No cloud access, expensive, but reliable
What is our primary use case?
I am using ExtremeWireless for network access in my organization.
What is most valuable?
ExtremeWireless has good performance.
What needs improvement?
The ExtremeWireless WiNG Access Point on-premise is not as good as the cloud and many of my customers are switching. It is easier for my clients to manage everything from the cloud. I currently use a model of the controller that does not support any cloud functionality.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using ExtremeWireless for approximately three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
ExtremeWireless is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have approximately 30 people using this solution.
How are customer service and support?
The technical from ExtremeWireless has been good.

Wi-Fi solution with excellent integration
What is our primary use case?
My primary use of ExtremeWireless is as a wi-fi solution.
What is most valuable?
The most useful feature is how the product integrates with the Microsoft directory in the cloud. It allows users to have just one username/password in the Microsoft cloud directors and use it to enter the wi-fi network.
What needs improvement?
The main area for improvement is the company's local visibility. It's not well-known in Portugal, making it harder to sell since customers tend to prefer solutions that they are familiar with and have strong support in their country.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We used a specialized team to implement the product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Extreme isn't the most expensive, but it's not a low-cost solution, and because there are no big volumes, you don't receive significant discounts, making the final price higher. I would rate their price as three out of five.
What other advice do I have?

The cloud controller is informative, easy to use, and provides excellent visibility into my network.
What is our primary use case?
I primarily deploy ExtremeWireless for hospitality customers like the hotel group Coral Sea Hotels. I focus on hospitality but also have some banking and retail customers. We have six hotels, two banks, and three retail customers. We're using Extreme's universal APs: AP305C, AP410C, and AP460C. We plan to expand our usage, but there are supply chain issues, so the delivery is taking time.
What is most valuable?
I like Cloud IQ, ExtremeWireless' cloud controller and analytics platform. It's full of information, easy to use, and provides excellent visibility into my network.
What needs improvement?
The onsite controllers are not as good as the cloud controller. I would also like ExtremeWireless to add web filtering on the access point. This feature is available from other vendors but not ExtremeWireless.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using ExtremeWireless for two years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate ExtremeWireless nine out of 10 for stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate ExtremeWireless seven out of 10 for scalability. The switches are smooth and scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I rate ExtremeWireless support seven out of 10. ExtremeWirelesstechnical support has been highly responsive, but the website is sometimes misleading, and the documentation is subpar.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use Extreme and Ruckus Wireless. Ruckus has a bigger range and the on-premise configuration is much easier, but Extreme's cloud configuration is much more advanced than Ruckus Wireless Cloud.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up ExtremeWireless is straightforward, especially for the cloud. You just plug in the AP number and start the configuration. I rate ExtremeWireless eight out of 10 for ease of setup. The deployment time depends on the size of the project. Deploying a few APs takes about an hour at most. If it's a big hotel, it might take some days.
Deploying an AP involves connecting to the internet and the cloud, creating an account, activating the license, and unplugging the AP. We have a team of six people doing the installations. After deployment, it requires some regular maintenance, including updates, security patches, failure protection tests, etc.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate ExtremeWireless eight out of 10 for affordability. Extreme has a broad selection of products at different price points. Overall, Ruckus is much more cost-effective than Extreme, but Extreme offers more products than Ruckus, so it's not fair to compare them on price because it's different flavors. It depends on the project.
What other advice do I have?
I rate ExtremeWireless nine out of 10. We only go with the universal APs. I wouldn't recommend any other APs or switches from Extreme because they are quickly phasing other models out and transitioning all their technologies to Universal APs.

Simple to implement, provides seamless connectivity, and is reliable
What is our primary use case?
We are using the product for learning and research purposes, and for academics.
We can connect with the hotspot through this, however, due to the fact that we're not moving outside of the buildings, it also provides connectivity on any place on our campus. If you are there inside the rooms or classes, you will get connectivity. We upload it outside of classrooms also. You can learn and study anywhere. You do not have to just be in the classroom or labs.
What is most valuable?
It provides seamless connectivity if you move around. There is not a need to reconnect with the AP, again and again, where you have to provide the passwords. Once you log in, you can move anywhere without any disconnectivity. That is the best feature.
The initial setup is straightforward.
What needs improvement?
There aren't any areas that need improvement.
The cost is a little high.
It's not as complete as a few other options on the market.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for about one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a pretty stable product. I don't recall dealing with bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the product is good. It's not a problem if you need to expand. We just add new devices and take on new licenses.
We have about 2500 people currently using the product.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used something else that wasn't really that similar. We deployed the different access points at different positions at different locations. That was not cloud-based.
How was the initial setup?
The solution was pretty simple to set up. It didn't take too long.
We have not observed any kind of maintenance since last year. Maybe in the future, that may be required.
What about the implementation team?
We had a third-party deploy the solution for us.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'd rate the licensing a three out of five. There are a few additional fees.
What other advice do I have?
We use both the cloud and the on-premises devices.
My advice is that new users should take two solutions. They should have a local NMS kind of thing that should be there and not generally only be based on the cloud. Every device that we have should be able to push on the network management software. It should be compatible with other devices also.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. It's not complete. It should be competitive with other devices also, not only from XP. The cost of this product is also somewhat on the higher side as compared to the other devices.

An easy to deploy solution that can scale and expand
What is our primary use case?
We are a training company and supply wireless at venues for our customers and staff. It is used during meetings, trainings, and events.
How has it helped my organization?
I think it's a good solution, it can scale and expand.
What is most valuable?
It's cloud-based and very easy to deploy. Just input serial numbers of the AP and you can easily connect to the PoE switch. You can configure many SID policies in the central method and deploy automatically to the AP.
What needs improvement?
They should add more security.

We have been using this solution for more than three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is great actually, I'd rate it an eight.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is very easy and good.

I used Aruba and Huawei Wireless but not on the same scale as our current needs.

It doesn't take long. You just configure on the cloud and add a new AP with serial number when you install. It is not long at all, maybe a half day or one day.
What about the implementation team?
We did it ourselves, it was not complicated at all.
What was our ROI?
It's not as expensive as some and is scalable to our needs.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is a subscription model, so it is maybe a bit pricey. Normally we have 200-300 users but sometimes up to 1,000. Actually, I think it's good. In wireless, Cisco and Oracle are expensive tools.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We compare different solutions, the advantages and disadvantages. Maybe we can use Cisco Meraki or Cisco Wireless. We evaluate them because we know the solutions, the brands. We look at security, performance and scalability. The most important thing we look at is cost. Aruba is a no go for us.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Mediocre technical support and the initial setup could be easier, but the cloud-managed aspect is good
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use these wireless access points in our corporate warehouses.
We've got people using their phones and laptops to do things such as presentations. There are also production-oriented activities, where we use handheld devices for scanning. These are warehouse-type activities.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the cloud-managed aspect.
What needs improvement?
Technical support is an area that needs to be improved.
The initial setup could be easier.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with ExtremeWireless since they were Brocade VCS. We worked with Brocade for several years and then got rid of those products, opting for ExtremeWireless approximately four years ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, so far so good. Overall, it hasn't been bad at all. I can't say that it's been horrible.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
With respect to scalability, this product is good. It's on par with the competitors. We have several hundred users.
How are customer service and support?
The ExtremeWireless technical support is mediocre.

The initial setup is not as easy as it could be but it's not that bad.
The length of time for deployment depends on the number of access points that are being installed. In our case, it wasn't too bad.
What about the implementation team?
As this is a cloud-based solution, maintenance is done by the vendor. The maintenance required on our end is fairly low.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This product is not too expensive but not inexpensive, either. It is on par with everybody else. The cost varies depending on the number of access points that you have.
We pay approximately $30,000 per year.
What other advice do I have?
In summary, this is not a product that I recommend. Rather, I would suggest that people implement Cisco instead.
With Cisco, you get a true enterprise-class, best-in-breed solution. The Cisco support is top-notch, and the Cisco community is unlike anything else. Cisco's website is intuitive, they communicate rather effectively, whereas, Extreme is a smaller company and their website is not intuitive.
The cloud-managed portal changes, it seems like on a whim, without communication. One month it might be that you find something like a configuration item here, and then the next month it's hidden somewhere else. Whereas, Cisco is much more streamlined, much more communicative, and much more intuitive to use.
I would rate this solution a four out of ten.

It provides us with enterprise-level authentication methods at a decent cost
What is our primary use case?
ExtremeWireless is deployed in our staff quarters. It's a small building with three floors, and we have deployed eight ExtremeWireless access points. It is an appropriate solution for the moderate bandwidth needs in the staff quarters. However, we don't use ExtremeWireless for heavy video streaming and other activities that require high bandwidth.
How has it helped my organization?
It is really hard to find locks or shed events in the controller, which makes troubleshooting difficult. When there are some issues, we need another login license to analyze this log. The controller has no log-based features.
What is most valuable?
ExtremeWireless provides us with enterprise-level authentication methods at an excellent cost. It supports all the latest authentication methods. Another advantage is the built-in DHCP server. We don't need third-party DHCP servers to get the IPF.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using ExtremeWireless for about eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
ExtremeWireless is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
ExtremeWireless isn't scalable. It's good for a medium-sized deployment.
How are customer service and support?
ExtremeWireless support isn't very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Ubiquiti and Fortinet before. ExtremeWireless has some of the same issues as Ubiquity. We are looking for a better access point with more penetrating power indoors. Extreme is somewhat better.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up ExtremeWireless is easy, and we can do it without any vendor help in less than a day. After deployment, we require three network engineers to manage and maintain the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
ExtremeWireless isn't budget-friendly. The hardware costs around 20,000 Indian rupees. We're still using an older controller, so it doesn't require a license, unlike the newest versions of the ExtremeWireless controller.

Simple implementation, simple to scale, and great support
What is our primary use case?
We use ExtremeWireless for internet conductivity.
How has it helped my organization?
Extreme Wireless has helped out organizations because of its flexibility. We can easily configure multiple SSIDs. It gave us the option to provide a separate connection for our guests and our team. Additionally, it has given us the ability to segregate our network. People don't have access to a specific server if they don't have the restriction level to see them.
What is most valuable?
ExtremeWireless is a flexible solution.
What needs improvement?
The user interface of ExtremeWireless could be better. It is not user-friendly.
In the future release, they could improve by making an easier way to work on an extender for existing wireless networks.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using ExtremeWireless for approximately one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
ExtremeWireless is very reliable and stable. We didn't have any problems throughout the year.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We are not that dynamic in terms of employee number, or employee count. We haven't had the need to grow or shrink in size. However, scalability is very easy. You only need to add the serial number for the access point on the cloud and it will use the same settings and configuration, everything will be ready without touching anything.

I would rate the support from Extreme Wireless a five out of five.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of ExtremeWireless is straightforward. The time it takes for the implementation depends on the complexity of what is needed to be configured. If you want something straight out of the box, you can have it ready in maybe 10, or 15 minutes. If you want to build something complex regarding multiple networks, multiple SSIDs, or some kind of security measure, you will need a couple of hours.
What about the implementation team?
We did the implementation in-house. The solution does not require maintenance.

I rate the price of Extreme Wireless a three out of five.
