing Windows 7 and burning movies I own for testing purposes on this drive and they have been amazing. I have tried about 4 different types of DVDR's, 3 x DVD-R's and 1 x DVD+R and they have all worked flawlessly, from different manufacturers as well and I havent even flashed the firmware, I wont either. I have nothing but good things to say about this drive. I have not burned Blu-Ray discs as of yet, but I am sure I will soon. BUY IT

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely meets my needs I needed a full rebuild on my home built PC and decided to go with two of these Blu-Ray writers. I'd had an LG DVD drive in the old machine and got years of hard usage out of it. These drives are both fast and quiet. I haven't used them for burning Blu-Ray disc yet, but have been using them heavily to rebuild my music library and have not had even a slight hiccup from either of them. I recommend them without hesitation!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and compatibility! I have always bought other brand name DVD writers. I decided to give this LG WH14NS40 a try. I've always loved LG products and this one didn't disappoint right from the start. Installation is easy, and my Windows 10.1 1870 build installed it without issue. It plays all my movies, game discs and music CD's perfectly and beautifully! I didn't even install any installation files to be able to use it. I did however take advantage of the few programs LG has to offer to expand my experience. And I can honestly say I couldn't be happier. I will be a continued LG fan forever. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Blu-ray Drive This drive was easy to install into my computer and it provides and good picture with either DVDs or Blu-ray discs using Power DVD. The drive loads fast and has very good playback quality. I have not tried burning discs with it yet. I even ordered a second one for another computer.

I had to purchase my own Cyberlink software. Which cost more than the drive itself. Other than that no cons.

Finally needed it as a Blu-Ray player and sent it in to LG for repair. Not 2 months later and again the drive reads no disks of any kind. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best BD Drive for the Money This drive is quiet, responsive and fast. I am now able to enjoy BD Disc's as well as CD's and DVDs without having to worry about if my drive will play it or not. As for writing, its quick, accurate and reliable. It has no problem working with my creation software or my player software. The Audio and Video output are Top Notch. I don't know if I'll ever use the M Disc feature, but it sure is nice to know its capable of reading and writing those disc. Overall, this is the best money I've spent in a long time, I can't say enough good things about this performer. Kudos.
