Rated 5 out of 5 by from A effective solution for load balancing with gateway What is our primary use case? We used Citrix NetScaler for load balancing in our application, where our users connect via the portal. This portal is load-balanced via a ServiceNet NetScaler. Additionally, our core banking application also runs on this infrastructure. How has it helped my organization? What is most valuable? Citrix NetScaler has its capabilities and benefits. From a security standpoint, It is a comprehensive solution in a single box. We also have additional features such as gateway and global service load balancing. Furthermore, there's a provision for expanding data capacity. What needs improvement? In the latest version of Citrix NetScaler, there are specific improvements in the appliances, particularly in the management interfaces, which were not available in previous versions. If one device or switch fails, the failover to another device is not seamless which is painful. There needs some changes in their subscription-based model. For how long have I used the solution? I've been using Citrix NetScaler for over four years. In 2020, we purchased two NetScalers for our Citrix solution. It's effective in load balancing. We always stay updated on critical vulnerability updates. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? More than 5000+ users are using this solution. How are customer service and support? We purchase support every year, making it more convenient. We have dedicated support and assistance with the subscription, ensuring stability. How was the initial setup? The initial setup is neither difficult nor straightforward, but some products have their challenges, but it's a good product. Deployment depends on the requirement. After complete connectivity and power on, it will have some configuration requirements. What about the implementation team? Local vendors are also available for the solution's deployment. What other advice do I have? Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Optimizing application delivery and ensuring robust network performance with its excellent stability and comprehensive load-balancing capabilities What is our primary use case? We use it for load balancing, creating a gateway to the Internet, and establishing a remote VPN connection. What is most valuable? One of its most valuable features is fundamental load balancing, supporting both basic load balancing and database teams. What needs improvement? The stability is good but should be enhanced. Each time a vulnerability is identified or a new release with applicable security fixes is issued, we find ourselves obligated to perform firmware upgrades as part of the remediation process. There is room for improvement in the technical support aspect. Currently, the support team's responsiveness is lacking, and the technical personnel on calls often seem unfamiliar with the issues or inadequately trained. For how long have I used the solution? We have been working with it for the last five years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I would rate its stability capabilities nine out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? It is very scalable. I would rate it nine out of ten. In the production environment, all users accessing the application have their traffic routed through the load balancer. How are customer service and support? The support service would benefit from being more prompt and having a higher level of technical expertise. Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Previously, I used physical devices for application-related control. How was the initial setup? The initial setup was straightforward. What about the implementation team? The overall deployment typically takes around one week. During the process, we replicate the existing configuration onto the NetScaler. We set up a virtual load balancing gateway, operating in one-arm mode, connected to a switch. In this setup, incoming requests reach the switch, which then directs them to the load balancer. The load balancer performs the necessary load balancing and forwards the requests to the switch. From there, based on the layer to condition, the switch routes the requests to the appropriate node. What was our ROI? Its value lies in the fact that we have observed these devices to be highly stable. There have been minimal to no new issues identified in the devices. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The firewall license is included by default, with no additional costs. What other advice do I have? It is suitable for scenarios with minimal production traffic. However, in high-traffic situations, it is advisable to explore alternative solutions such as Wi-Fi or other options. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? On-premises Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

I use Citrix NetScaler as a gateway to provide secure access to virtualized desktops and applications. What is most valuable? Citrix NetScaler offers robust security features, including SmartAccess and customizable policies, making it a reliable choice for safeguarding user data. The seamless integration with Citrix tools enhances both performance and security, creating a powerful combination for optimal IT environments. What needs improvement? There is room for improvement regarding the pricing policy for Citrix offices. In the past, the gateway was cost-effective, but there has been a shift, and the current pricing seems too high. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with Citrix NetScaler for many years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? I would rate the stability of the solution as a seven out of ten. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? I would rate the scalability of the solution as an eight out of ten. How are customer service and support? Tech support for NetScaler can be frustrating. When opening a case, I often spend much time with first-level support, who sometimes lack programming knowledge. The process involves repeating details when the case is escalated to an engineer which causes delays. Overall, I would rate the support as a three out of ten. How would you rate customer service and support? Neutral Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch? Before using Citrix NetScaler, I had experience with similar products. I recall working with Citrix Gateway for server access, but it involved a server running an application on a Windows server. I have also dabbled a bit with other vendors like F5 for feature integration. However, integrating with Citrix has been challenging as they are not very open to external integrations. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? The solution is quite expensive. Regular security audits reveal frequent vulnerabilities, requiring monthly patches. What other advice do I have? Overall, I would rate Citrix NetScaler as a seven out of ten. Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:Partner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Offers better visibility into user sessions compared to other solutions What is our primary use case? For our VDI setup, we have two types of Citrix Netscaler solutions: one for providing application and desktop services, and another for load balancing. We sometimes face challenges like virtual appliances becoming unregistered, but we usually resolve them through checklists. Overall, Netscaler works well for load balancing in our infrastructure. What is most valuable? Citrix Netscaler makes it easy to provide services to end users, offering better visibility into user sessions compared to VMware. However, instability in network or machine can cause headaches as it's hard to pinpoint issues. SSL offload feature enhances security posture by providing secure connectivity between end users and backend systems. We use additional Azure remote security solutions for comprehensive protection. What needs improvement? Improvements are needed to address the issue of machines becoming unregistered, ensuring stability for end users. Troubleshooting with Citrix support can be challenging, so clearer diagnostics would be beneficial. As for global server load balancing, it works well on-premises, depending on user volume and service stability. Overall, it's satisfactory for us. For how long have I used the solution? We have been using Citrix NetScaler for the past four years. What do I think about the stability of the solution? The stability of Citrix Netscaler is rated at 7 out of 10. Approximately 2,000 to 2,015 users are currently using it, and we plan to increase usage. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? The scalability is considered to be good, almost 8 out of 10. How was the initial setup? Some aspects of deploying Citrix Netscaler are straightforward, while others require professional services due to complexity. Skilled manpower and previous deployment experience are crucial. Initially, deployment required around five to six technical experts, but internalization of administration processes made it easier for us. What about the implementation team? We handled it internally, though it took time to finalize and analyze. We didn't use third-party integrators. What was our ROI? The return on investment for us with Citrix Netscaler is favorable. By centralizing user support and management, we save costs on user device procurement and resource allocation. This approach is more cost-effective compared to traditional methods. What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing? After deployment, Citrix Netscaler shifted to a subscription-based license scheme for support, which is slightly more expensive. What other advice do I have? I'd rate Citrix Netscaler around 7.5 out of 10. For remote connectivity, I highly recommend it for its ease of use. As for analytics and reporting, it helps in decision-making. The main area for improvement is stability, which could be better. Which deployment model are you using for this solution? Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides IP Reputation and bot protection features and can be used for load balancing purposes What is most valuable? Not many of our customers use the solution's web application firewall. We use the solution's IP Reputation and bot protection features. We use the solution mostly as Citrix and Gateway ICA proxy and load balancing. There are a lot of changes with the solution, but Citrix NetScaler has quite a comprehensive portfolio of training courses. What needs improvement? The licensing model and technical support of the solution could be improved. The exchange rate with the local currency contributes a lot to why some of our customers are looking at alternatives. For how long have I used the solution? I have been working with Citrix NetScaler since it first came onto the market. I have been using the solution before the Gateway feature was a part of NetScaler, and it was a stand-alone product. I have been using the solution since Citrix acquired the product. What do I think about the scalability of the solution? Citrix NetScaler is a scalable solution. What other advice do I have? Citrix NetScaler has many features. The solution's basic features, like load balancing and Gateway, are pretty easy to use. It becomes complicated very, very quickly in large environments because it has many features. I would recommend the solution to other users. There are much cheaper alternatives if you just need the solution for basic load balancing. There are no alternatives to Citrix NetScaler if you want to use it as a Gateway and access it from the public network. Integrating Citrix NetScaler with the existing infrastructure and applications is pretty straightforward once you get the hang of things. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
