Goal Zero Sherpa 50 - external battery pack - NMC - 5200 mAh is rated 4.30 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from versatile ! What really nice about this product is that it's really small and portable. I did actually buy the Sherpa 50 kit, which includes the nomad 13, the Sherpa 50, and the nomad 13. It looks cool too! Also, one thing that I didn't know I even wanted is the amount of input power this thing can recive, meaning since the Sherpa receives DC power its actually capable of receiving higher speeds of charge compared to some other powerbanks. Like ones based off of USB , they usually receive a limit of 5volts , 4 watts. The Sherpa 50 for example, takes in 32 watts peak this is awesome when using solar, because the flow of the current is much larger and therefore causing it to recharge faster than say I would my cell phone because that's also limited to say 5-7 watts. That's wat makes using the Sherpa 50 awesome, you can take much more advantage with one of the banks to collect more power, faster. I still haven't had a chance to use the inverter on it, I am honestly a little afraid to because its a modified sine wave, I'm not too sure if it'll damages my batteries. Overall its an awesome product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent portable power I own the Sherpa 50 for charging my phone or lighting up my campsite. When hooked up to a couple Goal Zero led lanterns I can cook dinner after the sun sets. I also have a Yeti 1250 and 3 Boulder 30 solar panels. All of them are great products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hammock Camper I have had the new Sherpa 50 since it was released. I am big into camping but enjoy taking my electronics with me. My Sherpa 50 powers my tablet, mifi card, usb light, fan, and phone out in the woods. Durning the day I charge it and use it all night. This is a great product and I would highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dont count on it I bought the Serpa 50 and Nomad 13 panel a couple of years ago for an upcoming trip, that was canceled. I also bought 3 of the lantern lights to work with it. This went unused for a year or so and I took it out and plugged in to charge. It wouldn't hold a charge, even thought the indicator read 80% or full. Now it wont even power the lights with it plugged into house current. A fair amount of money spent, with absolutely nothing to show for it. Since all the plugs are proprietary, I can't even use the lights with another power source.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Sherpa 5 Rocks! I really like using the Sherpa 50 to power my signal processors for my guitar at the live music venues I participate in - it lets me setup quickly and frees me from dependence on what a venue may or may not provide - the sound board techs appreciate it, too! I use it this way with the inverter - I could/would use a second AC outlet on the inverter with these low power devices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, yet just as powerful Let me first start by saying that the newest iteration of the Sherpa50 is superior in almost all respects to the old Sherpa 50. Be that the smaller form factor, the use of Li-ion over Li-Po, and the products adaptability to your everyday life. The new Sherpa50 has almost everything. To make this review a little more readable to the masses, I'll start out with my impressions of this device, and the results of months of stress testing I imparted on this battery pack. And once the basics are out of the way, I'll lay down some of the technical information which people like me will find important. Based on how I rated this product, I'm sure you can guess I'm quite happy with the Sherpa50's performance and form factor. Having extensively used the older (and much larger) brother to the new Sherpa50, the newest version leaves my school bag, and backpack lighter, and with more space. Yes, the new Sherpa50 is half the weight, and takes up only 48% of the volume of the older version. This may not be important for everyone, but I don't have to tell those who backpack, or have to haul things on their person (bag, purse, pocket, whatever) how important a pound+ savings can be. Normally such an accomplishment comes at a cost, but not this time. So, what are some of the changes made? The biggest would be the changeover to laptop cells (6x 18650's, vs. 3 large LiPo's), and a much more compact circuit design. But GoalZero didn't just stop by making the product smaller; they added a beefier USB port (1.5A vs 0.5A, and yes, this thing charges iPads, and Smartphone's with ease), a cleaver attachable inverter (sold separately, though worth picking up), the addition of a laptop port (you can't use the laptop and 12v port simultaneously), and an LED light. The new Sherpa50 now comes with a regulated 12v port to keep some of your electronics happier. And I found total output to be fairly consistent with varying loads. But I did notice that the new design is a little less efficient when charging under solar power (requires more solar energy to acquire the same state of charge). There are also more apparent safeties built into this model. For the most part, these are good, because they not only protect you from a failure, but also extend the life of the device by limiting the amount of damage you can do to the cells. But under heavy loads, especially while charging from solar, I could trigger the thermal safety cut-off, completely disconnecting any external charge coming in. The older version of the Sherpa50 was less temperate on this issue, but on the same note, the older version appears to be degrading faster when it comes to maintaining maximum capacity. So, how has the new battery worked for me? Well, its main use has been powering my laptop (through the use of the attachable inverter) on an almost daily basis. In many instances I've used the new Sherpa50, with a few Nomad13's, to keep my laptop powered throughout the day without a plug in sight. Using the Sherpa50 to power your iPad (or other tablet) basically equates to 10-20hrs of use (depending on model) before even touching your internal battery. And if keeping your phone charged for days away from the city is important, well, look no further. So, here comes the technical stuff. First, I'd like to talk about the advertised capacity. Under a 1C discharge, initial capacity showed 51wh (±1.8wh), which is slightly above those quoted by the company (the original Sherpa50 only gave 43wh under similar testing). And with close to 60-70 discharge cycles now on this pack, it still shows a capacity of 47wh. Though data on the specific LG cells used by GoalZero are unavailable, similar models show an expected drop-off of 80% after 300 cycles, putting my results closely in line of a linear model. Cells come in a standard series parallel (3-3.7v series, 2 sets in parallel) configuration, using quality cells. Because the cells are charged to about 90% of their total capacity, there will be some degradation over the long haul (the ideal standard is to only use 65% of total capacity for longest life). But having designed/built a battery pack under similar parameters as GoalZero for the solar car of our University, we found longevity of the cells to be only a minor issue. To wrap up this review, the new Sherpa50 follows in the footsteps of its older brother. But the newest offering gives you more features in a lighter, smaller form factor, making this battery perfect for almost everything. Capacity in my testing has also increased by 18%, while battery safeties are maintaining that capacity longer. I really liked the old Sherpa50, but this new one I just love, that's about all I can say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! Bought this and the Nomad 13's to charge my DSLR batteries while on a caribou hunt.......no other sources of power. Worked perfectly with my battery charger plugged into the 12v outlet. Panels will charge the Sherpa each day while we hunt. Highly recommend this product. Testing is done and the real deal hunt is in less than a month!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY pleased with duration w Inverter I love this product for phones, ipads, etc., but had occasion to need a power source for a critical business presentation. The task was to support a 27" flat screen monitor throughout a 2 hour presentation. I was a bit worried and arranged to borrow another Sherpa 50 for when I thought I'd need it. The first Sherpa 50 performed flawlessly and I finished my 2 hours before it gave a hint of giving up. The crowd never saw a hiccup - ACES!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good upgrade from previous model I use this to take camping and recharge electronic devices, especially a cell phone. Because it can do several charges for a cell phone, I think it would be very useful to have two USB ports instead of one to make it more practical for a small group of friends to use. I'm not a solitary hiker. The inverter for this power pack is modified sine wave. This is written in the specifications, but should perhaps be better explained in the product description. This can prevent a notice user from assuming that just because it has an AC outlet it can power any household appliance. You must buy a much heavier lead-acid battery based power pack to get pure sine wave and the higher wattage capabilities required for most household items. The Sherpa 50 powered my 24" LCD monitor for 26 minutes before before shutting itself off to avoid overheating. The battery indicator showed 40% power remaining at that point. The amount of continuous power that my LCD screen requires is obviously beyond the abilities of the Sherpa 50. It powered an electric fan for about an hour before running out of juice. The fan says 75W on its rear sticker, but I assume that is for the "high" setting. I was using the lowest setting so I don't know what the actual wattage consumption was. One more thing: Find a way to shield the Sherpa 50 from the sun while it's charging. Just because the solar panels are happy to soak up the sun's ray don't assume the same for the power pack itself. If I could go back and buy this product again, I would, but I'd likely go for a Nomad 27M panel rather than the Nomad 13 that's included in the kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherpa 50 & Power Pack 10 I use the Sherpa 50 all the time. I use it in the city when I have to be away from outlets, camping, fishing, even on the bus. I use the power pack 10 in the same way, biking around the city, taking it to baseball games, ect. The only con I have about the power pack 10 is it charges at 1 amp, but my phone can only handle .5 amp while charging so I can't use it for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, long-lasting! I have been using the Sherpa 50 (two of them) to charge our iDevices at home and on the go here in Zimbabwe. I'm super impressed with the length of the charge and how lightweight the unit is. The lit USB port makes it easy to plug in devices in the dark, and built-in LED torch is useful when one just can't find ones headlamp!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherpa 50 + Mac Book Pro 13"(without the inverter) This is an amazing product. Well finished, robust and versatile. I even connected my Mac Book Pro 13" Retina directly to the 19V output by customising my original Mac's charger. The Sherpa 50 has enough juice to fill the battery from 0% to 75% which represents about 5 hours of fully operating the Mac Book. More than enough for me, since on a fully sunny day here I can charge my Sherpa around 1.5 times/day equalling 7-8 hours of using my Mac daily relying only on sun. For those interested here are some photos of my custom 19V to MagSafe 2 cable. As far as my electrical skills go, this should be perfectly safe both for the Mac and the Sherpa. If you want to try this setup at home, you only need to find the right plugs and then just cut the Mac's charger cable and mold it to the plugs, nothing else. If performed correctly, you can still roll the cable around the charger. The MagSafe's orange/green light will work as usual and your Mac won't have a clue that something changed since the charger's ID is actually on the MagSafe plug, not on the charger itself. Unfortunately, Apple has a patent on the MagSafe so nobody will ever sell this to you. Only you can make it and you should never tell Apple about it, nor hold me responsible if any damage should occur ;) I'm planning to camp and work for the following 2 months and this product just made it possible!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Honest Portable Battery Pack The design is quite simple: Plug it in to solar or wall power, and you have an honest 50 Wh at your disposal, once charged. The build quality is very good, but there is always room for improvement. I wish that were slightly more rugged for serious outdoor use. Also, it really needs to be at least water-resistant. Other than that, it is a great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power When You Need It I use the Sherpa 50 for many uses. When shooting photos at location events the power is not necessarily where you need it. The Sherpa 50 allows me to power my MacBook Pro without missing a beat. On smaller assignments I often times use it to keep my phone charged and charge up any camera batterys that need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, no nonsense I bought this about a month ago. So far it seems to work well. My only complaint is it doesn't natively support my laptop (Lenovo Yoga), and I'm not sure there is really an adapter for that. I would have to get an Inverter, but GZ has been out of stock for inverters for some time now... So on that side, it doesn't work for me. But, through the USB charging side- it works well. It's simple, and does what it says. It will take about 18% or so to charge an iphone 5s to full and does it at same speed as in the wall. It also charges up my Sony A7 through the usb charger relatively fast, and uses about 20%-25% charge to do that. I'll be putting it through its paces on a trip to the east. If you are thinking about purchasing this versus the Sherpa 100, I think this is a better value from the perspective of I can pick up 2 of these for the price of one Sherpa 100, and basically charge 2 devices at the same time, or give one to a friend (or my wife) on the trip so she can keep her devices charged as well. A Sherpa 100 is probably better if it's just me, but I always go in groups so multiples for redundancy and sharing is always a better value. Though really... GZ- please keep your inventory of Inverters up!!!! it's very frustrating to not be able to get something that would make the device universal and more useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherpa 50 powers all my portable devices I've used this device to charge my Apple products, including: iPhone, iPad, macbook air, and macbook pro (through the inverter). As many of you Apple product owners know, Apple has very stringent power requirements - and I often find non-Apple charging devices to be incompatible despite meeting the specs on paper. Not in this case, the Sherap 50 powers them all without issue. When outdoors or camping, its a nice power source to charge my sat phone, SLR camera batteries, and rechargeable batteries for headlamps and any other small electronic device needs, in addition to a Dell laptop (with the laptop charging kit). Additionally, I also use the Light-a-life LED light in my tent, and it gives me plenty of even diffuse light to get stuff done in the dark without drawing a ton of power (so I can keep all my other power hungry devices charged). In the end, its small enough to throw in your pack for everyday use, the internal battery is high quality and power dense for its weight, and I find myself bringing it along to "non-adventureous" places because it gives me the freedom away from plugs and outlets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another product to be proud of Got this most awsome powerpack today with the inverter and Nomad13. This device has all power ports available(5V, 12V, 110V) and it includes a direct 19V power port to more efficently charge a laptop. As with each GZ product I purchase, I run it thru real world tests on the stuff I use. I am testing running 3- LAL lights at the moment, 80% power remaining after 1hr. Will pack this up in the large mesh pocket on the new Nomad13 solar panel, and off to Puta Cana to have the sun recharge Sherpa and me... I love this untethered lifestyle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great charger Got the Sherpa 50 for an Asia business trip. The Sherpa 50 has given me some great piece of mind. I wasn't worried about not having enough juice for my laptop and cell phone. My cell is my life line and I've been in those situations where every drop of power counts. So cool not to have that anxiety. It also charged my laptop and phone really quickly. I don't know how they do this, but it seemed to just discharge the batteries and charge the phone and laptop really fast. I used the direct laptop port with my Lenovo and it worked like a charm. Got a few people asking about it too. I'm looking forward to taking it out backpacking to power up my phone, camera and laptop. Should be great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Man Portable power pack.... I am the Team Leader for the Raven Ridge Missile Silo Tactical Team. I purchased the Sherpa 50 to try out as a man portable power pack that could power Toughbook Laptops, recharge flashlights, digital encrypted radios and other items on the fly in the field. I also purchased the Nomad 13 folding solar pack. These small units are impressive to say the least. As long as you understand the capable use of the unit, you will be able to power certain things for quite a while. That being said, I would like to see a few changes to the unit which I will touch on in a bit. We set the units up to be wearable on either a belt hook or in our tactical vests. Using just the Sherpa without the AC inverter, we are able to run our Panasonic Toughbooks for hours on one charge. BUT there is a caveat to this.. IF your battery is not charged on the laptop fully, it will charge from the Sherpa thus draining its power. Thus you should make sure your laptop is fully charged BEFORE plugging into a sherpa to get the longest field time out of the pack. Additionally, if you use the AC inverter, power length of time drops dramatically so we also recommend NOT using the laptop AC power supply. Pull power directly from the Sherpa using the laptop adapter plugs accessory. Using the foldable solar pack does help keep it running even longer in the field and pretty much indefinitely if you are not moving. If you are not using a laptop in the field as we are, the Sherpa will power or charge flashlights, phones and more quite well and again if you carry the foldable solar array, you can pretty much maintain constant power all the time. The only CONS I can think of are that I wish it could keep its high wattage output going longer and the price. This unit is costly for such a small power pack.. More reasonable, in my opinion, were if these units came in around $129-$139 range.. I would buy a whole lot more if that were the case... but hey, not my company so not my decision! :-) Anyhow, I thoroughly recommend this product and look forward to continued use for a long time to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I highly recommend this product! I travel a lot. I have found myself limited to wall outlets while waiting to catch flights at crowded airports. I find having this light weight product on hand is extremely beneficial. I no longer worry about my cell phone or laptops battery life. The Sherpa 50 Power Pack holds a charge for a good period of time. I no longer stress over where to find an available outlet at airports or when using other forms of public transportation. The Sherpa 50 Power Pack has proven itself to keep all of my electronics charged up while on the go. Thank you GoalZero for this amazing product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not good enough. Charges an iphone 5, and drops down to 20%, then I recharge for hours up to 100%, recharge the same iphone and power drops down to 80%, then I plug in my ipad to charge it, and it drops down to 10%. Its a very inconsistant battery, and the charge times are across the board. I've seen it charge my phone three or four times, and then some days I only get one charge out of it. I've plugged in my laptop for about 2 minutes then dies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works perfectly Found myself at the florida earthskills gathering my camper and truck have solar and we had alot of people wanting to charge there phones and the kitchen needed lights to cook with and a square dance that needed lighting. In comparison between the 4 different solar systems the goal zero equipment worked better than all the rest. We had the nomad 7 and the 27 working from sun up to sundown they were put together with the sherpa 50 and the guid 10 plus, if i would of had better cables and more usb ports i am sure we could of kept up with everyone. Thank you goal zero, BTW we charged so many devices that weekend that our own phones were dead but throwing the nomad 7 on the dash of the truck took care of that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One year ownership review So, it's been just over a year since I bought my Sherpa 50 from Cal's Sporting Armory online. My Sherpa 50 has performed well over all for the first year, but now the built-in LED light is really dim and not useful. And the switch for the 12V/Laptop outputs doesn't function properly anymore, when switched to the OFF position either the 12V or Laptop light illuminates so basically the switch has gone bad. With that stated I'd recommend buying this product however I'd highly recommend buying a retailers 1 or 2 year extended warranty/replacement plan because you're out of luck after the Goal Zero one year warranty expires.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than goat curds It's not often that I find myself mapping 1300 year old villages, but when I do, Goal Zero, coffee, and goat cheese curds powers my day. Pictured here is the Sherpa 50 battery with the Nomad 27 panel linked to a Topcon total station. In this section I will focus on the Sherpa 50 battery. For a little bit of context, I conduct archaeological research in remote regions of Mongolia. We have an extremely large power budget, fueling numerous computers, GPS units, iPads, phones, cameras, and various other sorts of equipment for a large group (up to 20 people). Equipment, in order of importance, is: 1) computers; 2) iPads; 3) GPS units. To meet our power requirements, we also use the now discontinued Sherpa 120, the Extreme 350 battery, and a Honda generator for rainy days. Of the three solar batteries, I think the Sherpa 50 is the most useful. I say this because of its light weight, quick recharge time, and number of smaller electrical items that can be recharged from one power cycle of the battery. Because the computers are the most important item for our daily operation we mainly reserve the Extreme 350 and Sherpa 120 for powering them (these are also great batteries and we still sneak in a GPS unit or two on the power strip running off the 350), as such these batteries are stuck at base camp constantly cycling through various states of charge. The Sherpa 50 fills in nicely because it can quickly power an item, be taken into the field where it can be recharged in a morning or afternoon and then either provide an important 'top-off' charge that allows us to finish a day of work, or be taken back to camp to power a second item that night. Honest to goodness, a good product – okay, maybe not as good as goat cheese curds but at least it leaves your breath a whole heck of a lot fresher.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null I got this product for Christmas I love it charged my phone my brother's phone and my dads phone and it was stil at 80% battry capacity at witch point I pluged it into a bolder 30 and it was charged to 100% in 1-2 hours. I took it on a ski trip and brought a nomad 7. it kept my phone charged on the Mountain but it was tricky to keep it at a functining temperature (30 degrees or higher). At the lodge I put my nomad in a window where it had direct sun light in 30 minits I got about 10% charge when I charged a laptop it drained the power pack fast in about 50 minutes to an hour it was at 60% and my laptop got about a 25-30% boost. I have no complaints and it was a grate gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherpa Failed Less Than 18-months After Purchase I have purchased multiple Goal Zero products (Yeti 400, 4 Boulder 50s) and this Sherpa 50 in late 2015 / early 2016. I use the Yeti and Boulders on a regular basis for tailgating, camping, etc. These two products work phenomenally and I've never had an issue. However, I've had the Sherpa 50 with inverter since early 2016 and since then the unit has been nothing but problems. Initially I purchased the item to give an additional charge to my MacBook Air and iPhone when I was off the grid. The first time I used it, it only charged the MacBook Air about 1/2 way and I got about 1-2 charges off the unit. Needless to say I was disappointed in the underperforming charge of this product. I would make sure that I properly charged the unit and used the inverter properly. Still, I could not get more of a charge. This past August 2017, I went to use the unit and there was no charge in the unit. After trying to re-charge the unit (which I accomplished two-weeks prior with a full charge), the unit would not hold a charge. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything I ask of it. I use this product to charge and keep my camera batteries going. I also use it for extra power on my laptop. It does both GREAT! I recommend this product for anyone who lives a portable life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DME - CPAP Experience I purchased the Sherpa 50 for its compact size and ability to add an inverter right to the pack it's self, no need to carry 2 separate items. While camping our Generator went down and so did the only 12v inverter we had. Suffering from Sleep Apnea is life or death, well I remembered I had our Sherpa 50 in the bag, it gave me @ 4 hours of run time, not quite a full night sleep but better than nothing. Gave it a full charge the next day and only got about 3 the next night worked well, but seemed to need just a bit more. Really like the USB / and flash light / wish the LED had a bit harder switch, got bumped and came on several times. Needs a switch like the one on the inverter / flat and a bit harder to switch on..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Unit Nice unit. Charges pretty fast with wall charger and decent with the Nomad 27. USB charges an iPhone 5 and iPad 3 just fine. Slightly heavier and larger than I thought, but a nice device. It will be going most places with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Just got back from the Himalayas and used the Sherpa 50 with a Nomad 20 plus the inverter to charge not only my equipment but also my fellow trekkers and members of the trekking company. This system was easy to use and worked well. Looking forward to using it again on my next adventure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherpa 50 Saved The Day Very useful and handy to have in many situations. Travel, around the house, backpacking, motorcycle camping. My truck broke down in western Kansas just as a blizzard was coming through. The freeway was closed up ahead and I had no way to get to a hotel on my own. My phone was just about dead so I plugged into the Sherpa 50 and was able to alert my family as well as contact the local Sheriff's office for a ride to a hotel 30 miles down the road. At worst my life was in danger, at best it would have been a truly awful night in below freezing temperatures inside my truck. Goal Zero products have come in handy plenty of times, but this time I was truly grateful to have the Sherpa 50 along for the ride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy, great size for phone and tablet I frequently ride my bike in remote locations and want to have a means to charge my phone, tablet computer, bike computer, etc. This fits the bill. I usually fill it up with juice from the AC outlet, but it's nice to be able to top it off with the panel. One caveat: the output may not be quite enough to charge larger, power-hungry laptops (like the ThinkPad W series).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great portability and Battery Life I have carried this around for weeks and it saves my phone everytime. Wish it would power my ipad, (seems to only sustain the power level and never charges the ipad).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love Sherpa 50!!!! I use this guy at camping and backpacking. Very handy to use for many purposes for my tablet, camera, lighting, and cell. I couldn't live without it. Sherpa 100 is nice, but I don't need that much watts per night. 50 watts is plenty for me for what I use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crucial Equipement I have used the sherpa 50 pretty much everyday for over a year...it has powered up evrything from phones, tablets, speakers, laterns, laptops, cameras, etc...basically everything I could throw at it..It even powered a air pump and pumped up my air matress on my camping trips. I also use it to power my LAL in my tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sherpa 50 is my love! Sherpa 50 is plenty for what you need for backpacking and car camping. Mostly, I use for lantern, cell phone, tablet, and camera. This thing is a beat when it comes to juicing to electronics. Amazing how you can plug two things at once and it keeps juicing the electronics quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right for on the go Great size to throw in pack and go. Depending on laptop will not fully charge laptop. Best for smaller handheld devices. Do not depend on the Sherpa 50 to charge a laptop completely. It will only get you by to get to more a more reliable power-source. It does work well with a laptop but be aware of battery size. When charging with Nomad 13, for fastest charge you will need direct sunlight. Panel does not like cloudy are overcast days. When your working with a cellphone, tablet, notebook, and a camera in situations where size and weight is an issue (working out of a backpack) the Sherpa 50 with a Nomad 13 should keep you on task for several days more if you didn't have solar charged power source when there is no other readily available power sources.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short life Sherpa 50 works well in many ways. The huge disadvantage is the swift drop in life/capacity. First it dropped down to charging up to 80%, this spring 2017. After the summer only 40%. I think it ought be more robust in this sense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Failed due to moisture in tent after 2 expedition I paired this unit with the 20 watt panel at base camp and it worked like a champ on a successfull K2 expedition (very rugged approach and variable weather). I just completed a successful Annapurna expedition and it died half way through. I always keep the Sherpa 50 out of the weather in my vestibule but condensation in the tent triggered one of the temperature sensors and shut it down. It has not recovered. I know this isn't water proof. I'm an electrical engineer and not affraid to take it apart but the 2nd temp sensor is elusive without a hardware diagram. It has been a great system and very rugged but I'm sad to lose something this expensive on it's second expedition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved me at the National Scout Jamboree! Bought this last summer for and it was a lifesaver at the National Scout Jamboree. Power wasn't widely available but I needed to be in constant contact via my cell. There was plenty of sun and the Sherpa and the solar panel kept me juiced up. Taking it backpacking this summer!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Sherpa 50 AMAZING!!! Goal Zero has out done themselves with this product. I don't know how they managed to put so much juice into such a small package. Not only can it recharge laptops and tablets it also includes a small led light and 12V outlet to power up other items. Such versatility is great going out on trips and in such a small package. I am so excited about its big brother the New SHERPA 100 as well!!!!
