New PC has laptop type DVD disk, which you must snap disk onto center of drive. Seems flimsy, tray loading much better. Works fine for Windows 10 no drivers needed. Rated 5 out of 5 byantoniobrownjr from Started off great but now having issuesI originally purchased back in November when I learned my new pc had only one internal slim type drive with speeds of only 8x. I was thrilled to learn that this product had up to 24x speed. It worked great for about a month and then I started noticing burning errors and while reading a disc it would seize up in the middle of the read. For example while checking a burned disc for errors it would stop reading the disc (the light stopped flashing green) but the drive still makes noise as if it is still reading the disc. Also the allotted time it would show to complete would increase instead of decrease letting me know it wasn't working. I thought it was a fluke so I took it back for an exchange and now the same exact thing is happening with the new one. I'm not sure what's causing this as I have tried it on both my usb 2.0 and 3.0 ports. When it freezes like this I either have to restart my pc or unplug the power adapter from the drive and plug it back in. It's very annoying that I can't use it to read discs back to back without this happening. Other than that it works great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Has worked well, been a good product, the price was fair and it appears well made so I think it was a good buy, good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 byDripPan from Great Product!I ordered a laptop without a CD writer/reader because it is seldom used and another item to get broken on the laptop. I do take it along sometimes if I think I'll need it but most of the time I leave it at home and use it when needed.My personal thoughts on the matter is CD writer/readers were very important for backups and such but with USB drive with much more storage space, the CD writer/reader is seldom needed.

This information is not located on the box either. I feel mislead by this product that I bought. It is a nice product I like that is it is a nice external disc drive to use, and it makes you feel like you have the most powerful machine in the world hearing it burn the disc. This is just my personal preference. Just remember that they do not support Memorex, and it does not warn you on the box. I doubt any store employee knows of this issue.

I like that it has an alarm that let's you know that the door is still opened. Cannot not say too many good things about the exterior though, scratches easily and has marks on it already (discoloration) that will not come off. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Purchased it because my new laptop didn't have a DVD drive (becoming very common).The only issue had was getting the driver loaded. Windows 8.1 is very deficient when it comes to drivers and add ons. While the previous versions of Windows were pretty much plug and play for adding accessories, 8.1 expects you to buy all addins, drivers, etc.If your LG drive doesn't function right away, try it on another computer, chances are it's a Windows issue not the drive!

After bootup drive appears in the network, once any disc is inserted it disappears. Not worth any more time to invest in software updates, reboots or research. nothing helps. Expensive paperweight. Buyer beware.

I tried to get it to work on Windows 10 to no avail and on Windows 8 . It will recognize the drive until you put a dvd in then disappear . For example it has been averaging 2-4 minutes to burn 10-12 track CDs of 55 - 70 minutes in length !! Pretty good in my opinion. My Macs talk to it and it obeys commands..like open tray when I want to burn a DVD. I close the tray and my Macs tell me a disk is ready to burn. It talks backFantastic product

I bought it primarily for listening to CDs and ripping CDs, but I have tested it for DVDs and it works fine there also. The horizontal sturdy tray feature is the best part and the reason I got it. My computer actually has an optical drive but it is vertical, flimsy and extremely difficult to use. So the external drive makes my life easier. One suggestion though for designers: move the button to the side or top instead of its position below the tray. It is very difficult to hit the button when the tray is open. Poor ergonomics.

It did NOTHING when set up and plugged in....I have spent and ENTIRE DAY trying to find software to either reinstall on my laptop or drive but IT EXISTS NOW WHERE and LG sight after regerstering my product mentions the software CD in the manuel but there isn't any further information or help. BEYOND FRUSTRATED....and has ruined my timeline for completion of this extremely important project...

This corrupted, that corrupted, file not found. EEch! Then I tried to skip one install, (unchecked) It still installed. Finally used System Restore to get rid of all this junk and found some free software online. Laptop refuses to acknowledge drive. Have to run discs manually. I had been struggling for two months trying to get the right program to work. It turned out the cheap external optical drive I bought previously was outdated and useless.
