It seems that the ink is old as it is very faint. This was very expense and not really happy this time.

My copying and printing requirements are minimal -- and I was away for four weeks between December 2nd and February 14th. The expense is great for a "high yield" cartridge that, seemingly, is not. But there seems to be no alternative except to seek a printer brand with less expensive cartridges. HP has us financially captive.

So far I have received 4 of the 906XL cartridges and in each case when the cartridge was taken out of the cardboard box and the plastic wrapper was removed ink began to spill all over the place out of the fill hole. I have used the 902XL cartridges with no issues.

It leaked all over my floor first time and the other two times I opened it over a garbage pale and it leaked. I called HP and they said that never had any problems. I assure you I opened it properly.

Had to realign the heads and clean them twice. The old Blk 902 Cartridge was the only one that printed normally. Worst: I have three (3) photos to upload and your app won't complete the procedure.

I ordered, they delivered, the ink went into my printer with minimal effort and I sent back the old cartridges in the "PRE-PAID, environmentally friendly" envelope provided by HP. If you care at all about where the used cartridges go, use this process!! It's safe, it's fair, it environmental, and most of all it's "Convenient"!!

My mistake, tried to drill new cartridge to suck ink out and put it in old cartridge, but just made a mess of it. Bottom line is make sure the replacements are compatible before ordering.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP PRINTERS FAIL I have spent a small fortune on ink for this HP Officejet Pro 6978 printer. I quickly learned that the printer will not print properly with non-HP ink. Although it is extremely expensive, I replaced all ink with HP. It didn't make a difference. I have tried cleaning the printhead, and even bought another identical printer, but the new printer doesn't work any better. I am beyond frustrated and will ask for a refund on the expensive new ink I purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unsatisfactory Cartridge I originally ordered a 902XL black ink cartridge for my printer and received a 906XL which is compatible. A month later nothing was printing out. I don't print much and thought my printer was broke. After much research and time I decided to replace the new cartridge with the old one I had. It printed so I finally narrowed the problem to the new cartridge. After vigorously shaking the cartridge and splashing ink all over the place in finally worked. I suspect it was a very old cartridge that started drying up.

Not thinking that these were not the cartridges for my computer since it came up to order them but they were not for my new computer so now I have $50 plus dollars in cartridges that I can't use and I am out of black inc so I can't use my printer until I go to Wal Mart and purchase a cartridge.

I have always thought any machinery whether an automobile or computer should be treated to the best products and I remember the commercial where the mechanic said, "pay me now, or pay me later." This seems to work for everything. I will continue to use HP inks and they ship to me free and usually come in two or three days, mostly two.

I'm afraid to buy another cartridge incase it's the print head. Either way, hp ink are usually pretty good and I like them.

The price was utterly ridiculous but I had a project due and spent the extra $100 for replacements. There was no difference in the quality and probably the quantity of pages. Save yourself lots of cash and buy the Generics. Or buy another brand of printer that has refillable cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poorly listed on website -- mis-represented We received the HP 906XL recently -- we mistakenly clicked on it to order as it was embedded in the middle of all the 902XL cartridges, the size we actually needed. Poor locating, HP! On the store website, the HP 906XL is listed as a substitute for the HP 902XL in HP Officejet printers, when it actually fits in only four of the Officejet models, AND not the model we have. While the customer service group has fairly efficiently dealt with our problem, it shouldn't have occurred at all -- the HP 906XL should not come up when asking for HP 902XL, but should be in a separate listing in the on-line catalog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forced to Buy HP Cartridges HP auto-updates for printer firmware prohibited our continued use of third party, affordable cartridges. We were forced to purchase HP cartridges for a Officejet 6000 series printer to use the device. I will say this. I will not be purchasing anymore HP printers until HP updates their current firmware and allows customers to shop for reasonably priced cartridges. Their Smartink program is a step in the right direction but is still expensive and locks the user in to a proscribed number of copies per month per printer. There are other printer alternatives out there and we plan to pursue them

It was out stock, but while searching, came across this other option for our printer - the HP 906XL High Yield Black Ink Cartridge. The "902XL" prints ~825 pages; the "906XL" printer ~1,500 pages. We had not known about the "906XL" and are very pleased with it!! We will definitely order this one again.

The HP printer/copier/scanner I bought works fine but the problem is that I HAVE to always buy HP brand ink!!!! I work from home and my boss orders ink for me but will not buy the HP brand, always orders the generic due to being cheaper of course. They need work in my printer. And the ink goes to waste and I have to always buy HP ink . I can’t always afford it either! I called HP to see if there was a setting I could change In order for me to use generic brand and they told me NO. Not happy about this at all.

The ink I just bought from HP cost $125. I must say the system works very well. However, this is nuts!!! There is really something wrong with this picture. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink Bombs When I opened this cartridge to install into my printer it immediately began flowing like a fountain all over me, the printer, the floor and would not stop oozing. Not wishing to wear all this black ink I hurried and installed it in the printer hoping the flow would stop. I believe it stopped when it all ran out as it seems to be in the bottom of the printer and there is no black whenever I print now. What a mess! I'm very unhappy and disappointed in the customer service and the ink cartridge because they are awfully expensive to wear. I wanted ink on paper on my floor and clothes.

I am not that happy with the amount of ink required to keep this printer functional. I don't print all that much, as I have used less than 1 300 sheet package of paper since I bought this printer and I am on my third set of ink cartridges (including the cartridges that came with the printer). The second set were high yield HP cartridges that I purchased from a local Walmart, Since most of my printing was black not color, I should not have run out of ink twice already.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Customer Service Great but the 906XL High Yield... Customer Service is always great. And I have never had a problem with an ink cartridge from HP before. But I ordered the HP 906XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge and I can't give it a good review. Customer Service has already replaced one. And I have the same problem with another cartridge and need to waste precious time and go thru the whole customer service process again. They just stop working about 1/2 way through. I was really hoping these would keep changing cartridges as quick but Geez Louise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP 906XL Ink Cartridge Ever since purchasing a HP Pavilion All-In-One computer, and their HP Officejet Pro 6978 Printer, I have used HP's 902XL Black Original Ink Cartridge. It provided for nearly 800 copies, which was highly efficient. Then, when replacing the ink cartridge, I found that HP was offering their 906XL High Yield cartridge, designed to print upwards of 1,500 copies. The 906XL has proven to be an excellent and reliable product, in addition to lowering the cost per copy, all the while printing uniform pages. I also liked the convenience of ordering a replacement cartridge on-line, directly from HP, knowing their ink cartridge's contain a quality ink product. Colorado Bob

I type for court reporters from home and even though I do not have to print out the transcripts, I still use quite a few HP printer ink cartridges on a yearly basis. I have 1 printer I don't use very often, and the ink does not dry up in between use. However, I always feel like there is a lot more ink left in the cartridge when it is giving me the warning that I have to replace it. Delivery was super fast, and ordering was easy. HP has made it very easy to look up the printers I have.

When the first cartridge ran out, I thought I would be 'frugal' and purchase an off-brand to save costs- which was a big mistake. So I am back to the TRUE HP 906XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge and I will never purchase anything different. It's far superior to everything else out there. I cannot recommend it highly enough! Save yourself the trouble folks, forget the knock-offs and cheaper versions, go with the Original and you'll save yourself the time and hassle of dealing with the others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Frustrating I have a OfficeJet all in one and had been using off brand ink without issue. Suddenly we started getting incompatible ink errors and couldn't use our printer. So I decided to buy HP cartridges directly from HP. Thinking if it went well we would sign up for their on demand program. It didn't go well. We bought a magenta and a black xl cartridge. The printer tells us the black is not compatible. When I replace just the black with an old empty cart, it says the magenta is not compatible. Getting support and starting a return took 2+ hours before I gave up. I have a support case number. So I have that going for me. The irony is to return the cartridges the instructions say to print the shipping label... I guess I'll have to buy another printer that is less picky about the ink I choose to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quit working I bought the high yield because I thought it was a good deal. I replaced the black and colored cartridges and things were fine for a couple days. I printed one day with no issue and the next day, and the pages were blank. I tested the colored cartridges and they all worked. I was able to get another cartridge and when I changed out the black, it worked again. Not sure what was wrong with the cartridge, but am a bit disappointed. I tried to find a contact number to call HP, but couldn't find one that would get me to someone I could talk to. The chat choices didn't apply. I would try to buy again, but hope I don't get the same results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I knew B4 I have been purchasing 902xl ink cartridges ($43.00 for 875 pages, or $0.49/pg) without knowing that there was a 906xl that was compatible with my HP 6978 printer. I like the option of being able to purchase an ink cartridge that offers 1,500 pages of printing for less than $0.04/pg. I would love it if there was a 906xl in color, or just increase the yield (875-1500) for the 902xl.
