The spam filter and other features work well. How has it helped my organization? Barracuda Email Security Gateway helps me filter many emails each day. The tool for sending emails is easy to configure. In my company, we send a high volume of emails daily. Barracuda system is useful. What is most valuable? The most valuable feature is the spam filter. What needs improvement? Barracuda should have a sandbox feature in the appliances. That's the only thing missing. In my company, we have four appliances, and we have to use a third-party brand for sandboxing. Moreover, sometimes phishing emails still pass through, which is a drawback. I would say it's about 80% to 90% effective. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with this solution for seven years. We have deployed it on VMware. Moreover, we are using Barracuda Email Security Gateway 400. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Stability is a ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I rate the scalability of Barracuda an eight out of ten. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was easy. I had to change all the appliances in the past due to a hardware refresh, but configuring the new appliances was easy. What was our ROI? It's a good investment. We've seen a significant return on investment. What other advice do I have? In my opinion, I only have experience with Barracuda so I might recommend it. But, I would suggest exploring other options as well, like Microsoft, to have a better understanding. Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten. The solution helps manage both inbound and outbound email. It prevents email phishing, spam attacks, and major attacks, securing email communication against various threats, including social engineering and compromised addresses. It has multiple features to prevent the user from being the victim of attacks. What needs improvement? Barracuda does not provide support for DMARC for outgoing emails. DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance. For troubleshooting it at the core, We have to open a separate support to provide accessibility to the IT team, facilitating engineers to get into it and offer support. We have to establish a separate support tunnel at the customer site to make it accessible to the cloud, allowing the tagged engineers, potentially situated in another country, to provide remote support to the customers. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Barracuda Email Security Gateway for two and a half years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The product is stable. After three or four years, you can switch the hardware. When a new technology becomes available or the existing hardware needs an upgrade, they replace the customer's hardware box with a new one without additional charges. Barracuda does not charge extra for deploying the new boxes or for replacement. The best feature is their box is refreshed after some time according to their hardware renewal policies. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is very scalable. We deployed the solution on different company and customer sites. We’ve around nine to ten customers using the solution. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? FortiMail Security Gateway is far better than Barracuda Email Security Gateway. Barracuda’s reporting feature allows you to locate particular logs and issues. The solution analyzes the issue if an email is not received at the recipient site. It also monitors email in the queue. FortiMail is difficult to handle from a reporting perspective. You have to dig deep into the logs to understand why a specific email is not being sent or received. How was the initial setup? The initial setup and configuration are straightforward. It requires no MF records to be enabled. The platform provides two distinct interfaces for easy domain and IP address management with blacklisting and whitelisting capabilities. To configure the system, you must set up SMTP servers, mail servers, and email addresses, enabling various security features such as anti-phishing, antivirus, content deployment, email reconstruction, etc. It is very simple to configure and use. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The solution is cheaper than FortiMail. What other advice do I have? I have deployed one box on-site but also provided support for deployed boxes in many customer sites, Government sites, and private sectors. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten. It can effectively combat phishing attacks, block spam, provide confirmation, and ensure operational manageability with a strong focus on product stability. What needs improvement? The pricing needs improvement. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Barracuda Email Security Gateway for the past ten years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I would rate the stability nine out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I would rate it eight out of ten. How are customer service and support? There are occasional delays in their response. They do not always reply on time. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral How was the initial setup? We often encounter challenges because each customer has unique network configurations, security hardening requirements, and specific solutions. This includes migrations and email address configurations, which need to be updated periodically to stay in line with the solution. Regarding deployment, I believe we can complete a few files quickly, but the implementation phase will require more time. What about the implementation team? We consistently monitor service support to handle various customer services, and we have a team of five individuals responsible for managing different customers. Barracuda Email Security Gateway is a good product, though it is a bit expensive. Barracuda Email Security Gateway's AI and threat detection methods are good, though the product doesn't provide much archiving features. I even recommend Barracuda Email Security Gateway to others, and if I have money, I will go for it, but when I am running a business, I need to look at what is good for business and make profits. What needs improvement? The downsides of the solution stem from the fact that it is an expensive product, and one may see too many false positives when using it, making them both areas where improvements are required. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Barracuda Email Security Gateway for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a very stable solution. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? In terms of scalability, I can say it is an okay solution. Barracuda Email Security Gateway offers good AI functionalities, but sometimes, in my company, we have seen a lot of false positives with the product. How are customer service and support? I have experience interacting with the technical support team of Barracuda Email Security Gateway, and in my opinion, they are very efficient. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten. I decided to move from Fortinet to Barracuda since the latter provides me with the AI functionalities I need. My company tried the trial version offered by Barracuda, which is expensive, so we decided to look at Libraesva, which is an affordable product that has the AI functionalities I need. I think Libraesva is the best product in the market right now based on my experience and the product I currently use in my company. How was the initial setup? The initial setup of the product was straightforward. The solution is deployed on an on-premises model. The solution can be deployed in half a day. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? Barracuda Email Security Gateway is a bit expensive or costly product. I rate the price of Barracuda Email Security Gateway a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price. Which other solutions did I evaluate? During the evaluation process in my company, we considered Clearswift against Barracuda Email Security Gateway. My company found out that Clearswift also lacks AI functionalities, just like Fortinet, so we decided not to work with it. What other advice do I have? With Barracuda Email Security Gateway, I feel that its AI functionalities are good, but there were too many false positives. Now I understand that it's more about hardfail than softfail, so you need to understand that certain configurations are not done properly. Even though certain emails don't pass the security check and Barracuda blocks it, it may get through and cause a bit of difficulty for the company. I rate the overall product an eight out of ten. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great message tracking and messaging logs but has a complex setup What is our primary use case? We primarily use the solution for email security. What is most valuable? The solution is largely stable. It can scale. Overall, it has been working fine without issue. The message tracking and messaging logs have proven to be quite useful. What needs improvement? The initial setup can be a little bit complex. When we implemented Barracuda three years back, although the deployment went smoothly, we also needed to implement some changes regarding the configuration, which were affecting the stamp control rate. Some options were not so easy to remember and we had to search for directions. For example, if I want to change the mail flow settings, there are two different options available in Barracuda. If I apply a change on one option and didn't change the configuration on the other option, the mail flow doesn't work. Yet the second option is always hidden. I always need to search for it when I need to change some mail flow settings. For how long have I used the solution? I've used the solution for more than three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The product is stable. Sometimes some spamming issues occur, however, we manage to control those after making some changes. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have a model that supports 5,000 users. We currently have 3,500 users. We have room to scale. The solution does work fine with a large number of users. How are customer service and support? I administer the solution and provide troubleshooting and issue resolution as required. The support from Barracuda is pretty good overall when I reach out. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? I have an experience with Barracuda Email Security, Microsoft Exchange, and Microsoft Defender. How was the initial setup? The initial setup and implementation process is complex. It is not exactly easy. I'd rate it 2.5 out of five in terms of ease of setup. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The pricing is moderate. It was neither cheap nor expensive. I'd rate the cost 3.5 out of five in terms of affordability. What other advice do I have? We're a Barracuda customer. We are using virtual appliances, not the cloud version of the solution. That said, we do plan to move to the cloud. While we are not planning to change Barracuda, we are planning to improve Barracuda after purchasing the cloud solution. Our plan is to enhance our email security when we integrate our appliance with the Barracuda Cloud solution. I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. Some of the exposed emails were not blocked by our Barracuda clients. Although we have engaged the principal, and they helped troubleshoot and tweak some configurations, it's still an issue. We still face some exposed emails delivered to our management level. I'd advise potential new users that if they plan to implement Barracuda, they should find someone knowledgeable in implementations. They need someone who will follow best practices and understand procedures laid out in the documentation. After configuration and implementation, there may still be some fine-tuning required. Barracuda protects you from spam and email-based threats like phishing. It also provides backup and web security. We have around 600 users. How has it helped my organization? My current company had no product before Barracuda. We get a lot of added value from the various things it does, ranging from advanced threat protection and spam filtering to protection from viruses and email spoofing. It also features cloud-to-cloud backup. What is most valuable? The feature that sets Barracuda apart from other solutions is the Office 365 cloud-to-cloud backup. What needs improvement? The UI could be a little cleaner and require less clicking around in different modules. They give the illusion of a single pane of glass, but as you click around to different products, you're actually being transferred into a different system. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I've never seen Barracuda go down. It seems like a highly stable product. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Barracuda is fully scalable. It's an enterprise solution that can handle a few hundred boxes to millions. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Over the past decade and a half, I have used various products. I worked with Mimecast, targeted threat protection for seven of the last 12 years, and used ATP for four of the previous seven. In the last 12 months, I went to Barracuda because they have an online backup system for our Office 365 tenant as an add-on. It's a package that you get with spam protection, and it's cost-effective. Barracuda offers a suite of services similar to what Mimecast includes and backup retention, which is crucial for the Office 365 environment. How was the initial setup? Setting up Barracuda is straightforward. I usually pay a nominal fee for their deployment services, and they help us get off the ground. You can deploy in under two hours. I got deployment included for free, but I think it's normally something like $2,500 or something. My entire team is three people, so it doesn't take a lot of effort to maintain. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We're paying around $49,000 for a year for 600 users. What other advice do I have? I rate Barracuda Email Security Gateway as a solid nine out of 10. Their spam protection is excellent, but the UI could be better. Their ATP and threat protections are great. I would give them a 10, but the UI requires just enough extra clicks to annoy me. When you're setting up Barracuda, make sure you're asking all the right questions about setting up your DMARC and DKIM. We're using the Email Security Gateway, however, I'm not sure about the cloud, or the archive capabilities. It's a new system for me. How has it helped my organization? Email security has been quite helpful. It acts as a protector, especially for the inbound emails every day. I can see if there are a lot of phishing emails or scam emails being blocked by the system. That's very important for the company. The organization is so big, and with so many emails coming in, having it as the first line of defense is great. What is most valuable? The interface is good, and it offers good integrations. The solution offers very good email security. It protects us from spam and scam emails. It offers good visibility of any potential threats trying to enter the system. The initial setup should be straightforward. It is cloud-based. So far, the solution has been stable. We find the product to be scalable. What needs improvement? The pricing is a little bit high, and it is causing the company to rethink renewal. If they could lower the pricing, that would be ideal. For how long have I used the solution? I'm still pretty new to the solution. I haven't used it for that long. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I haven't heard of the term having issues with reliability. It is stable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Barracuda is good at keeping the garbage from reaching your inbox. What needs improvement? Barracuda isn't catching everything. We're still getting quite a few phishing emails, so we're looking for something else. For how long have I used the solution? We used on-prem Barracuda for a couple of years, and now we're on the cloud. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I haven't had any stability issues so far. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have 160 email boxes, so we're not a huge company. Barracuda scalable enough for our needs. How are customer service and support? It checks for any EXEs and the like, checking the email contents to allow or stop those. We also use the solution for archiving and backups. How has it helped my organization? From a security point of view, Barracuda Email Security improved our mail environment. Other than that, its backups are valuable. What needs improvement? The dashboard's UI could be improved to make changes to the blocklist. We currently have to go into the mail and check the list and the dashboard, and it would be better if we could directly block particular domains or emails instead. For how long have I used the solution? I've used this solution for almost four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? Barracuda has been stable till now. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? We have 100 users using Barracuda Email Security Gateway. How are customer service and support? Barracuda's technical support is fine. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We used to have FortiMail, and we migrated to Barracuda. Barracuda is much more effective than FortiMail. Barracuda handles spam better. What about the implementation team? An integrator handled the initial setup. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? We find the solution's pricing okay. What other advice do I have? Our management wants to migrate to E5 from E3 and says we don't need Barracuda Email Security. However, we are unsure if E5 will have the same features as Barracuda. I recommend Barracuda, and from a security point of view, I would rate it a nine out of ten. It didn't let any EXEs or phishing emails through. We use the solution to protect our email, domain, and users against spear phishing, spamming, malware, and malicious attacks regarding attachments and URLs. What is most valuable? The most valuable features are filtering and rate controlling. They are good and are required to avoid having low IP, email, and domain reputations. What needs improvement? Sometimes, Barracuda Blacklist blocks the general IP list from the source domains. They block the genuine sources, too. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using Barracuda Email Security Gateway as an integrator for two years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The product is 100% stable. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The solution is very much scalable. We have ten customers in the Middle East and five customers in India. How are customer service and support? The customer support is very good compared to other solutions. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? We’ve used Mimecast before. We had a support issue that we couldn't resolve. Barracuda offered a more scalable and cost-effective solution with the features and support we needed. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is very easy, compatible to manage, and takes a maximum of three hours to complete. Since we are using MP65, we procure the SaaS model. We generally follow the same process for SaaS to deploy the solution. What was our ROI? We’ve already invested 100 Euros, roughly 10lakh rupees, and received 30-50% ROI. What other advice do I have? I recommend the solution, especially for email security, load balancing, and journaling. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten. The solution is directly used as a email service for inbound and outbound protection and as a spam gateway. When issues of spam are reported to the company then we can suggest Email Security Gateway for the customer. What is most valuable? Barracuda Email Security Gateway has features like identify the spam source, rules to avoid some specific spams and then reschedule. And there are some other features like the email continuity, the email server and gateway site, which can relay the mail kit. The solution is user-friendly.These kind of features are the most valuable. What needs improvement? Barracuda could improve its log and export options like PDF and HDML. It can also bring in more detailing in their console so that it could be better. Some new features should be expanded and made accessible for better protection. For how long have I used the solution? I have experience Barracuda Email Security Gateway. What do I think about the stability of the solution? It is a stable solution when the factory provides the the application access. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is a scalable solution as it is hosted in the cloud. How are customer service and support? The price in the USA is less than where we are. Our local distributor of the solution is manipulating the market. The price of the solution can range from €6,000 to €23,000. The on-premise version is expensive. However, if it is on the cloud the price is better. I rate the price of Barracuda Email Security Gateway a six out of ten. The price is approximately 30 percent more than others on the market. What other advice do I have? If the solution is configured correctly then the maintenance is low. We are able to check the solution for our customers. We use two people for the maintenance if needed. I would recommend this solution to others. It extracts messaging for us. Thanks to Barracuda Email Security Gateway, I have seen increases in productivity and functionality in terms of spam reduction and filtering against different threats, which is a benefit by default. What is most valuable? The things I find valuable are how it is easy to maintain and its seamlessness. I cannot say it's better or worse than any other solution, but I have no issues with it as it does what it needs to do. What needs improvement? I have noticed that it takes a little time to get familiar with after deploying and some tweaks need to be done as things come up. For how long have I used the solution? I have been using this solution for three years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? We've had a couple of issues pop up over the three years but they were resolved within 15 minutes. One issue that wasn't critical took around a day to resolve. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I would rate the scalability of this solution a 10, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best. Currently, there are about 175 users of this solution in our company. How are customer service and support? I would say that their customer service is quite good. You will always be able to get someone on the line whenever you call. How was the initial setup? I would say the initial setup was super simple and quick. It takes a couple of hours to deploy. After that, you're up and running. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? I would say that this solution is more expensive than the competitors. What other advice do I have? I would rate this solution a 10, on a scale from one to 10, with one being the worst and 10 being the best. Barracuda Email Security Gateway has been fine for our use case.
