Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink runs out too fast I was told when I bought the C6380 that the ink would last longer in this new printer. It does not. I wanted to be able to print more photos but hesitate because the printer uses the ink so quickly. I am forever being told that the ink is low--and I don't print that many color sheets. If the printer is going to go through ink this fast, you need to lower the price of your cartridges. Also, why don't you have a 564XL combo? Not satisfied.

The 564XL black lasts longer than other vendor cartridges that I tried in an emergency. I will continue to use HP cartridges and products because of the outstanding results that I get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink I have to agree with the comments by these users of your HP Photosmart 309a. The prints are great. the ink to is far expensive. When I have a large priject, I prefer to connect my old printer. When reporting ink is low, on the 309A, you can continue to print many pages before they come out unreadable. Again, very confusing when you need to go out and buy the BLACK cartridge. Photo Black and and Black, Why not just call them "PHOTO" and the other one "Black". I almost always purchase the XL packs, but it is getting TO EXPENSIVE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP 564 XL - & 309a Photosmart Does not last long, and ditto on all other poor performance on the ink. Prints fantastic pictures when it does print. However, early low on ink warning and this printer does not seem to want to work with Win 7. I am extremely frustrated! I have done everything HP has told me to do. HP Solution Center, and reinstalled software, downloaded drivers, and it does not seem to want to do both scan and print. I have to unplug and reconnect four or five times a day. and my business consists of scanning lots of photos. HP PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM OR OFFER A LONGER SOLUTION. AND JUST THINK, I WENT FROM DELL TO HP ON THE COMPUTER AND PURCHASED ONE FOR 1200.00 ON GOOD FRIDAY ... HOPE IT WORKS BETTER THAN THIS PRINTER. Also: The direct print on CD function is the main reason I bought it . Prints great, but software to create the CD direct label is very limited. You cannot increase the size of the text and the one that is in the template is too small. If the picture one is using is not in the HP photosmart library it will not work either. I am going to Staples this morning and plead with them to take this printer back and buy and Epson.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great when used as directed I find the HP 564 ink cartridges work well when used as directed. When my HP All-in-one C6380 Photosmart printer indicates low ink, a notice is given that you should continue to use the cartridge after the low ink warning. It is recommended that the cartridge not be replace until you see a visible lack of ink. It seems that I have printed quite a bit after the low ink warning. Compared with other brands of printers and inks, I am pleased with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good quality, but, too costly I bought my photo plus this past summer, and up to now I had to go three rounds of in k. My last round was Nov. 24, 2010. This time I paid $94.50 for the xl series. Hopefully these will last for a while. I had previous had hp printers in the past. I like hp a lot, but when I bought this new. printer.... for my new computer, it always run out of ink. I have the 564 ink cartigride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wrong cartridge Somehow I ordered the black PHOTO 564XL which was the wrong cartridge for my Photosmart 5520e printer. All the cartridges were on the web page that I needed for my printer, but I remember during the order process an option was given for the photo 564XL that was cheaper then the regular black 564XL and I chose that. Did not know why it was given as an option. However, I sent an email to HP and they immediately gave me credit for the wrong cartridge. Was very satisfied with how quickly they took care of the problem, but felt that I should have never been given the option for a cartridge that was not for my printer.

I am beginning to think it would be cheaper to buy a new printer ( they are always on sale someplace) than to replace the ink this printer ( c6380 ) They need to reduce the cost of the ink ! I am soon going to just trash it and move on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from packaging Your packaging is awful and very confusing. Please put the packaging shape (i.e. pentagon, bow tie) on the outside of the box. I have 5 boxes of the pentagon when i wanted to order the bowtie. You cannot see the product icon without opening the box.

I always record when I replace my ink cartridges and the HP do not last and are very costly. I am replacing all cartridges every 60 days or more! I for one will be searching for printer deals this holiday season to replace my HP with a more economical printer! Very dissapointing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Could not get cartrages to work Previously I had been buying regular ink cartrages. I thought I would try an XL. When I installed it I got an error msg. "print head alignment failed". In running through the recomended fixes HP published on line, it reccomends all cartrages need to have ink. So, I bought all 5 XL. Still got the same error message, and the last thing HP said to try was replace the printhead. At that point I was all ready over $80.00 into this thing with no gaurantee it would ever work. I did what I should have done 3 years ago, I bought a color all-in one LaserJet. It's sweet

Names are inconsistent (is it 564 photo smart plus, or 564 just photo black?). I wasted money buying a different product thinking it was for my printer. DON'T BUY. If you just got this printer, RETURN it and go with something else. Anything!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incompatible with Printer My beef is more with how this cartridge is marketed. I did purchase one but have not been able to use it so can not judge its performance. I have a Photosmart B209 printer and the cartridges (3 color and 1 black) are numbered 564XL, same as this photo black cartridge I am rating. One would think that any 564XL cartridge should be compatible with the printer. However, this is not the case. When purchasing ink cartridges for my Canon printer all I have to do is look for the number on the cartridge and I know that it is the correct one for my printer. Too bad HP didn't think about that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ink - lousy markings Please please please put the symbols on the box that are on the cartridge - the little bow tie thing. It would make life so easy if you could look at the cartridge you are out of and go buy a package with the same little identifying symbol on the box. You already have a color dot on the packaging just make it the same shape as the identifying mark on the cartridge. Seems like a simple change. It doesn't even need to say photo ink as far as I'm concerned. Just have identical markings in both places and do it on all the inks! Please!

You will be lucky to get half of the stated copies but still is better than the color in cartriges. The color ink does not last at all and even depletes rapidly when only making black and white copies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Performance- Lousy Ink Costs I think HP makes excellent printers- long service, good product... for the most part. As with most printers- the ink is just an incredible rip and I have spent hundreds of dollars on ink cartirdges. Other companies are figuring out a way for their customers to spend less on ink instead of making it an annuity stream of income- they are giving true value to their customers. While reliability and quality are VERY important to me... so is not spending a fortune on ink ALL the time! I'd like to send in my cartriidges and have them refilled with ink and NOT have to pay for the cartridge every time- I'm sure you can probably get 3-4 refills from a cartridge before the mechanics of it fail for good- or need an overhaul. In an era that is all about green, recycling and saving the resources- why can't we send in our cartirdges for credit and get refills?? It would be a great marketing stratedgy!!

I have been buying the Photosmart 564XL product to save money, but this last set of colors I purchased only lasted 2 weeks to the day. When I put them in the Magenta cartridge showed full but would not print. I used the "Clean Printhead" tool, which decreased the ink by half according to the "Estimate Ink Levels", and it finally worked. I have purchased HP products for some time and have always been pleased - until now!

I buy the XL so i do mot have to replace the cartrage in yet it seams as thought i am replacing them all of the time. I wish that there was more ink in the cartridge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not just the product but the HP online This product is labeled on this website as "HP 564XL Photo Ink". That is not the correct title and is not what is on the box. It is "Photo Black"! How do you create a connection with your customers if the product names are not consistent? I believe this is the correct product only because I copied the image and zoom in to see that it might actually be "Photo Black” not ”Photo Ink”. Since all 5 cartridges are listed as 564 then the color (yellow, cyan, magenta, black and photo black). This only adds to the confusion. The biggest problem is that this printer/cartridge product has been so badly managed that support for it will go away and I will be stuck no ink.

It said nothing was there. Poor quality control. Don't say just send it back. That is too much work. Sorry. It should have worked the first time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Won’t accept returns of unused/unopened ink! I bought new ink cartridges because I thought mine were running low, because my printer wasn’t working. After ordering the ink, I did some more troubleshooting and realized that my printer was broken beyond repair. As soon as my new ink arrived, I submitted a request to return the hundred dollars worth of ink, and HP never approved my return. I attempted to do it again, and still no reply from HP. It is impossible to talk to an actual person there. I will never purchase from HP again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from null I don't like windows 10. A lot of the software I have will not work on it. I would have liked to have more of an owners manual on this product. I don't understand about the battery on the mouse or keyboard. I discovered how to turn off the mouse but not the keyboard. I guess when you turn off the com, that the keyboard shuts down too. I have tried to install an older printer to this windows 10 and I can't because it is older. I had to go on line to install another printer I have. I have the software for both printers. The cartridge that I got from you worked on the printer. I could find it in the store. I bought a 564 but it was not the right one. I had to go on line to find the black ink for this printer. I could find all the other colors but not the black. The 564 is very confusing about which one fits. You need to change some #s to make it easier for your customers to get the right one. Now I have a 564 that won't fit. When you buy a printer( I have bought 5 of your printers) the cartridge only last a short time. As the printer gets older it is just easier to but a new printer because the cost of the cartridge for older printers you can't find or the price is so high. I like your printers a lot. I like my new computer and I like my laptop that are all HP products. But you need to make them more user friendly and now put owners manual in all of them. I don't want to go on line to get this information. I am an older person and I need the manual to read and understand . Your customers are not all young and teck smart.

We've had the printer for a little over a month and have already purchased 2 additional ink cartridges in addition to what came with the printer. The quality is great but like many of the other reviews, it seems like you are running low on ink just as you get started. We use the fast draft for everything but photo's and are still experiencing the problem. We had a dell photo printer prior and did not have the ink issue...

I get a 10% discount and sometimes I get a coupon. I order the high capacity cartridges because they are more economical and last longer. I keep an ample supply of cartridges on hand and replace them when my computer tells me they are low. I like that HP provides a postage paid plastic recycle envelope that can hold up to 6 cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product doesn't work When I replaced the cartridge in the 510 printer it failed to supply ink above a 1/4 measure on the ink level. I've had the same trouble before and fear that I'll have to find a printer which will allow replacement cartridges to be replaced with out having to seek repair of the printer. I'm very dissatisfied with HP in this area. All other performance aspects of the 510 printer are outstanding and I can't see why HP can't get this right.

A 2.3 out of 5 overall rating is should be an embarrassment to to HP. I've had the printer since Christmas (4 1/2 months) and have been through 3 black XL cartridges and 2 each of the color cartridges ( I hardly ever print in color). My photo cartridge is getting low and i have not printed any photos at all. Shame, shame, shame!

Regarding the black ink for the Photosmart 7510 series it was difficult to tell the photo black vs the regular print black. Both had the 564XL with no other way to see the difference. one has the Polygon and the other is a bowtie.

Some of the cartridges leaked, some didn't work at all and some just ran out of ink very soon. That is why when I saw this promotion to come back to HP cartridges I jumped on it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Price of Experience I made a call to HP--U.S. only and customer service said that there was a slot next to yellow ink cartridge and the 564 XL Black ink cartridge, I said "Yes, I see it, so that's where the 564 XL Photo ink cartridge goes." He said Yes, I thank him and so it goes... There is a blank slot there, not for any use. I did not inspect before opening the photo ink cartridge and even on the box it says FOR USE IN 5 CARTRIDGE PRINTERS. I have an HP PS Plus e - Aio printer B210a. Don't make the same Dumb Mistake I did. Jimmydude66

The picture quality and copy quality is the best you can get and HP makes the ink affordable and easy to get. There are always coupon codes for $$ off or a percentage off, free overnight shipping and easy ordering online. Finally one of the printer companies figured a way to get people to buy their ink and not gouge their wallets. Thank you HP, I'm a forever customer

When the package arrived, I saw on the photo black cartridge that it was only for printers with 5 slots. This information would have been helpful on the product page before I purchased it. I strongly suggest that you put the information concerning the 5 slots on the product page. Do any Photosmart 5514 printers have 5 slots? If not, why was this product displayed to me? So, am I able to use it in the regular black cartridge slot or do I need to return the two that I purchased?

I bought it for text printing but every so often I get stuck have to buy this cartridge. Why do I need 2 black cartridges. Getting them mixed up is easy and difficult to order the proper one.

I have a B209a printer, and while the black ink lasts for a while, it's a nightmare to replace, because it takes the 564XL, the BIG ONE, with the pentagon symbol, which is extremely difficult to find. I came here to order it after not being able to purchase it with my colored ink, and when the order came, I was more than disappointed, I was disgruntled to realize that it was the WRONG INK ... it's the small one with the BOWTIE symbol, which does NOT fit my printer! If I'd wanted that, I'd have simply bought it at Wal-Mart. The photo shows the BOX, which is great ... but it does NOT show the product itself, which is far more important!!! I would never have ordered this if I'd seen the product inside ... I'd have ordered the RIGHT one! Not only that, but the "new packaging" which is touted doesn't address this issue either, so that you don't know until it's open whether it's the big or the small one ... Now to contact them and try to get this corrected so that I have the ink I actually NEED ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from not happy i have purchased 2 hp printers, both i paid $299.99 each for. i am so pleased with the picture quality but very very disappointed with the fact that it uses so much ink, you buy an expensive "top of the line" printer and then cannot afford the ink it uses. i truly wish that i had read these reviews about the ink use before i spent so much money. of course i cannot return the used printer to hp because i've used it enough to figure that i got hooked here, if they would take them back i would return both of them and gladly take less that i paid for them. buy something that you can afford to use, and look at the reviews before buying, and this promise that one cartridge will print 300 pictures, yea i probably printed 15 photos before i had to buy more ink, printed 10 more photos and the darn warning comes up that i'm low on ink already, COME ON PLEASE. I am just stuck with over $600.00 worth of printer equipment that i can't afford to use at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from confusion with black cartridge I have read several reviews from people that are having issues getting the black cartridge to fit. I think I know what the issue is. There are TWO spaces for black cartridges. The one on the very left side is for the PHOTO black, the one on the right side is for the regular black. You can tell because each cartridge has a shape (circle, square, etc) on it which matches the same shape on the cartridge slot. The XL cartridge ONLY fits on the space on the far right. I LOVE this printer. I was able to print over 300 pages with just the sample black toner that came with the printer. My color cartridges are still nearly full and I have printed some pages that used alot of color. I LOVE the front/back printing option, I print alot of pages for my college classes and this feature saves tons of paper which in turn makes my binders (and backpack) light-weight. The scanner works wonderfully too.

I reinserted it multiple times and it did not work. Put in another Photo Black cartridge and it worked just fine. Must be a faulty cartridge. I have never had a problem before. Appreciate the speedy delivery once order is placed with HP

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the big cartridge! This is NOT the large cartridge with a PENTAGON symbol. It IS the SMALL one with an HOUR-GLASS or BOW-TIE symbol. I mistakenly thought it was the large one with pentagon symbol because it's called XL. My printer takes both sizes & I was out of the large pentagon symboled one. They go into different slots.

I love the thought of just ordering and having it sent out to me and it is also cheaper to order it. But those days or over, I have 4 boxes of the wrong ink, and I am very upset. I tried to call in but got got someone who could not understand me and I could not understand them and they hung up on me. So, that made me even more madder. So, I will go back to going somewhere and buying ink.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low Ink Warning I actually love my C309 Photo Smart Printer, for printing photography. But shame on HP for the built in scam they have put in the printer for low ink. After the warning comes up, you can print many, many more pictures before you have to replae the cartridge. I simply keep printing until I have a picture that turns to you know what, then I replace the cartridge, again shame on you HP for putting in this warning, knowing that it is not accurate.

I ordered the wrong black, so called and was helped by a friendly associate who knew exactly what I needed more than I did. I learned that not all printers have the same number of cartridges and to order by both the symbols and the cartridge numbers. This kind of service will keep me coming back to H.P. when I need these kinds of items. Cartridges are easy to open and easy to place into my printer, just by matching colors and symbols.

I removed and replaced it several times always following instructions. I always received an error message. I wasted the money to buy this cartridge.

I've only run off 30 photos recently and the ink is seeping and the indicator says I should prepare for more ink purchase. It doesn't seem to provide the amount indicated on the order slip and for the initial photo black which came with the copier. I am spending alot of money on refills! Please respond ASAP.

I have always used HP cartridges in my printer and have had excellent results with all of their inks. I always use HP photo paper as well. They were made to go with the machine and it shows.

This time I was purchasing it in repsponse to instructions for addressing a printer system error, Oxc19a0022. I purchased a complete set of new XL cartridges for well over $100. They arrived in a timely manner. I installed them, they were somewhat depleted by the printer head cleaning process, and the error persists. I cleaned the printer head manually. Problem persists. Best I can determine is that the printer is toast and I wasted the $$$. Not currently happy with HP. And I was just about to purchase two new computers from them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warning: Photo XL cartridges I had my original Photosmart printer for nearly three years. Everything was working beautifully. I always used the regular Photo ink cartridge. I decided to try the Photo XL ink cartridge (to save money) and it ended up leaking all over after installation, saturating the pads and it destroyed the inside of my reliable printer. When I inquired at HP if this was a common occurrence, I was told that this is the first they heard about it. HP was wonderful in their help on the phone and sold me another printer for half-price (which I thought was a deal, until I found the exact same printer for that price everywhere I looked after purchasing). I'd be leery on using the Photo XL cartridge.

I am a digital scrapbooker, and also convert photos (old and new) to digital media..HP printers and inks I have found to be the best for the hobbies and work I do..but dissappointed because I have a B8550 photo printer that prints up to 13 x 19 .. and u have the ink , but no longer the presentation (matte) paper for the printer.

It is unfortunate that it is marked on the package that the cartridge was reconfigured (smaller 3/4") but still fits and works with the printer port. Regardless, the cartridge does work as needed and production is good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ink Consumption too high I agree with most of the reviews posted -the ink consumption of my C309n is either way too high or they simply put way too little ink in the cartridges. The last 564 photo black ink cartridge i had, which is advertised to print 130 pictures, only lasted about 30 pictures before getting the "low ink" notice and showed noticeable indication of low ink on the pictures at around 50 pictures -less than half of what was advertised. The quality of the prints is very good, but at $8-9 a pop for a cartridge (and that's only when you by multiples to get the discounts) and assuming you're using up the other three color cartridges at a similar rate, that's about 65 cents a picture or $65/100 photos. Last time I developed four 24 pic rolls of film (96 photos), it was significantly less than this. Summary Convenience - Good (would have been great, but you have to order ink cartridges way too often) Quality - Very Good Cost - Poor

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product lousy packaging. I bought some ink for my 5 cartridge printer. The ink is good but the labels are confusing. The black text ink does not say it is black text. This box I bought at least says it is the photo black. Other boxes(picture supplied) do not tell you which black you are buying. Unless you are POSITIVE you not only have the correct ink for your printer but also which ink for what slot, check with someone who knows. Staple's clerk says that this is a common mistake with the poor way they are marked.

Have no idea what to do with this...it certainly will not install in the black installation space. Further, all the cartridges in my last order seemed old...the tapes that must be removed when you install, was dry and would not come off in one piece...had to use a knife blade to remove completely.

They had a great sale, so I decided to try their high yield print Cartridge. Since I've had to start homeschooling I have had to print hundreds of pages. I would have gone through 3 of my old cartridges by now, but this one is still going strong, printing great even on fast draft. Also, my printer didn't complain because I actually used an official hp cartridge. BTW...I ordered on a Saturday and had the Cartridges on that Monday! I didn't even have to pay extra!!!

The information concerning black ink for text and black ink for photos could and should be made very clear. Wasted time and money getting the incorrect cartridge and had to reseach further and reorder. I do not paln on purchasing and HP printer the next time.

Then I get an offer in my inbox from HP and to my surprise, there was a sale. Super happy about finding the other cartridge I needed and at a special price to boot!!!

The black ink cartridge, which was 1/2 full, has quit printing at all. I finally installed a brand new black ink cartridge. Still will not print from black cartridge. All the printing attempts, cleaning the print head and alignments caused me to get alert that the Cyan, Magenta & Yellow cartridges now needed to be replaced. Replaced all 3 of them with new cartridges. Still no print from black ink cartridge. By now, over the course of 2 days, the brand new 'Photo' ink cartridge I purchased from you shows only 1/2 full. I even followed instructions to do an 'Ink System Reset'. Still no change. I have been a loyal HP user for many years now, but this printer problem, which happens every time I change any single ink cartridge, has made me change my mind. My next printer will not be an HP.

There is no logical reason that a printer must use both regular black ink AND photo black ink for regular printing.

Therefore, I ended up with three black cartridges, but none were this High Yield black cartridge (which is smaller in width).The person at HP who helped me on the phone identified the black cartridge that I needed. Now I can use my printer again. The printouts are rich and dark. So far, so good.

So even if you never do photos, remember to always check the levels of all your cartridges, including the photo ink.
