I have always had HP printers, but got tired of all the signing in and restrictions on ink usage (You have to use theirs or machine won't work) This printer does everything I want and need in a printer scanner. Easy to set up and use. One word of advice, copy down the password as it is required for updates. Depending on where you set it up it can be inconvenient to get at.

I do not understand why setup has been so difficult for some users. I work from home on a secured network and there are layers of software that tend to complicate my life, but with the Brother printer, it couldn't have been easier. I was up and running inn 15 minutes, including the setup to print from my phone. Print quality is good and the printer comes with full cartridges. I used to be a huge proponent of HP for years but their new 'ink subscription program' is a real joke. Plus the reviews of quality on the new machines has been abysmal. Nee a printer that can do everything? Then look no further that the Brother MFC-j6555DW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great printer with ample ink supply I’ve installed many printers going back to the dot-matrix era and this was by far the easiest experience I’ve had. The printer’s hi-res color touchscreen walked me through the physical setup such as installing the ink cartridges and running alignment checks. Then it was a simple matter on my PC of going to Brother’s setup web page and downloading the installer. This was strictly a wifi installation, and I’m not sure how it did it, but the installer was able to find the printer and configure it onto my network without my entering anything manually – not even a password! The rest of the software package, including drivers, scanning utility, and other tools installed with no problems. This is a very fast and flexible printer with a wide variety of paper sizes and types supported. We have plain letter paper in the main tray and then use the multi-function tray in the rear for special printing such as sheets of labels. The rear tray opens at an angle and is quite usable without having to have much clearance behind the printer. This is our first printer that uses “ink tank” technology and I’m anxious to see how much more cost-effective it is with regard to ink cost. In the past we’ve used a laser printer for our day-to-day printing and an inkjet only when we needed color, but if the rated page count is close to accurate we’ll start using this printer by default. Scanning is very quick as it doesn’t have to warm up as my previous scanners always had to do. It will also be nice for scanning large-format pages up to 11”x17” in size. One criticism is that the included scanning utility is pretty basic in features. Specifically, it doesn’t have a “preview” feature that would let me select a specific area to scan such as for scanning a particular illustration without the rest of the page. However, the scanner can be used directly from more powerful apps such as Acrobat, Paintshop Pro, etc. I am also quite impressed with its compatibility with mobile devices and cloud technology. For example, the printer can be connected to a number of your cloud accounts such as Dropbox and Google Drive and can then scan documents, convert them to PDF or JPEG, and upload to those accounts just using the front panel. Likewise, it can download and print documents from the cloud. Brother’s “Mobile Connect” app is what is used on your smartphone or tablet, with versions for both Android and Apple available. There are quite a number of settings to learn about, both on the machine and in the drivers and other software. However, for basic usage to print color or b&w on letter size paper it’s good to go right out of the box with the default settings. I’ve always preferred printed user guides but those are gone forever and the guides on the Brother web site seem quite good. I’m sure that I’ll be trying out this printer’s other features as I go along, but after just a few days’ usage I’m quite satisfied with it. One thing to note about this printer is that it is probably intended for offices or small businesses and is very large compared to typical “home” printers. It fits OK in our “home office” room but be sure to view the specifications and be sure it will fit where you intend it to go. Note in the photo the MFC-J6555DW next to our old Brother HL-2270DW laser printer. For us, it’s well worth the extra space.

It is similar to and relatively equivalent to the older predecessors in the same line from brother we have used in the office for over ten years. The older ones were a bit more user friendly and did not shutoff and have to be turned back on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing printer with easy setup! The Brother-MFC-J6555DW printer has been amazing! It came with everything needed to get it going. I was very impressed with how easy of a setup it was for such a big machine that does so much. I was able to get it going in about 20 min. It makes copies, scans, fax, and prints. I tested everything but the fax. Everything works flawlessly and was very impressed with the speed of the printer. I will say it is a big machine but if you have the space, it's worth it! My favorite features so far is the ability to connect to wifi and use the printer through my phone. Now I can print anything or scan, copy via my phone. Print quality is great, everything is readable the colors look great on paper. Another feature I loved it the ability to view previews of my documents through the screen of the machine when making a copy, this way I can get an idea if I need to change document positions or make any changes before printing. The screen can be adjusted higher or pushed in for better visibility but it's also in COLOR! No more black and white screens. You can have two paper trays to use but I am only using this at home so I'll only be using the top tray. It's adjustable for different paper sizes so I love how versatile it can be used for. To first set it up I had to place in all 4 inks (inkjet Blue, red, yellow, and black so I am unsure if this will only work with Black, this is something to keep in mind if you are someone that normally just uses black and white. This does not affect me as I normally let it print in Color. I was honestly a little hesitant at first because of its size and all it does but overall I recommend it, extremely easy to use and set up, and will work great for offices, businesss, or home use for all your documents and projects.

We haven't had it very long so are still working with that issue. All in all, I would recommend this printer.

This printer is good and we like it but it seems to jam more than our last printer. It gets a paper jam at least once a day, other than that we really like Brother products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prints OK But Less than a year old and the printer is already having problems with streaks on paper while printing. A few months ago we could not receive phone calls, come to find out the printer had taken control of the phone line and was answering every call with a fax. We had to disconnect the phone line and now have no fax. The J6555DW only has one paper tray but a back slot which our printer has now assigned as its primary paper source and we cannot put the tray back as primary. Finally the printer is now only copying in photo quality and we cannot get it back to normal quality no matter what we try. Really disappointed in this printer. The last one we had lasted 6 years before it started to have drum problems and it was cheaper to replace than repair but it gave its all for us. This was one of the only printers Brother had in Ink Jet that can print 17 X 8.5 inch paper. We are a fire dept and need that quality but it is inconvenient to have to change everything over to print 17 inch because it only has one tray.

Now as a consultant, I continue to find Brother printers an exceptional product at a very good price. This Brother MFC-J6555DW is a terrific All in One Printer. I had a similar printer from Brother for over six years and decided to purchase a new model. This printer copies very fast. Nice feature is when you place a ledger size document on the screen to copy, it knows and you don't have to adjust settings manually. Ink usage seems to be minimal after almost four months. Printer is quiet and initial setup was flawless. Wireless setup could not be easier. Touch screen to control all functions is perfect. I highly recommend this printer.

It’s hard to figure out how to connect it through Wi-Fi to all the ways you can scan things. The prince and copies are excellent. Still not sure how to use all of the functions!

Setup was a breeze with the UI on the printer and the app. The only time we referenced the manual during setup was to figure out where the default password was (it was on the back of the printer). The scan to mobile feature is nice, and the ability to print while away from home is pretty cool too. But the best thing, in my opinion? The fact that we won't have to buy ink for a loonnnnggg time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oh Brother, what a printer!! I’ve never had a printer with ink tank technology and I don’t know how I got along without it. The last printer that I had that claimed to be an all in one it only meant that they meant I still needed to buy expensive cartridges which ultimately decreased the number of prints I had left on the cartridges and ended up blocking out some of the features on the device when those cartridges were too low on ink. An amazing thing about this brother printer is that you don’t notice that and it never does that. This is by far the nicest all-in-one printer I’ve ever owned. Granted the size of the printer is big and I wasn’t sure the first time that I saw it but it’s very easy to set up really, you just plug it in, and then the LCD screen on front walks you through everything. There is a drawer on the bottom which holds blank paper of course for things like landscape printing and then there’s a tray in back for portrait printing. The print quality is excellent and it’s very quick it comes with the scanning function which I also found to work extremely well. I love the fact that there is a Wi-Fi connection and I’m able to print from my PC and through my phone. Judging by the print quality I would absolutely say it’s professional and the ink cartridge it comes with is very large I don’t know when I’ll need to buy more not to mention the fact that they throw in I believe a year's worth of refills in the box. This printer has amazing features in such a what I still think is a compact design it feels like a much higher dollar office printer that you can not only afford to have at home but can still find the space in any room. I’ve never been able to have a brother printer in the past and since I have a home office now I wanted a printer that has a name that is synonymous with quality I came across this printer by brother and can see why the company has been around for such a long time. Excellent job on this printer, I’m very happy with it!

The prints are sharp and capture the color very well. I print a lot for work and it prints extremely fast, almost faster then the huge industrial sized printers. I like how many sheets of paper it holds so you aren’t having to refill it every time you print a bigger task. My favorite part is the ability to print to cloud services and sharing quick and easy. Brother thank you for such a great printer built with quality pieces and ease of use in mind. Our family loves this!

I always wanted to have a multi functional printer that can print bigger sizes of paper and this one not only does this job but also every single thing that I always wanted in a printer. I am already very familiar with Brother printers. I have used Brother printers at my work and had one when I was in college. I always loved Brother products because they are efficient with the ink, it lasts more than in other printers. This one is just amazing. The MFC-J6555DW combined a high efficient printer, big size scanner and fax in a single product. I can even print 11"x17" paper size. I also love that I can print papers pretty fast and with great quality (black and white or colored), up to 30 pages per minute. Another amazing feature of the product is that I can connect it with my phone or any computers, devices in my house using the internet. I connected it with my Alexa too! It is amazing all the possibilities I have with this Brother printer. I love printing my files from my phone. The Brother MFC-J6555DW comes with ink amount that lasts a year and also with a 2 year warranty. You really cannot get anything better than this in my opinion! I truly recommend this amazing right quality product and everyone that comes to my place and sees it wants one too! approx dimensions of the product: 22.83 in x 18.89 in x 11.81 in (height). The directions were easy to follow and the installation was a breeze. Connects easily to your Wi-Fi for wireless printing. Another great feature is you can print straight from your phone through the northern mobile connect app. This is the perfect addition to my at home office.

Finding a big enough stand was another interesting story. After settling on this printer, I found it extremely easy to set up and all my devices linked beautifully. I have printed a couple of large documents and love the speed and quality!

I hate it and will be looking for another brand of printer in the future. There was an occasional paper jam, but it was worth it to automatically print both sides. Did I tell you I hate it?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Inkjet you can buy for the price This (MFC-J6555DW) is the best inkjet printer I have owned and I have had 4 previous inkjets, but thisis my first brother printer. This printer prints so much faster than any inkjet I have owned or used. It prints on standard, legal, and ledger (11 X 17) size paper, which is a great feature. It holds enought ink in the cartridge for months of printing at the rate that I use it. It was easy to setup and I get periodic software updates from Brother as needed. I have had this for about 3 months now and have had no problems with paper jams or any other issue. I use 22 lb bond paper in the printer. Print quality is first rate, scans and make high quality copies. It is a large and heavy printer, but I attribute that to sturdy build quality and the size of paper that it handles. This is the best printer buy I have ever had. Highly recommend this printer, it's speed will astound you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best 11x17 inkjet printer Brother printers are usually solid. Their 11x17 capable printers in the previous lineup were very good, but slower compared to the competition. This new lineup comes with a speed increase that puts them on par. The thing that has consistently set them apart from the competition is their software. There's another popular model of 11x17 inkjet printer we've used extensively, that inevitably has some sort of issues with printer drivers, and especially struggles with printing PDFs. Brother printers simply have never had these issues for us.

It's quiet, fast, sharp images, good color reproduction, and first page starts printing within a few seconds instead of a lengthy wake-up phase. Very glad we bought this Brother printer.

What makes this printed great other than the ink tank is that it prints and scans 11x17 which is good for anyone who deals with cad drawings.

I really appreciate that ink was included in the box - makes setup and actual use of the printer MUCH easier. This printer handles larger volume of documents with no problem, wifi connection is holding steady and there are no issues between computer/printer communication. Different size of documents that can be printed is appreciated! Colors are good without smudges. I still have to price ink replacement (for the future) but for now, I am very happy and can recommend!

The last all-in-one printer (not Brother I had did things the other way which means they forced me to buy only their expensive cartridges, artificially decreased the number of prints I had left on the cartridges, and locked out all other features of the device (even scanning!) when the cartridges were deemed to be "too low on ink". This all-in-one device DOES NOT DO THAT! One word of caution I'll give someone considering buying this is to make sure the size is right for you. This thing is BIG for casual home printing needs. I happen to have the perfect spot for it so it wasn't an issue for me, but it is something to keep in mind. The positive side of its size, and another reason I love it, is the nice big scanner bed is extremely versatile. There is a lot of painting in my household and it is extremely handy to be able to make a high quality scan of something more than 8x10 or whatever legal size paper is. It also makes scanning a bunch of small things all at once a snap. The setup was pretty standard and straight-forward for me and using it is intuitive. I've used it for a week and I haven't had any problems with paper jams or anything. It is a great printer that is built to be a workhorse for any small office.

The print quality is impressive and having it be loaded with enough ink for a year is a big relief and nice touch. Despite all its great features, installation was easy. Plug it in and the touchscreen guides you through the full setup. It takes less than 15 minutes to configure and be up and running. The scanner is a very useful feature as I can get all my office printing/scanning needs done on one device. My business does not have a fax number but it's an available feature. I have not had to print more than a few pages at a time, but it's reassuring to know that I can print up to 30 pages a minute. I look forward to making flyers and other marketing material as the quality is definitely professional-grade!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive quality! This is by far the nicest all-in-one printer I’ve ever owned! I was a little intimidated when I saw it, but it was actually very easy to set up. You just plug it in and the LCD screen walks you through everything you need to do to get it set up. 10 minutes later I had everything configured and ready to use. There is a bottom drawer that holds blank paper for landscape printing, and a back tray for portrait (vertical) printing. It can accommodate multiple paper and envelope sizes. The print quality is excellent and the speed is unbelievable. The scanning function works very well also. I’m able to print from my PC and from my phone with the WiFi connection. I would say this is a professional quality printer and it comes with very large ink cartridges. I shouldn’t need to buy ink for a very long time. It’s a great addition to my home office!

It’s honestly a bit more printer than we need but we know it will fill all our needs and last for many years of use. The initial setup was easy but getting it connected to all the computers took a little work. I like how it can connect directly to an iPhone as well.

I am able to print 30 pages per minute in color or Black and White. The ink is another big PLUS as the reservoir holds enough ink to last months or maybe even a year! The printer attached to my wifi wirelessly though you can hardwire. It prints or scans to the cloud so you are able to save easily. The touch screen is easy to use. The MFC has a 50 sheet feeder for my longer projects. All this and the ability to print copy and scan makes it the machine to have. Covered with Brother's two year warranty makes this the printer to buy

The scan function is important to me and was the reason why I made the purchase in the first place. Many, many agonizing attempts to scan more than a page wasted hours and hours of my time. I ended up paying Staples to use their scanners instead of using this machine that I owned! Nasty customer service too. I called to find out what the warranty was and was informed that I would have to spend more time with customer service before they would tell me the the timeframe for the period of warranty and resultions offered ( refund, repair, replace). I hope that Brother made a recording of that call. I figured out on my own that this machine will not scan certain heavier papers. Maybe that had something to do with the malfunctioning. This heavy, bulky printer has been replaced by the Brother predecessor it was supposed to replace. It is now out of my office awaiting the garbage truck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not what I wanted I went into the store (Office Max in Cape Coral, FL) and asked for a printer that you don't have to keep buying cartridges for, i.e. the ones that you can fill with a bottle. The assistant manager took me over to Brother MFC. We had just moved into our new home, so I didn't open up the box for about 20 days. Once I opened it up, I noticed it's not what I had asked for. I went back to the store and the Manager told me it's to late for me to return it. He said it was over 15 days. The back of the slip said I was within the time frame to return it. He says his policy is 15 days. Then NO RETURNS allowed. This machine is so loud when it prints out anything. Jamed twice on me already.

There is an option use the 250-sheet capacity paper tray or the 100-sheet multipurpose tray to print on envelopes or other specialty papers. I can also copy, scan and fax multiple pages thanks to the 50-page capacity automatic document feeder. Overall, an impressive and effective all in one device!

It prints fast and at high quality and doesn’t seem to be powering through it’s ink like my previous Hp printer. I was a little wary of getting one this large but have found plenty of a3 Scans I needed to make. It also has the best app and AirPrint connection I have seen and I have not had a single issue with that yet. Highly highly recommend taking a look at this one!

Have alignment issues printing from HTML images so I import to pdf. Printed on cardstock without any issues. Have had several erroneous paper jam notices. The printer meets my expectations for my anticipated applications.

The biggest problem was download all the startup and other programs it needed. It took nearly 4 hours and I don't think that was all my connection.

With the wireless connectivity, alone, it has made it so much easier and faster for me to complete all of my printing and scanning needs. I have not yet made use of the oversized paper feature, but have enjoyed the ability to print onto a variety of sized surfaces, including paper and envelopes. I feel like I made several leaps forward from my old Brother printer to this one and am very pleased.

I have given up on competing manufacturers who are really just trying to sell me something that will generate future revenue for them. Brother knows what the customer actually wants, kudos to them!! After spending hours trying to get a competing (and more expensive) HP product to scan the way I wanted it to, I returned it in despair and bought this Brother as a last ditch effort. Within 10 minutes, I had it all working perfectly, I may be a lifetime Brother user from now on! Printing is fast and I think the image quality is great. For consumers who want to have control over how the product works and be able to interface with a variety of scanning options, this is perfect.

It was under warranty so we shipped it back. What we got as a replacement was a REFURBISHED printer. If a NEW printer broke down in less than 2 months, why did Brother send us a refurbished one? Don't we rate a new printer? It's working ok but not as good as the new one.

I called within a couple weeks of purchase and was told to box it up and send it back. My health issues have not allowed me the time or energy to deal with this. So frustrating!

So when I was looking for a new printer with wide paper capability (Ledger/A3), going with another Brother was an easy decision. I am not disappointed at all! I am not printer large format all the time so having the regular letter in the front paper tray and the ledger paper in multipurpose back tray works perfect for me. The touchscreen panel is very bright and easy to use. The scan function with the ADF is fast as well as the printing. I can not comment on the Fax as I don't use it. It's wired connected on my home network. The only surprised I got it's the size! I bought it online and did pay attention to the dimensions but it's a large printer that take some space. Fortunately, it fits perfectly in my home office and you get a lot of printer for your money. Highly recommended if you need a wide format printer/copy/scanner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent inkjet printer for home or small office Brother knocked it out the park with this printer. Took all of ten minutes to get it setup and running on my network. Prints full page no border pics quick (they come out pretty good). If you pay attention to the instructions you should have no problem getting it and ready to go. Brother has a few videos prepared to walk you threw the setup as well if you don't like reading instructions. Looking at the size of the unit you would think that it was pretty heavy but it isn't. You definitely want a extra set of hands available when getting it out of the box. I was able to do it but I have a pretty big wing span so it wasn't that much of a issue. Straight forward instructions so it should be a breeze getting up and running. The 11x17 is a huge improvement over the regular 8.5x11 scanning bed. The document feeder will handle the large size format as well so huge bonus there as well. If you run a small business this printer should be on your short list or if you find yourself needing to print large format you should be good to go. Did I mention this thing is kinda huge? It takes up a bit more space than your average ink jet printer so make sure you have a place for it. The tanks are a great idea and we'll see if they last a year. I normally don't print that much but I am going to make it a point to print some photos now and give it a workout. I don't foresee a issue in that department though. This Brother MFC-J6555DW is a great printer for a home or small business. As long as it lasts and the ink holds out for close to the predicted period of time it should be a nice addition to the fold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difficulty with paper feeding and recognition There is a lot that is nice about this printer, and it is definitely better than others, but it constantly is pulling multiple pages through and not recognizing the paper size I have in my tray as matching. I have done all of the online troubleshooting and have been on with customer service, and it seems they don't really have a solution. The problems are intermittent, which is frustrating when printing a bigger job.

I use it on a wireless network and it does not often lose connection. It seems to be very economical on ink too! I don't really print pictures but the color is crisp in my documents. I would definitely recommend this for a home office.

I found my previous Brother to be a five star and because the paper tray settings have been so fussy, I would not purchase this model again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent in most ways Pros: * Printing is fairly crisp. * Printing/scanning lighting fast. * Smooth paper handling, esp, with the scanner's automatic document feeder (much better than my previous Brother printer, an earlier iteration of this design). * Excellent functionality with 11 x 17 pages, which few printers this size can handle. * Paper trays are very handy when you regularly alternate between paper sizes. Cons: * Brother ink goes very quickly if you print with any kind of volume. I need to print 500-1,000 pages (with text and images) per month and used half my "1-year" ink supply in 3 weeks. * Printer ink does not fully cure, so if you have to mark and erase on printed pages (with pencil or erasable pen), the printer ink smudges terribly AND it mucks up your eraser, spreading smudges elsewhere if you don't clean it after each erasure. If you work in publishing and use this printer for page proofs, as I do, this is a major flaw.

Overall, I like this printer a lot when it comes to printing, copying, and scanning (not using the fax option) as it supports letter-sized documents as well as legal-sized (and A4 and A3, too). Due to this unique capability, the printer is quite huge is size, and also quite heavy. The only "shortcoming" is the lack of support of the automated document feeder as it only supports single-sided documents. If you want to scan and or copy/fax two-sided documents, that would need to be done manually. Giving is 5 stars for the fast speed of good-quality printing, copying, and scanning in various document sizes.

If you need to scale a document to print, the mobile app will not work & the control panel on the printer does not have the option either. You need to have a computer to scale a document. Unfortunately I don’t own a computer. I need to scale documents to 100% for printing sewing patterns. I contacted support and they said this function will not ever be supported on mobile. Bummer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Annoying auto functions Not a bad printer, however our old printer could be connected via LAN and wifi at the same time. This one is limited to one or the other. Big downside for us. We had to get USB wifi adapters for the computers that were previously connected to it via LAN. Also, it's extremely annoying that it tries to auto detect what you put in there and changes the paper size on it's own. I have it clearly set for Letter and portrait but if I put something in it doesn't like then it changes it on it's own to executive landscape. It's honestly a hassle. We wouldn't buy this printer again if we had to.
