This is intended to reduce the confusion and complications involved with having multiple upgrade procedures for each product. For the operating system products, a Windows Professional Upgrade part number will serve the same purpose as the License. Reorders Under the Authorization Number The authorization number is assigned by Microsoft when you initiate a new Open License agreement (or initial order). The authorization number is used for reorders, affiliate purchasing and license tracking. Authorization numbers are used to submit reorders under an established price level, and the numbers can be shared among qualified regional affiliates to gain price discounts among related entities. Open License contains two licensing solutions: Open Value and Open Business. Open Value: Microsoft® Open License Value is a software license purchase plan available under the Open License family. Designed for organizations with as few as five and up to 250 desktops, Open License Value 6.5 offers the advantages of Software Assurance (SA) and the ability to spread payments annually. The Company-Wide Option offers additional savings opportunities and a single price per desktop for organizations that want to standardize all their desktops on one or more Microsoft Enterprise Products, and to spread payments annually. Minimum Order for Open Value Under Open Value there is a minimum purchase requirement of five licenses and must be purchased with Software Assurance. With Open Value, orders will not be accepted for licenses that are not accompanied by Software Assurance. Software Assurance renewals are eligible under Open Value. Open Business: Under Open Business, product pools and points are eliminated and replaced by a single price. You'll no longer need a separate license authorization number for each product pool category because all software licenses can now be acquired on one order using one authorization number. Minimum Order for Open Business: In order to initiate the Open Business offering, there is a minimum purchase requirement of five licenses. You may order licenses in any combination of products and product types. For example, a purchase of one Windows® 2000 Server, two SQL Client Access Licenses and two Office XP licenses is equal to a 5-license order under Open Business.
