Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup I have been using Netgear Smart pro Switches for over ten years. The switch was easy for me to set up even though I am not an IT professional. I was able to set up a home and office network including FTP server, NAS, print server, graphic workstation and home networking without the need for technical support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware - These are insecure switches For home use and with no concern about your network being compromised, then this switch should be more than sufficient. However, for any business - stay away. Just because something is https:// doesn't mean it's secure. These devices only support SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 "secure" connectivity (which is the equivalent of WEP security for WiFi. TLS 1.2 has been around since 2008 and these devices still do not support it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null The Netgear - GS724T smartSwitch has turned out to be a very useful switch. We do not have a large company (less than 50 users) and thus do not have very high throughput. I've had no issues with the switch over the past several years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null Have had this switch in operation for about 3 years now - had to replace the fan after about a year and it needs to be reset every so often to keep the web interface operating - but all in all a very good gigabit switch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great QUIET layer 2 switch ....and i haven't heard anyone say anything about the best part of this switch, "QUIET". It doesn't make a sound. Every other switch screams away all day and all night trying to cool itself...not this one. The bonus is that it's also been running for over a year without so much as a hiccup. Now i wonder why all the other switches need those noisy fans. It's a shame that the only thing creating a ton of racket in a server room these days are the dang switches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null Like Stephen2000 I'm running a stack of the GS724TPS. Very easy to set up and very reliable once they're going. The full port PoE is a brilliant feature and they also come with auto Voice-VLAN. We're running our IP phone system of these and all calls are routed flawlessly through the VLANs while the data traffic isn't touched. For the money, you can't get better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null We have a number of Netgear GS724T V2 switches. The problem with the V2 model is erratic and poor throughput when multicasting (e.g. ghosting a lab full of PCs). Speeds vary from 12MB to 500MB per minute, often stabilising at just 80MB per minute. I have reported the matter to Netgear but they keep on closing the case??? Incidentally, this issue was resolved in the Netgear GS724T V3 model. UPDATE: The Netgear GS724T V2 switches do not support proper multicasting. The local distributor replaced most of these models at no cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null Just a heads up... From Netgear support: Port Mirroring can only be disabled with a reboot. They weren't able to tell me if 6.3.1.11 firmware fixes that...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Older than even last years technology This switch sounds great on paper until you install it and realize you just paid todays prices for a switch from 2013. Most of the configuration is using an outdated web page that is very limited in functionality. If you want to play with per port settings, find an old browser that allows java plugins. There is not any alternatives, and the manufacturer doesn't seem interested in updating the management UI to actually be usable by modern browsers. This whole thing would not bother me much if they were transparent about it in their sales material and did not try to make it sound like this can compete with modern technology.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for home use, insecure for business Great for an enterprise-like environment at home, but not for an actual enterprise environment. For some reason, the device only supports SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0, nothing higher. Think about that - here's an enterprise level switch that's still being actively sold and priced as a business solution - and completely insecure. At least their home WiFi product line offers better security.
