Rated 5 out of 5 by from I helped I loaded up both printheads but after printing anything they still want to clean and be aligned, and a one page printout is created. This is a bit frustrating. It's better than nothing - I wasn't able to print at all before I changed out the printheads, but it's still not idea.

The new printheads were expensive but easy to install and restored my printer to correct operation. The existing printheads only lasted about a year using HP original ink cartridges -- I hope the new printheads do better than that.

After 3 years of heavy printer use (Officejet Pro 8500), the color printouts had a faded look, page after page, but the black and white text was fine. This printerhead (and its related Black and Yellow printerhead) was exactly what needed to be replaced. Beautiful color printouts again!

It won't print out the alignment page and after each document I otherwise print, I have to wait about 3 minutes while the printer tries to align and I ultimately get a message "alignment failed. refer to device documentation for details." Going online, this appears to have happened to a number of others and no one appears to have found a "fix." I've tried every solution that has been suggested to no avail. A pity, because I've found the HP Officejet to be a workhorse, but I may have to re-think my next purchase if this is what happens when the printheads get replaced.

Well, The other printer was terrible; I decided to try the printhead change- it was so easy! I love the way HP works- two day delivery for free- what a bargain! and the price was cheaper with discount & free shipping. than the local office supply store since I live in the mountains & it's a 2 hour drive to & from the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A necessary evil I've had this product for a few years - long enough for it to be out of warranty. The printheads show that they have plenty of life left in them, however, the print quality had started to deteriorate. After running through all of the diagnostics (which require wasting ink) it was suggested that I replace the printheads. It turns out that it costs as much to replace the two printheads as it does to get the next generation printer at the local reseller. I figured that I didn't want to reconfigure my entire printer set up so I purchased the two printheads and I am back in business. Next time - new printer.

Messing with printheads can become dicey, as evidenced by my work with my previous printer. Not rocket science, but make sure you know the steps very well before proceeding.

Should I order another printhead and subject myself to the possibility of the same problem? Or should I just go get another non-HP printer? I'm very upset with the quality of the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cyan is now printing again. I bought this printhead because the CYAN color was not printing after we moved to a new home. After replacing the printer head the CYAN is now printing, however my Officejet Pro 8500 (a909a) will not pass the alignment test. My printouts look great, but I also get an alignment attempt page printout failure where only the top diagnal lines print. I need to find why the alignment test is now failing, but printouts are fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved the problem After noticing missing ink in 3 of the four colors on my printer, I replaced both print heads which immeditely solved the problem on my 8500 series all-in-one. The only negative is that this is a replacement unit for the original which failed less than a year and the print heads have only lasted three years with moderate use and far less than their supposed duty cycle. But it was still far cheaper than buying a new unit. If you notice the absence of color in parallel lines after cleaning the print heads twice, save yourself the time of calling the helpline and simply order the appropriate heads. The did arrive the next busies day by FedEx and before 10 am.

I have taken it out and put it back in many times and I still get the same message. I should have taken the advice of the person at Staples who told me people usually just buy new printers when the printheads go bad.

We got it for printing pictures of the grand kids but the quality is so poor that we stopped using it for that. We now only use it for printing and copying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely fixed my printer's streaking My printer (an otherwise reliable Officejet Pro 8500) was badly streaking photographs and pictures and all of the fixes on the "tools" menu could not get rid of the white streaks that were appearing. I was seriously thinking about junking the printer and buying a new one but decided to give buying a new printer head instead a chance, despite its relatively high price. The new part has worked perfectly. I was also afraid that might be hard to install since I had no idea where printer head was but the instructions were clear and simple and I was able to change the heads in less than 1 min. Definitely worth the expense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lost color Was printing an 8"x10" picture and after 1/3 of the print, the color changed twice and the picture was ruined. After several test prints and cleanings I decided that the Cyan head had failed. HP does not address the loss of 1/2 of a print head, so I was surprised that only half of the head would fail. A new head fixed my problem. I could not find any data that supported this type of failure. It was obvious after several test prints had no Cyan color. This type of failure was not listed in any of the head tests and I finally decided that the correction was a new head. OK now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's only part of the story The Printhead was purchased upon recommendation of the technical support . Unfortunately, the problem was "major ink leak" elsewhere. The Magenta light was blinking . 2 cartridges and a printhead were purchased. An office table now has a magenta color as well as a pair of pants. The 8000 has been replaced with a HP 8100. The cost of the cartidges and printhead exceeded the cost of the replacement printer and the remaining "in-stock" ink cartridges are not compatible with the 8100.

Unfortunately I had other projects to complete and did not notice the failure until a couple weeks later. It won't print out the complete alignment page and after each document I do print it attempts the alignment test again, prints just the very top of the page and errors out with "alignment failed. refer to device documentation for details." Going online, this appears to have happened to a number of others and no one appears to have found a "fix." I've tried every solution that has been suggested to no avail, including cleaning the printhead contacts and the carriers contact. I wanted to either talk with support or send an email to get a replacement, but could not find one on the support webpage. I tried the returns number on the packing slips and transferred to five different departments, with the fifth transfer just dropping the line. Facebook page has just said my printer has reached End of Support Life and to try contacting The Home & Home Office Group or the Commercial Department. Why not just send a replacement printhead instead of telling it's no longer supported! Why are the print cartridges and printheads still sold on HP supplies webpage if not supported? My printer is the Officejet Pro 8500, a909a, built in 2009 and this is the first time HP is dropping the ball on me!

When you need one order it online from HP to get the right product. Order some cartridges at the same time. Does free overnight delivery sound good??

I ordered new ons and they didn't correct the problem. I spent over $200 for new print heads and cartridges and still had a none working ptinter. So I bought another new HP printer and and after 12 months it needed new print heads and now I have bought new prints heads and ink cartridges the print quality is still terrible and it says the print heads are bad. What a piece of junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed a new print head...again. I'm sorry to be writing a less than glowing review, but I've already decided that I will never purchase an ink-jet printer again...period! I'm so sick and tired of the heads clogging up on these things. The color laser printers are getting to be so affordable; and you never have to worry about a clogged head. But that's just my humble opinion about it. Everyone has to make up their own mind, but seriously, this ink jet printer is missing colors more often than not; and I've made up my mind to go with the laser printers from now on.
