IBM Rational Software Architect is a design and development tool that leverages model-driven development with the Unified Modeling Language (UML) for creating well-architected applications and services.

Rational Software Architect unifies all aspects of architecture and development into one powerful and easy-to-use tool. It supports understanding, designing, managing, and evolving enterprise solutions and services. The product includes all the features of Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software and is built on top of the open and extensible Eclipse platform and leverages several open-industry standards. This enables users to create applications optimized for IBM middleware, and those developed using middleware technology from other vendors.

IBM Rational Software Architect - Fixed Term License (1 year) + Software Su is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hesitating to renew The product is okay, but expensive without the rewards of regular updates. Documentation is difficult to locate and not exactly current.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RSA is the best tool for architecture With its swiss army knifte tools and extensions with the added benefit of a universal translator opportunity, RSA is the best in the business. You can do anything in an organization with regard to planning, designing, or integrating vertically, horizontally, or externally across an ecosystem. You can also manage software or systems projects, programs, portfolios as well as organizational or enterprise/ecosystems in a smarter manner. You can gain visibility into what you have while simulating decisions into future versions of your project/portfolio/organization. It works seamlessly with Jazz and with a plugin seamlessly with Doors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from does the job quite neatly good on capabilities, though there is a learning curve, Im happy that it meets my needs to define the architecture very well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from least favorite of all of the model based tools I've used a variety of products, including IBM Rhapsody, Sparx enterprise architect, NoMagic MagicDraw, Artisan, but Rational Software Architect has been my least favorite of all of these. I like other IBM products, just not RSA.It has had several bugs, it has a lot of issues of compatibility between versions that has caused problems, gets hung up and low, and doing several sequence diagram and other variety of diagrams seems its just not as user friendly as other tools. I've tried more than one version, but at least for the V8.0.4 had issues with even things like menus where the "Ok" buttons after several prompts was disabled with no apparent reason why #nothing wrong seemed to be selected/clicked before# and then I clicked somewhere else in the model and suddenly the "OK" button became enabled. I've never seen this user menu issue in any other tool or program I've seen in my entire life, but happens every time. I don't know how an average user would know how to click elsewhere and figure that out as I randomly did.The Help menu in the tool is generally insufficient. Also do not like how I can't seen to be able to get a SysML extension for the tool as an option for continued future use. There are several things that should be resolved with RSA before I could start to consider using it for a future project when compared to other tools. I've been using RSA for 3 years for perspective #tool not chosen by me#. I used IBM Rhapsody and other tools before that and do not have any of the complaints with the other tools.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid software I used this product on my last project and it was very helpful. It was already installed in my company so it was ready to help me architect my solution.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product - missing entry level capabilities RSA is the best UML modeling solution out there. But it is missing entry level capabilities that keep it from being used in a much wider sense. More wizards and utilities to keep the modeling details from the user. It is great at the breadth of features, but it overwhelms most users.
