There are three methods for deploying Windows 11, each with its own set of tools.
Deployment Types:
- In-Place Upgrade: Upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 while preserving installed applications, data and settings.
- Autopilot Provisioning: Wipe data from devices to provide an out-of-the-box experience. Load all configurations and processes onto each machine.
- Wipe and Load: Wipe Windows 10 from hard drives and install a Windows 11 image. Back up user data and settings and reinstall applications.
Deployment Tools:
- Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
- Microsoft Intune
- Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)
- Microsoft Autopilot
- Microsoft User State Migration (USMT)
How CDW Can Help:
After a workshop reviewing your device ecosystem, our Windows 11 specialists will recommend the deployment methods and tools that work best for your organization. Recommendations include:
- Conducting a desktop assessment on the suitability of the current operating system image and whether an in-place upgrade may be used to deploy Windows 11.
- Using the Windows 11 In-Place Upgrade for systems where there are no changes to the firmware or disk layout, or where system configuration drift is within acceptable limits.
- Utilizing USMT to back up data when deploying a wipe and load task sequence.
