Dell laptop has been sent back 3 times for repairs. I tried upgrading a few things. Guess what? Stupid thing crashed again. This will be 4 times i have sent this in for repairs. Stay away from the g3 laptops .

8GB RAM upgrade helped boost performance of my Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop. I am a developer and now I can run multiple development software without CPU and memory consumption reaching 100%. Dell can improve their supply chain. After Ordering it said its delayed by 2 weeks however it came with one week delay. Packaging can also be improved. There was no protection to the fragile memory stick other than its original thin plastic casing. It could have been easily damaged with little miss handling.

Easy memory upgrade
I easily upgraded from 8GB to 16GB primary memory in my Vostro laptop. I followed the directions in the user's guide. I needed to get the additional small-bit screwdriver to remove the cover, but otheriwse I had everything I needed to do the job. I am not a formally trained technician but have extensive experience working inside desktop computers (adding memory, adding/changing cards, drives).

I used an anti static wrist strap just to be on the safe side, not to static ruin any electronics.. I was worried the back of the laptop Inspiron 5593 would be hard to get apart, but it popped right apart..I used like a guitar pick thin plastic thing for replacing I pod screens etc. I went from 8 GB to 16 GB & my laptop had doubled in speed...opening e mails etc..web search's...Wow what an improvement..

Dell really is very poor at service in general and the products are inferior to say the least. It has been over a year and I am having the same problems with my laptop that I had originally even after 20 hours working with tech support. I am very happy with the memory upgrade but not the instructions. The instructions for installing were lousy. Instructions included taking much more of the computer apart than was necessary. Fortunately a grad student at the university where I work knew exactly what to do and was able to install very quickly. I'd suggest someone review and revise the instructions.

The 8GB Upgrade has my laptop performing extremely well. "Cracking the case" on my new laptop was a bit disconcerting. I did an online chat with Dell Support, the Agent confirming that my opening up the case to do the install of the upgrade would not void the Warranty. Interestingly enough, this was the only chat I've ever had with Dell Support that DID NOT result in an email to me with the "dialogue" captured. Nonetheless, the install went flawlessly and I'm very glad I purchased the upgrade - the laptop is blazing fast now!

Additional RAM does not fix low-end computer
If you have a low-end Dell computer (e.g. Inspiron 3583 adding additional RAM does not help very much. Your machine is going to continue to run frustratingly slow.

Arrived earlier than was expected. My laptop with this upgraded 8Gig-RAM, Compare to previous 4Gig-RAM works slower and it takes time to open new pages which was previously very fast. Keeping more than 4-5 tabs open is really challenging which was not like this before upgrading the RAM. In addition, It takes a while to boot-up. I didn't expect that the speed in my laptop become that much slower with higher RAM! Even the technician who changed it for me mentioned that the speed of processing will be improved a lot after upgrading the RAM from 4Gig to 8Gig which didn't happen at all!
I may not recommend upgrading the RAM to my friends as it was not a satisfying experience for me.

Stripped screws
I cannot rate this product. I have not been able to remove the screws that are behind the cd drive, that anchor the back to the key pad. The screws are stripped, they came that way. It would be nice to be able to install the memory that I purchased.

Necessary upgrade
The laptop I purchased only comes with 4GB RAM. That's not enough memory to much of anything these days, so I needed to upgrade. This extended memory arrived quickly and was surprisingly easy to install. The drawback is that the laptop warranty doesn't include a memory upgrade, but it was worth it. Be careful, the machine will run hot after long use.

Upgrading RAM, Lowered The Speed
Arrived earlier than was expected. My laptop with this upgraded 8Gig-RAM, Compare to previous 4Gig-RAM works slower and it takes time to open new pages which was previously very fast. Keeping more than 4-5 tabs open is really challenging which was not like this before upgrading the RAM. In addition, It takes a while to boot-up. I didn't expect that the speed in my laptop become that much slower with higher RAM! Even the technician who changed it for me mentioned that the speed of processing will be improved a lot after upgrading the RAM from 4Gig to 8Gig which didn't happen at all!
I may not recommend upgrading the RAM to my friends as it was not a satisfying experience for me.

Well Worth The Cost
The hardest part of the whole process was removing all the screws from the cover of my Inspiron laptop. Snapped the memory in, started up the laptop and there was a noticeable difference in the responsiveness. Well worth the cost.

Read manual before diving into install
This is mostly about the installation -
I've done this type of upgrade before at work and at home, but not on a recent laptop. So, I quickly glanced over the manual and went to it. I had to put on the brakes, because somethings didn't make sense and I was forcing plastic parts to bend almost to the point of breaking them. So, I re-read the instructions carefully and made sure to do just the steps that I needed to access the memory connectors, install the memory and then do the "reverse" steps. The install was alot easier after I read the manual and taken my time.
Also, it's a good idea to have an ESD kit (wrist strap and mat).
About the actual performance upgrade, it certainly does help - somewhere between subtle and noticeable performance gains, depending on the application.
