Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic large high resolution monitor I ordered this monitor, not really knowing what to expect, due to the covid chip shortage, I had to wait 8 months for it to be delivered, but it was worth the wait. It is one of the nicest monitors I have ever had the pleasure to use, the screen is very sharp, everything works through the USB-c port (no HDMI or VGA cables to connect), the screen is bright and vibrant, even the internal speaker puts out a reasonable sound level. I will be buying another for my works computer (not looking forward to another 8 month wait) but an amazing monitor that I would highly recommend.

This replaced a Dell 27" monitor that was great but wanted more landscape (for 3 programs that I use at the same time, for hours each day). I debated using 2 - 27" monitors but one person pointed out the monitor bezel (when 2 are set side by side) might be distracting and the he cost of 2 - 27" (not to mention, 2 more cables of clutter). So I bought this 38" curved. 1) curved isn't for everyone. I'm not thrilled with it. Actually have to have the monitor closer to my eyes that the 27". 2) it's twitchy. The "Dell Display Manager" is quite complex to use 3) not all programs look good on a curved screen 4) You will need a substantial monitor arm. The base is well designed but you are unable to adjust much, especially in the way of distance from where you need to have the best view. I opted for a gas cylinder adjustable arm (prepare to do your homework and a cheap one won't work well). 5) the resolution is good but it does not support 4K so if you need that, don't buy this. 6) Dell's shipping box is understandably large. But the abuse of the FedEx handlers was remarkable. I was anticipating when I opened the box to have a damages or cracked monitor. Gladly, there was no damage but the box was beat-up. If you are considering a curved monitor, go find one you can spend some time with. 7) Dell's return policy is a short window on this. It is technically 14 days BUT that includes shipping time. Odd but that's their policy. So it took 4 days to arrive, so you need to spend a lot of time quickly to insure you want it or you'll be stuck with it. (I was on travel after it arrived so I had little time to try it.) if you wanted to return it. Bottom line: in hindsight, I would not buy it and would have gone with a 2nd 27".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely amazing monitor Pros: the huge screen is big enough for all purposes: coding, split screen, watch movie, edit video... The USB-C charges my laptop also so I only need to plug 1 single cable into my laptop. Beautiful color and has good brightness so I can use it next to my window. It has a lot of ports that can charge other devices at the same time. Cons: the USB-C cable is a little shorter than I would prefer. The speaker is not as good as the speaker of the Macbook Pro. Overall a VERY good and sturdy monitor.

The image quality was good, but not great - a bit too fuzzy compared to macbook retina screen. Dell customer service was amazing so returned my defective unit, and bought its bigger brother, u4021qw, which I really like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beat monitor monitor, kvm is lacking. Awsome monitor. This is my wfh screen. Perfect size for office work, no windows scaling needed. Fine for casual gaming. Size easily supports 2 to 3 applications open at the same time. My one complaint ia the kvm. It doesnt switch between devices they way a kvm should. you have to use the monitor display settings to switch imputs. Kot keys via a ftware are a no go also, soon as th computer is locked guess what, hot keys dont work. I was super disappointed by this as i wanted and easy way to toggle 1 keyboard/mouse for my work and personal computer. Having a remote or just quick input butons would make this better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressive monitor I bought this for photo editing and was quite reluctant, as I had always used a wide gamut monitor specifically for photos and color calibration, but the real estate for this was tempting. I am pleasantly surprised. It was decent out of the box, but calibration (with I1) was easy and yielded a near perfect match to another monitor beside it that I have used for years for editing. I was also pleasantly surprised how much cooler it was -- the prior monitor, smaller, was almost 100 watts, and gave off significant heat. The connectivity is good, though the plugs are a bit awkward to access and the KVM aspect is obscure and did not seem to work quite right in my one attempt at using it (probably user error but like I said, obscure -- it's hardly my first KVM). Overall, very happy.

However, the KVM puts the computer to sleep immediately when switching to the second computer and mouse movements and key presses don't wake it up when switching back (I have 2 MacBook Pros). This was my biggest disappointment since it was a big reason I chose the Dell over other options. I ended up getting a separate KVM switch so that it would work with my setup. Also, the PiP/PBP feature is a pain to change with the menu access at the back of the monitor. I have the monitor far back on my desk because it is so large (one of the reasons I wanted it) and so trying to access the button on one side, on the back of the monitor is inconvenient.

I was tempted to try a larger than normal size (34" is what I am used to and saw this 38" instead. Upon opening it, the packaging was excellent and they thought of everything including the ability to mount it before pulling protective sheets/cardboard away from the monitor. It mounted fine, worked even better! The image is sharp and I am able to see clearly for my work needs now, including full spreadsheets side by side and large image editing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Hub Is Your Friend Aside from the great video quality, the standout feature for me is the USB-C Hub. I am in the IT industry and I work across multiple computers all the time. The Hub allows for that to happen seamlessly and without issue. My first experience with the Hub was with the 34 inch version of this monitor and when it died due to multiple power surges from my power company, the only replacement that would do was the U3821DW. I simply unplugged all of my cables from the old monitor and plugged them in the new one and I was back in business as if nothing ever happened. Highly recommend this monitor for its clarity and brightness and if you have multi-computer needs like I do, this monitor is the way to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and functional 38" curved monitor Very nice monitor. Good colors and responsiveness. Cord management built into base, nice touch. Unboxing and setup was quite easy. DisplayPort 1.4, 2xHDMI and USB-C (DP 1.4) for video input. 3+ USB port hub built in and available with an optional USB 3.2 USB-C input from computer (to provide power/data). I'd recommend downloading and installing Dell Display Manager right away, it helps greatly with customizing the monitor's layout. Can treat it as a single display, divide it in half, thirds, quarter the display etc., to help manage application placement when working with multiple apps. Easy to transition from split screen, to third screen, back to full screen mode on the fly. This monitor replaced 2 27" monitors and I've been using it about 3 weeks. I haven't missed the dual displays much at all, transition to single display has been pretty seamless. Reclaimed some desk space and still enough room for the few times I've wanted the 2nd monitor. I just left the cables up on the desk and pulled one of the old 27" out of the closet and placed it on the desk for the few hours I wanted it. Mainly just enjoy the extra desk space with just this single 38" monitor vs the dual 27" monitors.

The anti reflective screen works great as the display faces the window, and I hardly see any reflection. The curved surface helps a lot in diffusing any left over reflection. The speakers sound good enough, and better than any other display speakers that I used in the past. The sound volume is big and clear. If you need superb audio, go for separate audio system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All the data your eye's can see. The Dell UltraSharp is a beuatiful piece of hardware. This is the first widescreen monitor that I have had the chance to use. This is definitly a monitor with productivity in mind. The Dell software that runs along with the monitor allows for multple, and custom screen layouts. These layouts allow you to snap multiple windows across the monitor, to achieve the perfect layout. The USB-C connection is really awersome! I can connect an iPad, or any device really easily with just one cable. The monitor comes with all of the cables you need to get started, including Displayport, and USB-C. The display itself also has additional USB ports on the front underside of the screen for added connectivity. The display has a really beautiful screen, and suprisngly powerful speakers built in as well. I highly recommend this device, if you are looking to expand your viewing space with out adding additional screens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good monitor, lacks some features This monitor is very nice. However, it lacks the ability to be adaptive with refresh. When working with various video formats, the monitor does not adapt easily. While still pictures are amazing, with only 60hz available, playing hi resolution video is often laggy. The monitor does not have HDR. So while stills look amazing, they can be so much more if HDR was employed. When compared to other DELL monitors, lacking HDR in this price range is disappointing. The monitor puts off a bit of heat. This was a bit more than I expected, but not too much to be worry some about. i had to move some items away from the shelf atop the monitor. The monitor in an office environment works well, but i would not recommend this for my users that utilize multiple inputs because switching between them is a bit cumbersome. The monitor offers a great many inputs, but i would have liked to see a simpler method of changing inputs on the fly, like a dedicated input button, rather than a joystick and options to choose. The built-in speakers are very limited. They do not have a wide range and will not be impressive for video presentations or reviews. THey are perfectly fine for video/audio conferences and phone calls. The accompanying stand did not elevate the monitor as much as i would have liked. I did not use it and used a monitor desk mount instead. Overall, this is a good business monitor that is good for business tasks, but i do not recommend this for our organization. Instead, we will continue using 22-24 inch dual monitor solutions (infact we just ordered 50 from DELL).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from plenty of real estate I was using a 27" plus the laptop screen folded up on a stand next to the 27". I bought this monitor to replace all of that and it works great. You have to look a bit to find utilities for easily sizing windows into thirds of the screen (as the ones built into the OS generally just want to split it in half), but it's worth the effort. Specific to this product, the stand is sturdy, the built-in ports are convenient, and I'm still working out the details of using the KVM switch with minimal interaction, but I'll say it looks promising.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect business monitor for productivity I'm using this monitor on a Windows 11 desktop, and the gains in productivity probably paid for the monitor in the first week. I used to have three monitors, and replace the main two with this monitor. It is sharper, brighter, and being able to have windows of any size is great. The new window functions in Win 11 help as well. The only issue I have is that it is too big to share in Zoom and Teams meetings, so I keep a third monitor just for screen sharing, but work primarily off the wide screen.

The Dell Display Manager app makes the applications clean on the screen and easily accessible (20 formats to choose from and more by holding down the SHIFT key to enable zone positioning). It is much easier on the eyes, which is hugely important when you're on screens all day. Awesome purchase.

I almost bought the 49" (was on sale for less) and I'm glad I didn't as for my eyes (reading glasses), this is almost too big. If it was larger I'd have to roll my chair over to read the far corners of the screen, although maybe I could use the exercise. I had to make my cursor larger as I kept losing it and my computer loves to open small windows in the top left corner which I often don't notice and I'm sitting there waiting. I typically worth with my main window using 2/3 of the screen and then a browser open on top half of remaining 1/3. The bottom of that 1/3 is my notepad. Great layout. My only gripe is the software tools (to snap windows quickly to sections only supports Windows and we Linux guys want to see some love Dell)

It is much nicer to have the main content I'm working on in the middle of the display and background tasks on either side. My previous dual monitor setup had one display directly in front and one off towards the right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great WFH Monitor I'm extremely happy with this monitor as it works well with my MacBook Pro (MBP). I use this monitor as my main display which is large enough to have multiple windows open at the same time improving work efficiency. The built in hub is a great feature so there's only one USB-C connection to my MBP and the other connections (RJ45, 3.5mm audio jack for my external speakers and USB for webcam) are hidden behind the display for a clean aesthetic look to my desk area. When I need to download pictures from my DSLR, I simply connect the USB cable to the display's hub. No need for a docking station anymore. Picture quality is great as per the monitor's specs. My home office receives a lot of sunlight throughout the day and there's no glare on the screen and my eye's aren't as tired at the end of the day as they were with my previous monitor. I have watched some sample 4k videos on YouTube and the quality was outstanding. Not a deal breaker but not a fan of DDM. It's a known current issue on high CPU load but by not using DDM, it seems to have resolved the issue. Overall, no buyer's remorse and would recommend this monitor to others.

It took a little bit of reading to figure out how to plug my audio device in to use for conferencing but I was able to get that working. The display on it is beautiful, the built in audio is incredible and the flexibility of the various window layouts makes it so easy to fit everything you need on the screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best WFH monitor! coming from a 34” LG, i wasnt sure if the 38” would be a drastically bigger experience. it is. once you put them side by side the real estate difference is very apparent. the pixel density is extremely high, kvm functionality is great, speakers are 7/10 (but that’s just monitor speakers in general). it is a heavy monitor so make sure if you are using a monitor arm like me that it can hold the weight, or adjust the tension rods to hold this kind of weight. i considered the LG 38” since both monitors use LG’s panels (which i feel are the best panels right now), but the Dell’s KVM is what swayed me since i WFH 2 days per week. would recommend to anyone working from home, or in a hybrid environment!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Massive improvement to my computing life! I upgraded to the Dell U3821dw from a pair of 24 1920x1200 monitors. The improvement has been incredible, and I'm loving the extra vertical pixels. The picture is crisp and the colors are vivid. The docking capabilities of this display are very helpful. I removed so many cables from my desk when setting up this new display! In terms of computers, I alternate between a Macbook Pro and a Windows desktop PC. The Macbook, incredibly, now connects with a single USB-C cable, and with that I get charging, display, the USB hub, and a hardwired Ethernet connection. Nice. I don't use any of the monitor's auto-KVM intelligence, so I can't speak to its performance. But the monitor wakes up whenever I power on my PC or the Macbook. I'm never using both at the same time, so I'm happy. I am using this for web development, photo editing, and digital audio work. This monitor has made each of those endeavors way more enjoyable and efficient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, wide monitor with a great set of extended features As a software and game developer, I'm very pleased with this monitor with a few minor points. This is my first 21:9 monitor (3840x1600), and I'm very much enjoying the extra space; it eliminates the need for two screens. I have two systems connected to it: my Windows desktop and a MacBook Pro. Both OSes support it very well, running at native resolution and refresh rate (60Hz). One of my biggest complaints about my old monitor was that it took 3-5 seconds to wake up. The Dell UltraSharp comes on nearly instantly when I move the mouse! The USB hub works really well. It took a bit of effort to get it set up correctly, installing the Dell Display Manager software on both systems and configuring it to my needs. I love being able to use this monitor like a KVM, having my own custom shortcut keys to switch between systems with display, sound, keyboard and mouse all moving together. It charges my MacBook quickly and without complaining about low power source. Small issues I'm having include (a) cannot change volume level via the Dell Display manager app. This would be really nice since displays connected via DP or USB-C/TB need OS-level support to do volume changes over Display Port, which isn't always available. (b) If I connect my MacBook to the USB-C/TB port before it wakes from sleep, I have to unplug it and re-plug it back in to get the display to work (keyboard and mouse work fine without this).

I now have a single USB-C connection from my desktop to the monitor, this carries video and USB so I no longer need to run multiple cables. Also the wide and clear screen allows me to have all of my windows in one pace without having to deal with multiple virtual desktops.

The design is great and it is the perfect size if you need to have multiple windows open side-by-side. This replaced an old Dell 30" monitor that worked perfectly for more than 10 years and it is a much better solution than having two (or three monitors) side by side.

Image quality is amazing and the sound output from the speakers sounds 100x better than the weak speakers in my laptop. Monitor is portable enough to move around the house when I need a change of scenery. If you can afford it, buy it.

These monitors allowed me to have lots of work space plus view both computers at the same time. I can switch the mouse and keyboard with the push of a button. Have been amazing. 100% love these!!

Just a couple gotchas I'd love to see fixed NEXT time: - USB hub hiccups - if I connect the "display" and boot up, laptop will not recognize USB trackball or keyboard. *MUST* boot up laptop first to Windows login screen, *THEN* connect USB-C cable. (Wasn't an issue with my previous Dell display where I had a separate 3rd party USB-C dock that simply fed HDMI to the display) - Wish the stand went higher - still have to put the whole thing on an *additional* stand. (see photo) Likely to fix by replacing stand with a desk-mount arm. - Like my previous Dell display, I wish the dot pitch was reduced a hair. (I.E., larger dots) Something in the 90's would be welcome over the 100's.

We spent days reading monitor monitor reviews online, which only marginally helped as we are not gamers and refresh rates are not important to us are the IPS panel and 3840x1600 resolution. Also the design is important as its a home office in our loft. The U3821DW checked all the boxes and the USB hub/ speakers removed clutter form our desks. The design enhances or modern office finishes and the monitors are just more useful than two monitors

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feature rich, high quality, onboard power I have one of each, a 38" dell widescreen and a 34" dell widescreen I use at work. They are both very good monitors. I selected the 38 for home use because the height is superior for writing documentation. 38" is huge, by the way - a 36 would have probably been ideal. My experience with this monitor is 4 stars - I would dock it a star because the curvature is a bit much - I prefer the 34's curve which is half as much. The 38 is a deeper screen and is hard to keep pressed up against a wall in a compact workspace. The other is cost - it's not cheap. BUT - I'm leaving it as a 5 because the product itself is excellent - no bad pixels. Onboard usb-c power supply - which is basically a $200 dell dock included in the monitor. Plug the laptop in, and it charges, feeds the screen, and uses the peripherals attached to the monitor. That basically makes up for the extra cost - if you didn't already have the dell dock. Clarity is excellent, and my dell PC seems to already understand the color profile (corrections) for the u38.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost Great Display Due to Flaws The display is great in terms of features and image/video quality. The hub and KVM features are big pluses. Everything is integrated in one package making it an awesome piece of hardware. But it has several flaws for me. I have to use workarounds to overcome my issues: 1. The built-in speakers cannot be disabled permanently when used with external speakers. I turned it off and attached my speakers to it thinking that audio will go through the external speakers only. Nope. When the volume is raised, the built-in speakers will come online mixing the sound with the external speakers. In the end, I ended up installing an external DAC and speakers, avoiding the display audio altogether. 2. macOS cannot control the volume from the keyboard. Same reason why I ended up solving the problem as described in issue #1. Using the display OSD for volume is clumsy. 3. This may be due to the Mac Studio design or not the intended usage of the USB-C video input. When I connect the display to my computer using USB-C display port, the signal will be lost when the power saver puts the display to sleep. It will not reconnect unless I unplug and plug in the USB-C connector to the Mac. I ended up using a USB-C to HDMI adapter and connect to the HDMI 1 port. I purchased the display on sale, but I ended up using the savings to buy a pair of new speakers and the USB adapter. Perhaps PC users have better experience with this display.

The applications are not on screen so I have to move them back on to screen and sometimes they don't come back. So I either disconnect or close the program out. It is a little frustrating. When I plug in two monitors set them up they just work. This is not as plug and play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything is great except the speakers I upgraded from the U3818DW model, which was 3 years older, but almost the exact same specs. The main improvement for me is that the annoying chime from the MacBook Pro when it is asleep and charging is gone! Also the "joystick" in the back to operate the monitor controls is definitely easier to use than the previous four buttons on the bottom of the monitor. The ports in the back are also slightly easier to access. As with the 3818 model, the MBP charges well via the USB-C and I'm happy with the expansive display. The speakers are still awful though. All they are is loud. I cannot watch movies with the built-in speakers because the sound is so unclear and noisy. So I have to use the MBP laptop speakers which makes the sound come from the side of the monitor instead of balanced with the picture. If they're going to include speakers, I wish they were ones that could be actually used.

The size is perfect with bursting colors, fine crisp lines and deep background and details. Has a 4-way toggle switch on the back right corner that switches the screen function to 4-way, split, muti-screen etc. Great price with a good warranty, superior packaging, and very fast shipping options.

I am in the IT industry and I work across multiple computers all the time. The Hub allows for that to happen seamlessly and without issue. My first experience with the Hub was with the 34 inch version of this monitor and when it died due to multiple power surges from my power company, the only replacement that would do was the U3821DW. I simply unplugged all of my cables from the old monitor and plugged them in the new one and I was back in business as if nothing ever happened. Highly recommend this monitor for its clarity and brightness and if you have multi-computer needs like I do, this monitor is the way to go.

Anyone that works heavily in spreadsheets or has monitoring tools open at all times while doing all their other tasks like having a service queue or performance monitor while working on documentation would be well served by this. I honestly go back and forth on if I like this or the 49" ultrawide better.

Negative in that I need to utilize software to create areas on the monitor to snap applications to. Snapping to pre-defined quadrants can cause delay when trying to move applications around. Did not work quite like I expected it to.

Well, Designed, Works well; the only thing I wish it had was better volume control (software or hardware) to adjust the volume via the soft key and should have a dedicated up/down or be able to be controlled by The Dell Monitor Manager on the MAC. Other than that, I do love this monitor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's REALLY WIDE! Overall, I really like this monitor. It replaced two monitors on my desktop and resulted in a slightly smaller footprint than one landscape and one portrait 27" display. It does have a much cleaner look. The build quality seems good and it was packed well for shipping but the box is a real challenge to recycle as it is the most complex cardboard package I have ever seen. Brilliant piece of workmanship, but hard to break down. I have two issues with the solution. The first is that the documentation is very slight. There is a "quick" guide included in the box, but for someone used to video over DP or HDMI, a USB with video and keyboard/mouse was beyond my experience. I was able to get it working with some trial and error but after a few weeks I needed to do a deep dive in the documentation to optimize my configuration, but the manual is very shallow. The app is okay, but can be a bit confusing beyond the basics. It seems that my configuration might not be typical. I have two computers each with two video outputs. I want it to work like my old portrait/landscape two monitor solution and this two and two configuration seems to be the only option. I can expand a window across the whole screen or I can easily snap it to maximum in either portrait or landscape (left or right of the screen). The problem is switching between the two computers. I typically either want one computer or the other with both screens always in the same configuration. Unfortunately the Dell software has no easy way to switch the KVM like this. There is a hotkey to switch from computer to computer but it only works if you use a single display per computer. Currently I hotkey to pop up the application, then choose the menu option for the inputs, then the tab for PBP, then I make sure the Dell app is on the "main" display and switch the "sub" display. Then I switch the "main" display. It works, but a hotkey would be way easier. Dell has confirmed this behavior is as designed for my desired configuration. I have asked for options such as the DDC/CI codes to use third party software to make the switch, but that request is still in progress.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Massive improvement to my computing life! I upgraded to the Dell U3821dw from a pair of 24 1920x1200 monitors. The improvement has been incredible, and I'm loving the extra vertical pixels. The picture is crisp and the colors are vivid. The docking capabilities of this display are very helpful. I removed so many cables from my desk when setting up this new display! In terms of computers, I alternate between a Macbook Pro and a Windows desktop PC. The Macbook, incredibly, now connects with a single USB-C cable, and with that I get charging, display, the USB hub, and a hardwired Ethernet connection. Nice. I don't use any of the monitor's auto-KVM intelligence, so I can't speak to its performance. But the monitor wakes up whenever I power on my PC or the Macbook. I'm never using both at the same time, so I'm happy. I am using this for web development, photo editing, and digital audio work. This monitor has made each of those endeavors way more enjoyable and efficient.
