The blazing-fast G5 processor renders huge images and layouts in no time, and with up to 8GB of memory, you have instant access to large files and assets. With the Serial ATA hard drive, built-in Gigabit Ethernet and high-speed integrated I/O support, you have high-bandwidth connections to printers, scanners, cameras, storage, networks and more. The Quartz graphics engine in Mac OS X guarantees breathtaking content onscreen, while ColorSync ensures perfect color from capture to edit to output. Shatter the 4GB Ceiling
32-bit PCs can only use 4GB of memory. Any more than that requires the use of virtual memory on the hard drive, which is 40 times slower than using RAM. The Power Mac G5 can offer up to 8GB of RAM thanks to the 64-bit G5. So you can store entire 3D worlds, huge scientific data sets and oversized 2D images all in main memory, which lets you manipulate them faster. To repeat: 40 times faster. Theoretically, the 64-bit data paths let the PowerPC G5 access up to 4 terabytes of physical memory. Impractical now, maybe, but the PowerPC G5 architecture allows for plenty of growth well into the future.

And to get at that data, the PowerPC G5 features an industry-leading 1.25GHz frontside bus for each processor, offering a staggering 20GBps throughput on dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 systems. That’s a huge leap over the Power Mac G4, with a bus speed of 167MHz. That means you won’t have a bottleneck getting information to the chip for processing. Each G5 model features a bus that runs at half the speed of the processor.
PCI-X Expansion Slots
PCI and PCI-X cards enable the Power Mac G5 to perform specialized tasks, such as video acceleration and audio digital signal processing (DSP). PCI-X supports 3.3V signaling and Universal 33MHz and 66MHz PCI cards. Your built-to-order Power Mac G5 system can be configured with PCI or PCI-X expansion technology. Three 64-bit PCI-X slots let you add one card running at 133MHz and two cards running at 100MHz. Three 64-bit PCI slots allow you to add three 33MHz cards.
