Next-Generation SANs for Today’s Infrastructure
The newest addition to QLogic’s award-winning SANbox® 5000 Series unleashes powerful data access possibilities for small to large enterprise customers. SANbox 5800V stackable switches offer IT managers the best choice to increase the value and impact of current storage investments while preparing for known and unknown competitive business requirements tomorrow.
The SANbox 5800V is backwards-compatible with 4Gb and 2Gb devices and optics, and may be deployed as either an 8Gb or a 4Gb switch.
Four included 10Gb stacking ports provide more than 50Gb additional bandwidth per switch – the equivalent of six extra 8Gb ports at no charge!
At their default 10Gb setting, these ports offer more than enough bandwidth for most SANs, particularly in mixed 8Gb/4Gb environments. Every 8Gb device port remains available for storage and server connections, minimizing hardware costs and completely eliminating complex re-cabling and associated user downtime as your network scales.
With the optional 20Gb non-disruptive upgrade, the same stacking ports provide over 100Gb bandwidth per switch – the equivalent of 12 extra 8Gb ports. Since 20Gb uses the same low-cost stacking cables as 10Gb, this upgrade allows you to double the speed of your inter-switch fabric (the most performance-critical part of the SAN) with the click of a mouse! Try doing that with a conventional non-stacking switch!
Best of all, there’s no need to pay for the 20Gb bandwidth until you need it.
