It does FANTASTIC in handling slides with high lighting contrast, much better than two other scanners I've had. Clarity and colors are excellent, and it is user friendly.And here's what's REALLY great; Epson's product support. I've used Epson's product support 3 times and gotten prompt help with a minimum of fuss. It seems like other companies ask many, many questions before they even start asking about your problem.This is the second product review I've ever written, and the first positive one - that says something pretty outstanding about the V550 and Epson.Bruce ChristophersonSeattle, WA

Rated 5 out of 5 byKasloguy from V550 Photo Scanner Is ImpressiveFor its price point, I was pleasantly surprised how sophisticated this scanner was.My main reason to purchase it was to transfer some old colour slides that my grandfather created in the 1960s as well as scan some colour and black&white negatives from my current 35mm film work.The colour correction and dust removal feature actually does a respectable job.Thanks to this device, I won't need top set up a dark room with enlarger (just yet).

But once I set it up and began using it I sure liked the images I was getting. The scanner makes excellent reproductions once you get it figured out. I do however think a bus load of blind monkeys with typewriters could have written a better software package.

Rated 5 out of 5 byFlew 2 Low from Cannot get scanner to work!Downloaded the software from the enclosed disk. Got the new software updates but keep getting a "Epson shut down unexpectedly. Re-load software". I have tried 3 times and still get the same error? The scanner will not work?

Rated 5 out of 5 byHistory Lover from Easy To UseI bought this last month. I had over 2,000 old 35mm negatives in a box at the tope of the closet in my home office, along with about 500 slides. Dated from 1962 to about 1975. With my Epson V550 Photo Scanner I was able to convert all but about 1% to a file on my computer for sorting, "touching up" and making ready for printing. I love it! It only took about 10 minutes getting use to the process and then BAM! I was finished within a week. Now I'm going through old photos, which I scan and print for family and friends.
