Rated 5 out of 5 byKrister from Two cables needed :(I love the Zbook that I have it's a five star computer but this docking station is really bad. You need two cables. One for connecting the computer with the docking station and thats great but then you also need to have the power cable to the laptop in. This was my worst buy ever :(

Rated 5 out of 5 byVaneGy from Miss old docking methodIt is what it is but I miss the old docking type of station where you just have the laptop sit on a docking station. This type of docking station you'll have to connect the power cord to your laptop and the USB 3.0 cable. Meaning there is a power adapter for the docking station and you'll need a power adapter for the laptop as well. The old method you can just dock it and you're done with one power adapter. Not sure why they are designing it this way now?? Cost maybe??

However, actually trying to use it with a HP PowerBook 470 G3 with a SSD results in a "missing operating system" boot error every time this device is actually connected to the laptop, completely defeating the purpose of a port replicator. The HP support site says: "This product is no longer serviced by HP. You may search for possible solutions on this support website." The only other support option on the HP support site is for a "No Power Or Boot Failure" that is completely irrelevant to this device and the issue experienced. This device is a waste of money.

I am running two screens, a keyboard, mouse and Gigabit Ethernet through port replicator. I plug a third screen in the HDMI on the laptop, I run the laptop closed at my desk. It lets me unplug 3 cables to take my laptop with me. As my laptop only has a 100MB it gives me Gig speeds. It also lets me run 3 large screens when at my desk.Sometimes when I undock or dock while the laptop is running it can get confused. Some programs end up showing up off screen, some screens do not come back right, etc. I then realized that has nothing to do with the dock, and is a Windows issue that I have been fighting since my first dock and Windows 95 so I did not deduct stars for that.Yes, you need to plug the power into the laptop. This is a USB3 replicator and USB3 does not support powering a laptop over that port. It is not a design flaw with this device but a limitation of USB3.This device has storage inside it to hold the drivers, imagine a USB memory stick built in. This makes setup easier. If your laptop won't boot with this device plugged in, change your laptop settings to not use it as boot device.
