Rated 5 out of 5 by from 11 x 17 printer that does not scan 11 x 17 This is unbelievable that you design and built a 11 x 17 printer that does not scan 11 x 17. I am an architect that works in 11 x 17 format through all design processes. I am dumb founded that you can only scan 8 1/2 x 14. I need to exchange this ASAP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product! I like the large printing/scanning option (8x14) and that the HP app allows editing on scanned documents. It's working great so far and produces great image quality. The only cons are the loud grating noise when scanning on the glass, and the guidance on the top of the printer does not secure a straight document scan. I try to hold the guide to get it as straight as possible, but it's often is slightly crooked or has a line on the side which is a bit frustrating as I do a lot of scanning. The HP app does allow for editing which helps. It also grabs documents easier if they are broken up into small stacks, not to capacity. Overall, despite the small issues I found, the all-in-one works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lines on Print For the price, it's nice to have this behemoth to do all sorts of things for you, and the setup is easy. However, I got this to make color prints where quality matters, and on full ink, it constantly has lines across the page. Will be returning. If just for simple home/office use, go for it! But if you're looking for quality prints, this ain't it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printer is Not Compatible with US Inks This printer was a waste of money. As soon as we ran out of ink and tried to replace it, we discovered that the printer was not compatible with 'our region' and therefore not of the inks we could purchase in the US would work with the printer. After waiting on hold for an HP technician, we were told that the pro=inter required an update patch which needed to be done from a PC. Since we are an office on Mac, we were unable to update the software and therefore the printer is unusable. It is brand new and we cannot use it. We have tried to return to to HP with no response. I will never purchase another HP product again and I certainly do not recommend this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great but I purchased this with the thought it had a ink plan like my 8610, when it came I realized that I was mistaking, however it prints beautifully and allows me to create large prints and documents.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EZ setup My only complaint is the disk that came with printer was out of date. The setup disk did send you to the internet for the set. 7740 prints very nice photos and of course the black and white txt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not too bad... I have only used this a couple of times as I do not print 11 x 17 much. However what I have done has been very clear. I bought this specifically for 11 x 17 floor plans and it seems to be a great choice. Set up wasn't as smooth as I hoped but I have some Geek in me and I adjusted a couple of things and she works just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP OJ Pro 7740 great versatility, some drawbacks Overall, I'm quite pleased with the 7740. The "wide-format" refers to maximum page size up to 11 inches wide, 17 inches long. I've already found several projects where the larger paper size will be of great benefit. I often prepare charts, diagrams, and sometimes schematics. The added real estate allows me to improve readability of project by spreading things out a little, adding more detail, and/or using larger font sizes. Too this printer can print to smaller sheets, even envelopes. A couple of drawbacks that I have noticed...the scanner's ADF scans up to 8 1/2" wide documents and is one-sided only. To scan fronts and backs, the document to be scanned must be ran through the scanner twice. The other drawback is that the printer's blue ink is not as true blue as I would like. Other HP printers I have used print a much bluer blue. I am very pleased with the printer. It is fast. Produces generally great results. I'm hoping for several years of service from it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One year later .....still great I've had this printer for just over a year with absolutely no problems at all. It took a few tries to figure out how the tabloid paper was supposed to be loaded in the bottom tray vs. feeding it, and it still takes some time figuring out some of the scanning features, but that's more user training than the printer itself. I love the ease of use overall, the wireless capability and how easy it is to print to it right from my phone. Only con is that it is larger and heavier than most printers these days, but it is very well made!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointed in this product. I am very disappointed in this product. I called HP Support and asked for a current Model that would be the same Wide Format as my previous OfficeJet 7610 and today I just realized it does not have the same wide format features. I use the wide format to create maps and the OfficeJet 7610 supported the 13"x19" paper this Officejet 7740 does not support this paper. When I talked to HP Support they recommended the OfficeJet 7740 that it be would the same as my previous model Officejet 7610. If I have the option I would purchase a model that could support the 13"x19" paper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! I must be one of the lucky ones, or those who wrote bad reviews were just trying to make HP look bad. But seriously, despite reading several bad reviews on this printer, I went ahead and purchased this printer because I have never had a bad HP printer. This one does not let me down. I bought just for the wide format so that I could print legible CAD drawings of the custom wood furniture I build. Having good working plans is the first step in building a successful piece of furniture. After having used this printer for a few weeks and printed multiple sets of plans, I am more than satisfied with the quality of the printed plans. Thanks, HP, for another winning computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from incomplete features Silly to have a printer that will print up to 11 x17 but only copy up to 81/2 x 14. Have also have to reinstall the driver 3 times in the past 2 months. Other than that it functions appropriately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Printer I Love this printer. I bought it to replace a Officejet 7610 which I also love, but the scanner stopped working. My only complaint is the cost of replacing the ink cartridges. A cool $150.00 to replace all the cartridges. More than half the cost of the printer. HP shame on you for over charging the consumer on the ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer with lots of features. I bought this printer just over four weeks ago, and so far it has been great. I like being able to use letter, legal, and even tabloid size paper in it. The only thing that would make it better is if it was included in the Instant Ink program.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Auto Document Feeder for 11x17 Overall, this printer is good. I have been buying HP printers for over 30 years (and periodically have tried other manufacturers) and it is the typical quality printer with good features and was ultimately why I leaned to this printer over others. I own an Architectural firm and our biggest reason for selecting this printer (over others) was for the 11x17 copying, scanning and printing. However, to my mistake, I failed to read the auto document feature size was only 8.5"x17. This is where I think HP failed miserably. Why would they market and sell an 11x17 printer and not have all the features available for all the sizes of paper it can support, which is why I was dumbfounded when I went to copy and scan multiple 11x17 sheets and couldn't without placing one sheet at a time on the flat bed. Other manufacturers have 11x17 auto document feeders and this is why I give a 3 star. Very disappointed in this printer and with HP and will be buying another manufacturer's 11x17 printer that has an 11x17 auto document feeder. Trying to return this printer, but missed my return window. Another frustrating issue was the scan software defaults to 8.5" x 17" so when you scan 11x17 on the flat bed, you have to fight the software to save to 11x17 and there were a couple times it took me 5 minutes plus to get the software to scan and save an 11x17. HP - You have disappointed me for the first time in all my years of buying your products. Maybe i'll be back if you can fix that ADF.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not worth the money The second tray is pointless, as it can only hold plain paper and cannot print borderless from the second tray. Also, the pages per minute is way off of the 17ppm for color, it states. It took 3 hours to print 100 sheets of color pages.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer Everything hooked up well (USB) but as usual with HP printers, the installation procedure does not match the printed instructions. Rated 5 out of 5 by from All OK but no scan to BW PDF function Replacing 8600 premium as I need ledger size prints. So far so good. Installation a breeze but I do a lot of scanning of receipts and text pages. The 8600 premium had a scan function that was SCAN to BW PDF. The 7740 only has SCAN to COLOR PDF so now all of my scan files are 3 to 4X the size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value, great features I love that this printer has two paper trays for two sizes of paper. Having one printer means buying one size of ink cartridges instead of two and takes up less space in my office. I am amazed at this printer's price as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide Format is worth the investment Easy set-up and install. Two paper trays. Multiple options on the scan function. The first attempt at each scan - message: there was a problem... So the scan usually works the second attempt. Sometimes a number of multiple pages must be scanned in 2 installments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from printer works well printer is great. Need lots of 11x17 prints and printer works well. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the two trays! I bought this two weeks ago when my old wide-format HP printer died. It came right after my laptop died. It was really easy to install on my husband's computer, which is located on a different floor. When my new computer came, I installed it completely on mine. I just wish it came with a more comprehensive user's guide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Sure I Understand the Point of This Printer I'm disappointed. I got this printer yesterday. It WILL NOT print #10 envelopes straight! What printer can't print envelopes? Also, it has a massive 12' x 17" glass scan top, but ONLY scans 8.5" x 11. What's the point of that? I'm glad I only spend $179 on this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vastly improved printer I'm a one-person architectural firm, and need good quality larger format printing and scanning - up to 11 x 17. I bought this printer when my 7610 died after 3 years. I grumbled a bit that it only lasted that long, but this new 7740 is such an improvement that I wish I'd upgraded sooner. Print quality is better, both in darkness/contrast and in orientation (no more weirdly skewed prints); scanning is easy; and I can keep both letter and tabloid size paper loaded (although the bottom drawer with tabloid paper won't quite close, that's a minor inconvenience compared to changing the paper feed every time you change paper sizes.) I almost didn't write this review - don't want to jinx myself - but this printer is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why HP.? WHY??????????????????? I bought this planning on printing on card stock. I told the HP sales rep I wanted to print custom sizes on card stock, Had a long detailed discussion about it. I was assured I could . After looking further into the specs and reading reviews, I find out it will not handle anything heavier than 28 bond. WHY HP????? What the heck is wrong with your engineers? We have been asking for Printers that will print 11x17, Custom Sizes and card stock, HP adds a great feature than takes away another. I am calling HP and Canceling the order. Come On HP It can't be that difficult. Do you need to hire some engineers from a competitor?? FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!

I had to waste 2 days to go through these web address to finally connect printer to WIFI. Then 3 days to connect my laptop to printer. I was expecting that "Printer & Scanner Doctor" or other tools, would do this easily and correctly in first attempt, instead giving me an offline message. My expectation from HP was much higher than this experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink Hog, bad power management. Fast, ok quality The unit we have only has options to turn itself off 1,2,4,or 8 hours... I would normally be fine with the printer turning off after a few minutes if it turned itself on when it gets a network signal... but it doesn't... We think the print was sent and started and it fails. This is unacceptable and infuriating because this bug has been existing for about the year that we have had the printer. My friend doesn't turn on the ink saving features, and I'm about to just turn them on for him, but the ink costs are much higher per page than the epson he had previously. The ink hog comment is from the owner. I am hoping that someone from HP will reach out to us and add an option to NOT shut down the network interface, and to make it so the printer powers on when a print job is sent to it. If other people don't have this problem... there is a small chance it is the network switch not passing a signal to the printer... but that's unlikely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was a good printer Purchased this printer for our Church with an extended warranty . The reviews seemed to be in it's favor. After 1 1/2 years comes up with the error that printhead is missing or incorrectly installed. I have tried everything from the HP website. Nothing works. The warranty company did not replace it like it has said they could not find one they gave me $130. Can't even cover the price of a new printhead. Very disappointing. It was a good printer.

It is nice to have a paper tray for the 11x17 and 8.5x11. The fast start instructions were missing but I was able to figure out the setup. connected quite quickly to my wifi.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a printer Prints 11x17, dual paper trays means you don't have to reload for each paper size. Haven't had any problems with jamming. Setup cartridge is lasting MUCH longer than most setup cartridges. Either they are full cartridges, or it uses much less ink than my last printer. Either way it's a good value. FWIW - It does take up a lot of space. Which is should since it handles large paper. But the pics don't really have anything to show you scale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OfficeJet Pro 7740 This is the second Wide format HP I have had. I love them. You can copy any size and in color. Set up is a breeze. It almost installs itself. This one has a second paper tray, which is a nice feature. The only thing I liked better about the first one was the larger control panel. The control panel on the 7740 is smaller and hard to see at some angles. The older version had a larger one that was slanted and easier to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After only one month, no issues. It's only been one month, give or take a few days. Easy to set up, Easy to use. Prints very fast for a home use computer. It's much more expensive than the printers I usually buy, but we finally tired of the typical "Throw Away" home use printer and their consistent failures. I also do a bit of 'Work From Home' computer drafting and need the 11 x 17 size paper capability. We decided to go with a more robust machine and we got one, still, judging within the Home Use category. I would not consider the HP 7740 for an office printer except for a dedicated desk top printer for one user. It's just not powerful enough for what we put our shared printers through at work. We sometimes print 400 to 500 pages of 11 x 17 in a day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wide Format Printer My HP OJP 7740 performs as expected. The only issue I encountered was it wouldn't recognize my 11" x 17" paper for printing. It worked one day, then the next day the problem developed. This was noted on various web comments I had read prior to my purchase but the other manufacturers' equipment had similar types of problems. I contacted HP service to about the problem and the technician initiated a "fix" that resolved my issue. The solution was to select "glossy paper" and not the "plain paper" I had in the tray. To me this sounded like a design flaw, but the printer now works and has been for several weeks without any problems. I would suggest HP look into this issue because I am not the only person to have this situation occur when using this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is an excellent choice multi-function printer, and it is quiet too! I like how quiet this printer operates. When I'm on the phone or during a video conference call, and I need to print a document, there's no need to worry about this printer being disruptive. Also, the wide format is useful for printing larger size documents. Print quality is superior and the printer itself looks fabulous in my home office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low cost but no replacement for a decent laser. This was purchased for a small satellite office. We have a requirement to print 11x17 and is one of the few that will use that size at an affordable cost. That is the high point. It will not scan to e-mail. It will not scan to a UNC path. Most of the advanced features require an always on internet connection which does not work behind my proxy server and firewall. The print speed and quality are acceptable, but nothing to win awards. Only one of the paper cassettes holds a full 500 sheet pack of paper and if you want to put 11x17 in the 2nd paper cassette, it forces you to extend the cassette so it is not contained in the normal footprint of the printer (and it is ugly)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this printer We needed a printer capable of 11 x 17 printing and chose this to replace our older printer. The colors are much brighter than our old all-in-one and we love being able to print on 11 x 17. We also like the single-pass double-sided scanning feature, and being able to scan directly to any computer in our house from the front control panel. If I were to change one thing, I would add a larger display as my eyes are getting old :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not print the way you want it to You would think that a printer that is touting as having borderless properties and image printing capabilities would be able to print according to the margins you set in your software, but apparently this printer likes to take this into it's own hands. You cannot control the margins you set, by default, you will have to modify your images to what the printer wants the margins to be. My address labels which require a specific margin, are automatically set to be half an inch less, because it thinks I want it there, which I don't. My business cards, which require a specific margin are automatically set to be a centimeter to the left and up, rending the result unusable for my needs. This is not a professional printer, and I cannot recommend it's use for what it claims to be able to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love EVERYTHING about it! We bought this printer about a week ago and we're blown away by it so far! The printer quality is awesome as far as the colors of the images and the ability to print 11"×17" (Tabloid) pages is a huge plus! The setup was super easy, and we probably haven't discovered everything about it yet but it's awesome right now. I highly recommend this item, and its price wasn't bad either considering that you would pay a lot more for other printers with the same quality and features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great looking poor scanner While i think this is a great looking machine the scanner is not capable of being fed by the feeder. If you have multiple page scans you must place each page by hand and scan individually. Also, there is no way to save a multi page scan to the PC via wireless - you have to use a memory stick to move the file. Archaic for a machine supposedly designed for business use. lastly, everything fed by the feeder is slightly crooked and i see no way to physically adjust it like on my last HP printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Misled!!!! I recently purchased this Wide Format all-in-one unit. Aside from printing 11 x 17 very slow, the problem was the product description was poor. ...This all-in-one printer has slow 11 x 17 printing, and whose auto feed feature for copying or scanning is only 8 1/2" wide. So a multipage 11 x 17 scan or copy must be manually put on the glass bed one at a time. How ridiculous is that! This was not clear in the description. Most people buying an 11 x 17 All-in-one needs ALL functions to be available for 11 x 17! This unit falls way short. I had to return it and pay $40 for shipping and and 20% restocking fee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast easy printing - letter and tabloid I bought this printer for my home office during HP's January sale. It was incredibly easy to set up and works well for my printing needs. The only drawback I have found is that the tabloid paper drawer is not meant to close all the way - that is how the larger paper size is designed to fit. Therefore the drawer extends out the front of the printer.

This is a wide format printer which has all of the features that I use. It can print up 11 x 17 pages as well as print photos. It is also a great scanner and fax. Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a beast! The printer is rather heavy so be ready for that. It has strong and sturdy construction. Very easy to set up. Easy to connect (I used the ethernet port and gave it a wired connection). the Fax setup is also nice. Ours is connected to the regular phone line we have and the machine has a manual answer mode. That way our callers don't get the annoying fax tone when trying to leave us a message. The print quality is top notch. The one minor complaint I have is the autofeed tray only has an 8.5 inch scanner on it, so if you want two sided scanning of the tabloid paper, you will need to manually do it from the flatbed. Our older brother printer could two side scan tabloid in the autofeed. However the price of that printer is much higher than the HP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Operator, Crisp Prints I needed wide format printing for an upcoming project. My last wide-format stopped working because it was parked beside a brick wall that shed mortar particles all over it. That was an HP, and I'm sorry I subjected it to bad conditions. HOWEVER, this baby is a far better animal. Operates smoothly, duplexes even 11x17 like a charm, is quiet and fast as a mouse, and the two trays (one for standard, the other for 11x17 or 12x19) have really helped speed up my workflow. Terrific addition to the HP Officejet line!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OfficeJet Pro 7740 Printer Purchased to replace an existing HP wide format printer that kept failing print heads. (New design made them very difficult to replace) New 7740 works well, just today it went "Offline" and required me to delete and add print drivers again. Touch screen areas for "copy & scan" functions are smaller and harder to activate. SO far so good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I plug the 7740 and the driver was immediately installed. I did go online and download the complete software. The machine is easy to use and prints well. As noted by another reviewer, not sure why it can scan oversize paper but not print. Otherwise, I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So I Guess You Could Say... not that long ago I was quite happy when I purchased an HP printer that when I plugged it into my laptop it did all the things I needed it to do it printed and if I flip the paper just the right way it would print back to back. Not to mention the fact that working color as well as in black and white, and gave me some quality prints whether I use light draft black and white, or best copy in color. That unit lasted me for several years and only recently did I feel I needed to get a new one. So I went out and bought the 7740 on sale as a matter of fact. And I don't want to say that I don't know why I love the first one so much. But I do want to shout from the rooftops I'm enamored of beyond measure with this new model. Don't have to plug in the cable. Makes wonderful copies in black and white or color. Does front and back printing all by itself. I can print via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth! And the time it takes, or should I say the time it cuts, in my day-to-day work is significantly measurable. So I guess you could say I'm quite happy with this purchase.

Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This printer is junk! I’ve had this for one week and I’ve had issues right out of the box. I’m using a new Mac computer connected to the print by USB. It constantly says the printer is offline or not connected. When I do get it to print it won’t clear the print queue, so it won’t print anything else until you shut it down and unplug it. I’ve unplugged this printer so many times I’ve lost count. Called tech support today and he said it will only print wirelessly with a Mac. Otherwise it will only print 1 page. That seems ridiculous. Why put on the box it is compatible with a Mac. When I told him he was no help and I would be returning it he told me “he really didn’t care”. That’s excellent customer service right there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer I needed this to print for work (at home) and it works great. ONLY THING IS, when you put 11x17 paper in, the tray has to stock out 3-4 inches. Not a deal breaker but costed this review ONE STAR... But other than that, great printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup, great features, picky software Unit works great, delivers quality prints and copies. I have 2 units, one on a windows 10 machine and one on a windows 7 machine. The windows 7 version of the software does not utilize the auto tray management therefore you have to pick which tray you want to use paper from. Also, the flatbed copying can be picky if your copy and paper don't exactly match. Can be worked around though. Overall, great machine for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleased with this product - works for me! I am an old (79) retired architect. Still do small projects out of my home office. This printer allows me to work on drawings that are a great size for an old back (11x17) and print sets without having to go to a print shop. Would recommend it to any one who has a home business. Took some time to be able to use all features - it would help if the control screen (and the size of its messages) was larger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP service I am a HP Rep through a Marketing Service. While working at a Large Member Store I recommended this printer to a Member that needed a large format printer. They do not carry this in the store or online. I know that when one considers the features, price, speed, trays, ink quanity, (952xl, and 956xl), there is NO large format, (up to 11x17), that compares with this printer. The Big Store Member came back to me thrilled, not only with his purchase, but the quality of the Customer Service, and warranty offered. I was just glad to be a part!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unusable driver software - impossible to deploy I bought Photosmart 5180/7180 a decade ago and their HP drivers had the same unbelievable frustrating limitation so that i could only manage to use these printers with Windows/Mac-OS provided drivers and web-scan, but not with HP software. Now i want to buy new printers, looking into officejet 7740 - and the same unbelievable frustrating limitation is still built into the software: I need to be able to install the software on Windows/Mac computers that are not on the same LAN as the printer. The network connection to the printer is of course perfect, i can access the printer via its web interface fine (and with windows/mac drivers it works fine too - they allow to enter IP address for a printer!). But when i start HP Easy Start and enter the IP address into the search field, i get: The 192.168.x.y IP address is not reachable. The IP address you provided is located on a different IP network and cannot be accessed from your Mac. Unbelievable. And that from a company that is selling networking equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent features at a good price Overall I'm quite happy with the quality and the seamless wireless operation of this printer with my Mac, iPad, and iPhone. My only complaints, which has been the case with this machine as well as my 2 previous HP printers: 1) When scanning with the top feed, images are usually skewed somewhat - useable but unprofessional-looking, and 2) When using card stock I can count on the printer to put a slight crimp at the top center of every sheet and it frequently mis-feeds if there's more than 1 sheet. With regular office printing on plain paper, everything looks great and the printer is reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very unhappy! Just purchased this model to replace an older HP printer. Purchased specifically for 11 x 17 paper. Thought it would be great to have two trays so one could have 8-1/2 x 11 (which I put in tray one). However, I cannot get printer to print to tray 2. It does not auto-select the paper size even though I have set up the trays, identifying which size paper is in each. Nor does the driver offer a way to manually select which tray to use. Nor can I find an explanation on-line or get info from HP support! I am ready to return this printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally an affordable wide format fall-in-one I purchased this printer to replace outdated HP9800 wide format and HP8600 Officejet printers due to wireless connection limitations and a failing printhead. This OfficeJet Pro 7700 printer is an effective replacement for both. IT has an 11x17 scanner, and dual trays allowing 8.5 x 11 and 11x17 paper to be ready for use all the time. This is the affordable printer I have been waiting for for more than 20 years. It was easy to set up, and works flawlessly with our home wireless network. Also takes much less desk space than the old printers. Very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Printer I Ever Owned... but... I recently purchased a new HP OJP 7740 when for some strange reason, my 3-year-old OJP 7400 began asking for my "user name" and "pasword" before it would print a job. It also locked me out from re-setting the printer back to the factory default, informing me that I had to contact the administrator who initially installed the printer (which was me!). Then it mysteriously stopped receiving my home wf-fi signal, which made it impossible for me to connect to my Macbook Pro and fix. I contacted HP and was told that the printer was out of warranty, and would cost me $99 to get HP technical support. My old HP 7400 only cost $179 on Amazon, so I didn't want to pay $99 to fix it. I loved this printer so much -- coupled with the fact that I still have about 15 various HP 952XL toner cartridges on hand -- that I ordered a brand new HP OJP 7400 from HP directly. Before that I searched the usual office equipment retailers for this printer, but all were out of stock and I was afraid HP had discontinued this model. I received the new 7400 within two days and set it up with help from 90 minutes phone call with an HP technical support in the Philippines. Thanks to help from the HP tech person, I learned enough to also fix my old HP 7400 using an Ethernet connection to my Macbook Pro. Now I have two of these printers, and I'll keep the old one for back-up. This is truly a great printer, and the only problem I've ever experienced was when the old 7400 started asking me for a user name and password to print a page of paper. Printed pages come out beautifully, and the colors are very realistic. I print a monthly 11" x 17" double-sided newsletter for my Manhattan co-op apartment building, and they always turn out great... and never have a paper jam. Over the years I have recommended the 7400 to a number of friends who need a high-quality and reliable wide-format printer, and all of them have been pleased with their purchases. The fix to my old HP 7400 was very simple with an Ethernet connection, and was certainly not worth $99. My only regret is that HP doesn't provide FREE technical support beyond the 1-year warranty... even to HP shareholders, such as myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Ledger-Tabloid Size Printer I needed an 11x17 printer for my business and this fit the bill. Its only shortcoming is that it will only scan 11x17 documents by placing them under the glass - the document feeder only handles up to 11x14. It is connected wirelessly, which is a plus because I was running out of wired RG45 network connectors. I was able to scan an 11x17 document and maintain its correct scale, which is very important in site plans. It also gets upset if you don't have paper in both trays.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHEN it works, it’s great I spent more than usual on this printer because I was tired of fighting with cheap ones and it’s been nothing but trouble. It regularly goes offline and I have to fight for 30 minutes or more trying to figure out how to get it back. Sometimes it goes offline immediately after printing!! The HP app does nothing to help. If I go to the forum, I get all kinds of tech speak about my router/WiFi. I am not stupid, but I’m not a tech genius either. I just want to be able to print!!! Guess I’ll go back to Canon. What a waste of $300. (Pretty impressed I was able to write this review without swearing!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2 printers failed before first set of cartridges Our 7740 failed before we used half the ink up in the first set of cartridges. HP had us send it back and sent a refurbished printer which had major issues with print quality. We were calling tech support every other use because it would loose connection with the network. Last time we called tech support it was because it wouldn't work with one of the computers on our network. They screwed it up so bad that it wouldn't work with any one of our computers. Then they told me to pay to have someone come out and repair my network. Ended up not being the network so it ended up costing us even more money. Two printers, less than one set of cartridges, all in the trash. Poor technical support, poor print quality, overall just a poor product. We will avoid buying anything from HP again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 11x17 scanning I just purchased this 7740 from Staples and the salesman said one of the benefits of this printer/scanner is that it can scan my 11x17 hand colored originals on the flat bed glass rather than feeding originals through the feeder. He said some complain about the originals getting jammed in the feeder. Wow my hand colored original (many hours of work) getting destroyed in the feeder! Is this correct? I can not afford to lose expensive originals in the feeder. Please confirm about 11x17 color scanning. Thanks, Bob

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straightforward but getting more cumbersome. First and foremost, I come from the standpoint that there is no perfect printer. With that established, here we go. The OJP7740 is large. Even compared to other 11x17 inkjets with ADF heads, it's still large. The onscreen printer settings are pretty straightforward. As is the printer dashboard installed on your PC* Here's the bad side: HP really REALLY wants you to install all the bells and whistles which involves a smart (i.e. monitored) ink subscription. One annoyance when installing the sw is my computers show up 4-5 times on the printer's touchscreen when choosing "scan to such n such computer". This is even with the "basic" sw install. So the once-straightforward software is headed in the wrong direction. The other thing to make not of is the ADF will NOT feed 11x17. If you need to copy the 11x17 sheet you just printed out, you need to use the glass. So far for my people, it's a non-issue. So far. *I've yet to set this up and really work it on a Mac. I suspect it works very much in the same way as my personal OJP. That is, forget the HP software and learn to use the Mac-native Image Capture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from By Far, the Best Printer I've Ever Owned! I bought this printer in November 2016, and have used it daily ever since. I've never had any issues or problems with this printer, unlike most other HP or Apple printers I've owned in the past. The OfficeJet Pro 7740 is a real workhorse, and the 11" x 17" printing format has come in very handy when I need to print out my apartment building's semi-annual newsletters as well as whenever I need to print out large format documents, such as camera settings and appliance installation instructions. Scanning works effortlessly with my Macbook Pro, color copying function and quality is as good as a commercial "Xerox" machine (although a bit slower), colors print out accurately, scanning or copying black & white or color photos as well as printing photos from my computer produce great results... plus the machine is relatively user-friendly and intuitive. I've only experienced two or three paper jams in the 3 years I've used this machine, and have never had to call HP for customer support. Importantly, my HP 7740 doesn't eat up too many ink cartridges, and when I need replacements, the 952XL cartridges are readily available and reasonably priced. My HP7740 used daily at home by both myself and my wife from our respective Macbook Pros. This is clearly the best and most reliable printer I've ever owned and deserves a place in the "Computer Printer Hall of Fame." I highly recommend (in fact, I just recommended to a friend and hers will be delivered later today).

If I load envelopes in tray 1 and paper in tray 2 why cant this thing print from the tray with paper unless I am printing envelopes. Lock the tray. How exactly. If I DL basic software and want to try the full software it just makes another printer with the same name but two different software piles. Smart HP? I cant find anything smart in it. More jumble. Want a divorce, make your wife install this. Does anyone have microscopic fingers that work on the touch screen? Brainless. When it prints, it prints fast and can do both sides fast too. that is why there are 2 stars. Structure is good. So much promise and such messed up software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features, 11x17 very nice! After 10,000+ pages, still running strong! The ability to scan and print 11x17's for what I do is a must (Building Construction Documents). A few hitches there and again, but generally a very reliable printer. Highly recommend especially if you need the wide format!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank the Stars an All-in-one for Tabloid Paper! Great All-in-one for the money...finally found a printer and scanner for tabloid paper that doesn't cost a fortune. WiFi setup was easy and we are able to print from outside the office with HP's email print service too! 2 paper trays allow us to easily print Letter or Tabloid without changing paper and the output looks great both color & B&W. We've been great use from the 11x17 scanner bed as we regularly need to upload paper documents from clients and consultants for building permit submission. Only Con is that the sheet feeder won't accept the 11x17 paper size so scanning and copying tabloid is one sheet at a time...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Could be Better We purchased this for the fact it prints, copies and scans 11 x 17's. Disappointed that to scan directly from the printer it will only send as a .jpeg and it will NOT allow you to "save as" a .pdf. Our clients use .pdf's, not jpegs so we have to take extra steps to scan and are unable to use the scan to computer, scan to email, etc. features. If you are looking for a simple scan feature from the printer this is not your are looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer Replaced an old Laser CM1312nfi (still working over 10 years now) with this and the print quality is great if not better than the laser. The setup was easy. I've been able to print wirelessly from all laptops (3) in my home with no problems. The best part of all is that it will no longer break the bank to replace the ink cartridges as it did with the laser. Extremely happy with my decision!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impossible to print B&W document without color ink This printer can not print a black and white document if your colored ink cartridges are empty. This is not a flaw and it can't be gotten around. So get ready to pay HP through the nose for ink you don't need or want.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Printer Head Failure I bought this because I have an HP Computer and HP Envy Printer but needed something bigger to work at home during the pandemic. After 2 days of use I recommended this printer to my entire department who are working from home (most bought one). 9-days later the printer head failed. Staples will not help which means I have to find a service shop during a pandemic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spot on Perfect I have had this printer for 1 month I looked long and hard to find a machine that works like a tank or a watch that takes a beating and keeps on ticking Ok so the machine is a little big but not way to big. I can deal with the size in my small office because it will do everything I want need. Software is fine, easy to use. I can go from printing 8.5x11 to envelopes to 11x17 with ease. The machine holds much paper In short You can't buy a better printer to do all this especially for the price Most everywhere I go I look at the equipment in other offices and I see HP regularly. I ask about performance and get good reports almost every time I ask.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Ever larger format printer! I've had a lot of HP printers from Deskjet 500 series to 3100 AIO, by far the OfficeJet Pro 7740 wide format AIO printer provides the best balance for end of office and in an office solution for letter to A3 paper sizes. Printouts are great, fast, multi paper trays are a great feature to have, and the printer for all the features has the right size package. Fits well within the office, and is stylish for a nice fit around the office. Great job HP designers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs serious improvements Had trouble setting it up. Had trouble accessing features from my Mac. Then had paper jams that could not be resolved, so had to send it back for a replacement. All in about 2 weeks time. Maybe I just got a lemon. Hope the replacement works better. HP would be better served if they sent out a manual with the printer. Then they would be able to free up personel to address the more serious problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null Very disappointed in HP OfficeJet Pro 7740. Have been very happy with multiple 11x17-capable HP printer models for over 25 yrs. Printer is too big with very awkward difficult-to-use paper trays. Poor alignment when printing checks apparently due to poor paper position control. Was much happier with previous printers where it was much easier to insert/print envelops and larger 11x17 paper via bypass slot(s). Seriously considering going to a different brand printer if HP does not address these issues!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alright If you load it with 11x17 paper the tray doesn't close all the way. Kind of touchy went printing diff paper sizes, end up wasting some paper/ink printing letter sized papers on 11x17's Makes shaky tables jerk around a bit aggressively when printing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terribly Built Printer -- Not Cost Effective We purchased this printer for business use and have used it for over one year. Our experience has been very negative. The printer frequently malfunctions, both due to hardware issues such as printer jamming and software issues such as compatibility issues with Microsoft office suite software and the printer's internal software freezing. With employees connecting to the printer using various versions of windows and/or MS office, we have found many of this printer's capabilities are inaccessible and there are issues with printed margins being off center. In addition, despite the advertisements, we have not found the ink cartridges cost effective since much of the ink is often wasted by self-maintenance and since the printer is incapable of printing black and white without also expending color ink, therefore forcing you to purchase double the number of cartridges expected. The inability to print black and white documents when even one color cartridge is empty is particularly frustrating as printing capability is lost if your color cartridges are not stocked even though you may have numerous black and white cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A GREAT MACHINE FOR SMALL OFFICE Overall this is an excellent printer and I highly recommend it: Very easy to install and run it, very easy to operate via a touch screen panel, fairly fast machine for the money, and very attractive pricing. HP has a care pack that I high recommend , it is something under $60 for 3 years and they exchange it if they can not fix the issue over the phone. Last Word: I highly recommend this printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consistent HP quality, but ... I've been an HP printer/copier 'fan' for twenty years or more … have had and have a range of these devices including now three 'all-in-one' devices and a 24" wide plotter. I greatly appreciate the packaging, the simple set-up operating instructions (largely pictures!), the software … and the fairly consistent equipment design and quality characteristics. My one GRIPE with this 7740 model is the ridiculously small viewing screen -- it is almost enough reason for my returning the device. However, having the medium size format options for printing and scanning keep me hanging onto it. Other VERY IMPORTANT 'features' include the almost ALWAYS especially helpful customer service personnel -- these people have been a major determining factor in why I've stuck with this type of HP products. Also, the optional extended warranty is well worth considering -- especially well priced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed I bought this printer yesterday due to needing something that printed a wider format for spreadsheets. Although it may work well for what I want, I got it home and set it all up, went on line just to find out that the instant ink program does not work with this machine. Now I am trying to decide if I really want it, problem is the size and weight of it was very hard for me to get set up by myself, I am not sure if I will be able to get it back to the store. HP, will this printer ever be placed on the instant ink program???

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Colors off, prints slowly and uses loads of toner I have used HP printers exclusively for over 25 years. My last one broke due to trying to use generic toner, and being an older model (K8600). I must be able to print 11x17 and there were not many models to choose from. I was happy to find a model that was $200. This printer is just "meh". The color cyan does not print true. The other colors are okay, but that one specifically is OFF. It takes a long time to print, but works better with .pdf files. My first batch of toner lasted about 300 prints. I thought maybe it was because it was an "introductory" size that came with the printer. I replaced with XL toner and I am already getting a low toner message after about 200 prints. I design a coupon magazine, so the pages are full color ads and full 11x17 prints. My old printer I would last about 2 full cycles before I had to change toner. I have already had to change yellow toner twice and I bought this printer in November 2018.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have never been this disgusted with a printer! I could not be more disappointed with this printer. Some of the problems I have experienced with this printer include: Paper not feeding Phantom jamming Work not printing or partially printing when interrupted by an ink change request Text not clear Broken images and lines over images on EXPENSIVE photo paper HP sent a new printhead and, while the quality of my printing has improved, it is still not what I have expected from HP over the years. I work in a business that requires high quality imaging and this printer has been the absolute worst, not to mention expensive in lost paper, for my work. In 30+ years of home printing, 90% of that being on HP printers, I have NEVER been this disgusted with a printer. HP Quality seems to be a thing of the past! If I could return this thing, I most certainly would!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far So Good... I previously owned the HP 7612 and had to buy a new printer only 2.5 years later because of the print heads failing. I bought the 7740 because I need to print 11X17 drawings and scan 11X17 drawings. Although my last HP printer failed, I like HP because of the print quality. The 7740 was a breeze to hook up- I was printing in 15 minutes. No issues with the hardware installation etc. and no issues scanning. It does not bother me that I have to left the lid to scan 11X17's. I think the print quality is great for the price. I do like that I can print with wider margins on the 7740 v. the 7612. The downside is that the ink costs half of what the printer does. Hopefully it lasts a while. I bought an extended warranty since the last printer died. I did not mark 'Excellent' because I have only had the printer for a week.
