The 2Wire® HomePortal® 1800HW residential gateway features a high performance ADSL modem, a super-fast router, a professional-grade firewall, and a high-powered wireless access point. 2Wire's high-powered wireless technology extends Wi-Fi reach to more rooms in the home, while maintaining optimum bandwidth. Unlike most wireless devices, the HW series gateway features three antenna instead of two, to ensure greater Wi-Fi coverage-virtually eliminating wireless 'coldspots' in the home.
2Wire's advanced ADSL modem technology improves DSL performance for homes farthest away from the local exchange. The enhanced modem also minimizes interference often found with common household devices.
HomePortal is pre-configured to work with all of the major service providers so setup is a snap. And HomePortal is software upgradeable so users may take advantage of feature updates and optional enhanced services available through the simple browser based user interface.

High-Powered Wireless with Triple Antenna Design: 2Wire's high-powered wireless technology provides increased wireless bandwidth by using a high power 400mW transmitter. Most wireless access points provide less than 100mW. The result: a superior customer experience, providing increased bandwidth throughout the home.
Unlike most 802.11 wireless designs, which have only two antennas, HomePortal has a third antenna used only for transmitting packets. This means 2Wire products avoid the power loss associated with switching the antenna use back and forth, from transmit to receive. Antenna placement is
optimized with a dedicated set of receive-only antennas resulting in greater access point sensitivity and increased
wireless throughput and range.
Advanced ADSL Modem Functionality: The HomePortal HW series takes advantage of an extremely low noise, high linearity ADSL Analog Front End (AFE) and digital echo canceller, providing excellent long loop and bridge tap performance. Translation: the 2Wire design reduces truck rolls and provided superior capability to train on more lines in the field, particularly those lines that are at the edge of the DSL coverage area.
Requirements:
* Any network ready device compatible with the network interfaces resident on the HomePortal (Ethernet, HomePNA, or USB) or with other network interfaces connected to the HomePortal network (eg: wireless).
* Supports Windows 98,98 Second Edition, NT 4.0, 2000, ME, XP, or Mac OS 8.65 or higher (including MAC OSX).
* At least one computer must have a CD-ROM drive.
* All computers to be connected to the HomePortal must have a network interface card (Ethernet, HomePNA 2.0/1.0) or available USB port (Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP or Mac OS 8.6, 9.x and OS 10.2 or higher).
* Web Browser: Netscape 4.7x, Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher
* Broadband access (available separately through a service provider)
