The Canon Speedlite 470EX-Al Auto-Mode Flash enhances EOS digital cameras for better picture quality. Its Auto Intelligent (AI) Bounce function that enables it to detect the distance to the subject as well as the ceiling in order to calculate the ideal angle for the flash to achieve desired results, automatically. The flash head swivels in multiple directions to formulate the ideal bounce flash angle. This camera accessory can even maintain defined exposure and bounce angles when users are alternating between horizontal and vertical compositions. In addition, it boasts a powerful maximum guide number of 47 meters (154 ft.) at ISO 100, a zooming flash head and numerous features for versatile, powerful flash photography.

However, once I took it out of the box, I realized how easy it is to use. The quality of my pictures has increased tremendously! I am a gifted amateur, but figuring out light has always eluded me. Pretty fast in auto-finding the best angle and intensity if flash light. And there is always manual mode to override if you feel so. Its a great package and must have; especially for beginners in flash photography.

The auto bounce feature is easy to use and does a good job of eliminating washed-out subjects and minimizing shadows. I have used it in full auto mode and have not had time to experiment with the advanced manual settings, but the flash so good in auto, there is probably little need to take it off of auto mode.
