Since then, I've used the regular cartridges only and no problem. I'd like to try the XL again because of the savings, but I'm really leary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't Buy the Imitations I thought I'd try one of those cheaper ink cartridges to save some money, and which are advertised all over the internet. BIG MISTAKE!! No matter what their ads tell you that they equal or exceed the manufacturer's specifications, don't believe it. I purchased one black and one color cartridge for my HP printer and both of them quit before I was able to use up all the ink so any savings were lost. The print quality was inferior with intermittent smudging of the ink. Also, the printer after some time didn't recognize the carrtridges and wouldn't print. Lesson learned. I'm back with HP ink cartridges... for good!!

Now I have crisper clearer letters, and the functionality of my printer is as it should be. I can know my ink levels, it's like the communication is better. I'm sold on HP ink products for my printer.

However, the larger size size of the 74XL prevents it from being successfully mounted in the Photosmart C4580. You must use the 74. The color cartridge, 75XL, can be successfully mounted because it is the same size as the 75. This is not mentioned in HP literature that I can find.

I bought my HP printer because the price of the regular ink cartridges was the lowest I could find in a reliable printer. The XLs are a wonderful plus. I print a lot of stuff and these last a very long time. A great money saver!! The cartridges for my previous printer cost me about $38 for a regular black ink cartridge. The color cartridges were sold separately at $15.50 each. The grand total - $84.50. And that was for a regular cartridge! They ran out so quickly, I was constantly buying ink. Compare that with $72 for both the HP 74XL & HP 75XL. Not to mention all the extra pages I can print!!! And, with the special offers, I got 3 XL cartridges, free next day shipping and a $10 e gift card, all for less than $91!!!

The only problem I have EVER had with HP products is, the "Low Ink" warning appears, well before the ink is actually low! I don't even pay attention to the warning any more. I don't change the ink cartridge until the ink actually runs out!

I was about to give it up and go to Wal-mart. I couldn't find the ink, the discounts, or where I could use my gift cards. It was all very confusing. But after I finally got it ordered, the delivery was quick and accurate.

The only problem I have is that they occasionally seem to slip out of position in my printer when they are less than one-fourth full, so the printer thinks there is no ink cartridge present, and I have to re-insert it.

When the customer service person told me they were engineered to work in my printer I told him I would try them again. It was like magic. They slip right into place. At 750 copies per cartridge that means that my cartridge that lasted 6 months printed approximately 125/month...I AM A STAY-HOME MOM! This cartridge is on my printer that I use only for household things and photos... I can say I may have printed 50 photos total... Doesn't add up to me. Overall, six months is a good amount of time for a cartridge to last...I have had other HP cartridges last a year..

I still get the message the cartridge is incompatible. It is an original (not refilled) HP 74XL that worked in the printer for over a year. I don't print much so the cartridge passed the warranty date. In my old printer cartridges worked until they ran out of ink. My old printer even worked with refilled cartridges. This new printer combo (Photosmart C5580 and 74XL) has been a disappointment.

As a high volumn user it is good to get a reliable product which, in many cases, you do not get because most are recycled. After two failures (another supplier) it is wise to use a reliable product which HP seems to be.

The only problem is that it is hard to tell when you actually will need the next one. That could become a problem as they only cover carthridges for 21 days! So be aware. But do try this if you haven't. I really like the XL color too.

The black ink is BLACK, even at draft speed. The cartridge nicely keeps track of where I am in the ink cycle so I don't buy a new cartridge too soon. I don't believe in stockpiling inks. I have always used HP inks and now the brisk free shipping to my door by HP is wonderful! Love HP quality and reliability. I have had 3 HP printers over the past 2 decades and each one has been outstanding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Last a lot longer than the regular 74 cartridge It is certainly worth the difference in price from the standard 74 cartridge. You get a lot more copies for the money. I have tried other off brands that claim to give as many copies and they don't even come close and often leak, smudge or dry up early. I will only use HP original Cartridges for that reason.

I am pleased with the quality and endurance of HP products, including this last purchase. I confess that I was lured at first by lower priced reconstituted inks, but after two or three attempts, all of which were huge disappointments, I gave in to pay just a few dollars more for quality..Ever since, I've been pleased--AGAIN AND AGAIN! NO REGRETS!

It lasts longer and, although more expensive initially, it is cheaper in the long run. I work from home and go through lots of ink cartridges so I also appreciate the free next business day delivery.

I was afraid to buy them this time since my printer is so old but I took the chance. I had my first paper jam ever and I thought it was an omen. LOL

I had nothing but trouble after a short period of time and finally sent it to the scrap heap. I am back with HP and don't intend to make the same mistake again. My laptop is HP and my printer is an HP. In the very near future, I intend to continue to purchase HP. Thank you for the excellent customer service and quality product!
