I ordered a 500GB SSD to keep the Notebook working and that was delivered at the same time and installed on the same day. I also purchased 8GB RAM memory to boost on the same device that I am writing this review, on a DEL Inspiron 13 5000 Series. Both items arrived within two days and were installed that same day.

If was an easy swap and a fresh Win 10 installation went flawlessly. Only takes 30 seconds from power up to online (WiFi) now. Used to take 10-15 minutes. Can't believe how inexpensive the SSDs have become.

I am not an IT expert and all the advice I could find was above my skill level. I have upgraded several devices using Crucial SSD's and cloning software, so this is really disappointing and I am now left with an SSD I have no use for.

It showed as shipped on the last day of your commitment date but actually didn't show up on the tracking number until 4 days after that date. I feel you should pay the shipping costs. Very weak communications of what was going on!

Still cannot make it work after many "chats" with the tech. experts. Sorting out the problem I am sure would be easily sorted by a short phone call, of coarse that is not an option.

The drive fitted into the original cradle and was easy to install. Used Win 11 recovery media purchased with replacement laptop to install and configure the crucial HDD. - Acer is now a backup laptop, containing copies of precious photos nearly lost with the HDD failure. - Recommended and good value/

Wanted to replace a SATA III drive with a Crucial SSD. Cloned drive, but not as a bootable drive. Gave up after five tries. Returned drive. Would make a fine back up drive, but that's not why it was purchased. Also, SSD connectors were very fragile. Returned drive for refund.

Had a bad sector on the disc I was coping from and it would not work. Had to use a different software that also would not work, but it found the bad sector so I could fix it. Then the transfer was flawless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SSD is FAST and easy to set up unless.... Used this to speed up and old FM2 system I built several years ago. That was a success. However, the downloadable "Storage Executive" app used to update firmware and other functions to further speed up the SSD stinks. It does nothing but lock up my system - which returned to normal once I restarted and removed Storage Executive. This sytem is 64bit and I had intended to install another MX500 SSD on a 32 bit system. While the installation instructions said I should download the "appropriate" version for account elecutive, the crucial web site only offered a 64bit version. When I questioned Crucial tech support about this apparent conflict, the response is that I should install it on a 32bit system anyway...Are you kidding me?? RED FLAGS! I will not risk trashing a 32bit system. Does not instill much confidence in Crucial's tech staff.

Periodically clone the main drive to the backup drive - Crucial supplies the app, so very easy to do. Good way to preserve your system, especially if you want to do some testing with different software, OS's, etc - run into a problem...just clone the original back.

Reusing the existing HDD that was cloned required some internet searching, but that had nothing to do with the SSD. The drive itself is everything I hoped for...FAST!

Crucial software for cloning drive worked effortlessly. Can't believe how well my 11 yr old dell responded to this little upgrade! After a hiccup contacted Crucial for a RM and within 2 weeks had a new drive at my door. Gotta love a company that stands behind their products with a 5 year warranty.

After seeing negative reviews about Acronis software issues, I put the new SSD away for many months not wanting to deal with problems. Finally placed in a home-built desktop that is several years old and was getting slower and slower every year. I suspected disk errors so decided to try this SSD instead of another HDD. Best decision I have made. The old machine is better than new and the cloning software from Acronis worked perfectly.

Being a bit ole skool decided not to relegate this old timer to the ancient of days heap. Decided to go the less costly route. Expanded the Ram and installed a Crucial SSD drive. Also purchased the install kit which made the work effortless. All files etc, brought over from the old HD (7200) and what a difference. What use to take 10-15 mins for the hard drive to settle down is now just a fraction of time, perhaps 30-45 secs. I'm happy, great choice, and Crucial did a good job laying out their full instructions.

I partitioned the SAMSUNG because only 200 GB are occupied. But Acronis does not offer to clone a partition. The only choice is the entire disk. How to do ? Thank you for helping me.

I was considering replacing it given it became so so slow with windows10. With this drive in, it seems like I have a whole new machine. Lightroom loads in less than 10 sec, boot time is less than 20s from totalling, browsing is instant. A totally new experience on my 10 year old ASUS equipped with I5 from that era and 'only' 8 MB RAM. Seriously, my photos load from catalog to develop module in less than 5s, sometimes it is instant. Couldn't ask for more.

I turn to Crucial based on the web site's computer look-up process and scan options to ensure that I get the correct product for the machine. The free disk cloning software is also a bonus. Apart from getting inside a laptop or PC (can range in difficulty), the upgrade process is straightforward. Minor quibble: I feel that the USB/SATA cable should be mentioned as an option for cloning on all SSD pages. Other than that, all my Crucial purchases have performed well and I'll continue to purchase from them.

It was helpful to download the installation instructions (after reading them MANY times) to my cellphone, so I had them at hand. The SSD itself not only had the correct physical dimensions, but also had four threaded holes on the sides for the screws used to attach the SSD to the support frame that came with the original HDD. The only glitch I encountered was with the Acronis software. When I opened Acronis, I had to hunt around to find the 'Clone Disk" option. The cloning process took 90 minutes for < 512 GB. The only indication I had that the transfer was complete was when the LED light on the Crucial SATA to USB connector stopped flashing. Otherwise, I followed the instructions and was amazed when I booted up my laptop. It looked like its old, familiar self - only a lot faster.

Both run very well - much better than with the old hard drive. This was well worth the price. The instructions for installing the drive are great as is the availability of the Acronis cloning software.

I see a big difference in boot time and opening programs. I backed up files from both machines prior to install and reinstalled files once the new drives were installed. I had no idea how slow my old drives were until I updraded to solid state drives.

The ease of installation depends on the device being upgraded, laptops needing more attention as opening the case can be more time consuming and risk breaking some plastic clips. Installing an SSD is by far the best way to extend the life of a laptop or desktop, unless upgrading to Windows 11 as computers older than 4 years are unlikely to be compatible with this OS and most newer computers will have an SSD.

Needed to buy the SATA to USB adapter to do the data transfer, which worked extremely well. Machine now runs super fast, boots in a 1/4 of the time (less than 10 secs) (Windows 10)

Is not crystal clear in the literature, but the cloning software is downloaded from another site. The software, once you find it, is comprehensive and almost foolproof, but again, for a fairly major hardware replacement like this, take your time to work with it. "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." Firmware update is great. Bottom line? Older computers will have new life for many more years. If you like what you have and want to keep a familiar footprint, this is about as good as you could hope for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I could give a flat out review After installation with another SSD, bought previously, my laptop functioned like lighting in a bottle, 13 hours later my laptop couldn't find any hard drives, couldn't detect any boot device, after 10 hours of troubleshooting the only time it saw any thing was in legacy mode, and if you know ssd's they won't run in legacy. So it ended up with me having to wipe drives and reinstall everything. Not sure why that this happened or how. But over all my experience with the product, was a little difficult to install, seemed a hair thicker than it should of been, but installed and read with no issues, though I can say crucial software would not read my hp Notebook-15-bs0xx aka HP Notebook Jaguar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great in a 2010 iMac Installation had it's "challenging" moments - iMac's are not the easiest machines to get into (getting the display out and back in is a pain - you just have to take your time). And figuring out how to best place the drive and the 3.5" adapter took two trys (hint: everything goes in upside-down). Lastly - just short the pins on the temperature sensor (that's what Apple does if you get an SSD). In the end, everything worked out - the drive works wonderfully. The bottom line - the machine is faster. OH - and don't forget to enable TRIM support in OSX (google for instructions - it's not difficult).

I had to use a 3dr party disc copy, Carbon Copy, worked great the first time. After that install and function was great! My machine after the new SSD and 16G of memory is faster than when it was new. For under $200 you have brought new life to an old MacBook Pro.

Unfortunately not the same can be said for support to upgrade my laptop to a ssd. I chatted with two different support techs and neither one could fix my problem. The second one suggested a few options that I was not comfortable with doing. I eventually ended the chat and resigned myself to attempt to fix it on my own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crucial SSD Terrific - Acronis True Image Not Terrific I recently upgraded an older Toshiba laptop and older Gateway desktop to Crucial MX500 SSDs. The performance improvement in both is outstanding. Both machines now perform almost as good as my newer Dell XPS-15 laptop. I can't say the same positive statement for the Acronis True Image for Crucial software that is recommended to be used for cloning. In both instances, the cloning process failed to accurately clone my old hard drives. With the Toshiba laptop, both the sound and wireless capabilities were initially not working after cloning. I was able to correct the sound issue by updating the drivers however I was never able to get the wireless working. I ended up re-cloning using free AOMIE Backupper Standard software which worked flawlessly. My Gateway cloning experience was worse because after initially using Acronis, Windows would not even start up. Again I re-cloned using AOMIE which worked fine. I don't know why I had problems with Acronis but perhaps it is because both of my machines have AMD processors and are running Window 7 Home Premium. In any case, both computers now work great so the final result for both is a happy ending. I would have given 5 stars but deducted one for the Acronis problems.

Some lessons learned over many attempts: * Be sure Windows is completely up-to-date before beginning, otherwise it will be updating in the background and interfering with the cloning and partition-editing processes. Best way to do this is to "update and shut down" multiple times until it stops saying "...% complete. Do not turn off your computer." * Beware: Unless the SSD is exactly the same size as the original disk, don't use the"Automatic" setting to clone the disk. Use "Manual" and specify "As is" so the partition sizes are preserved. Use other tools to adjust partition sizes and placement as needed after installing the SSD. * The process will likely break the boot loader if dual-booting. It's simplest to blow away the Kubuntu partitions, re-partition, then install a fresh Kubuntu and restore user content from backups. It took starting over perhaps half a dozen times to learn these and other lessons, but in the end we migrated two machines to SSD and have everything working just fine. The guidance from Crucial was very helpful, though I had to do a bunch of web-searching to resolve boot-loader issues and find a partition editor compatible with Windows. Fortunately, I like tech troubleshooting, so the many days I spent getting it all working were fun for me. Those who are running only one operating system will likely find the process much simpler, especially if the OS is Windows.

Can't believe the difference! Make sure to have the srt (Torx security) drivers with hollow ends before starting.

That Crucial item should be mentioned all the times the web site brags about how easy the cloning process is. Yes it's mentioned in the install guide but I didn't review the install guide before buying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be sure to give your NEW SSD a Letter Drive Name I had a huge problem getting this SSD drive to work in my Lenovo Edge 15. I cloned the drive twice to get the thing to work. After the second time, I gave up, and the following day, I went onto Crucial's website for support. They only offered chat, so I gave it a try. They were not much help, making me run around in circles trying to figure out what the issue was. After many hours of struggle, I finally figured out why the new SSD would not load my Windows operating system. Lenovo's OneKey Recovery software was booting up because the SSD did not have a drive name associated with it. It was a simple fix, associate a letter drive name to the new SSD drive and everything worked out great. So much faster than what I had. I am happy with the product, but not so much with their options for support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from installed in desktop speed improved, installed in brand new Lenovo laptop setup was a breeze Bought two drives, installed one on a slow laptop, performance increased 10 fold, no more waiting to boot up or run apps. number two was installed in a brand new Lenovo P52S laptop that was slow starting up. Stopped setup, installed SSD drive copied original drive to it rebooted, from then on everything was fast. Will buy more Crucial MX500 to replace slow drives in newer computers.
