BlackBerry is the leading wireless solution for corporate environments. It's the only totally integrated package that includes desktop tools, server software, multi-network support and wireless handhelds, providing a complete, end-to-end solution. BlackBerry Enterprise Server software is a Windows NT service that gives IT departments centralized management and control of the BlackBerry solution. BlackBerry Enterprise Server provides a scalable messaging architecture, easy administration and end-to-end security.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server is built on a scalable "push" architecture, providing a tightly integrated, high performance platform for wireless email and corporate data access. BlackBerry Enterprise Server can support large groups of users and mailboxes on multiple Microsoft Exchange Servers. BlackBerry's "push model" of email delivery routes a copy of incoming messages from the server to the users' "Always On, Always Connected" BlackBerry handhelds. This same model is utilized to push calendar information and corporate data to handhelds. Native implementation of Microsoft Exchange messaging protocols contributes to the speed and efficiency of the BlackBerry solution.

Tight integration with Microsoft Exchange Server provides simplified BlackBerry handheld and server management and can provide reduced total cost of ownership. IT departments can remotely deploy the BlackBerry Desktop Software with pre-defined default user settings and using existing software distribution systems, thereby lowering the costs associated with BlackBerry software deployment. IT departments can also then enforce handheld software upgrades with BlackBerry Enterprise Server IT policies. BlackBerry Enterprise Server supports industry standard performance monitoring tools including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) browsers and Performance Monitor. Built-in server alert notification provides event monitoring for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. BlackBerry Enterprise Server supports effortless user maintenance with easy-to-use administrative interfaces. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server software allows for asset tracking through exportable user statistics, enables batch handheld deployment using automated file imports and supports implementation of wireless IT policies. IT departments can run up to four separate instances of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software on a physical server.

With security features including advanced Triple DES encryption and customizable policy files, BlackBerry's security model provides measures for the authentication, integrity and confidentiality of information. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server encrypts all incoming and outgoing email messages using Triple DES technology, meeting strict corporate guidelines for information security. BlackBerry Enterprise Server includes configurable security policy files allowing IT departments to define corporate-wide and group specific settings on all BlackBerry handhelds and desktop software.

Corporate data can now be pushed out to handhelds in addition to email and calendar information. IT can remotely push BlackBerry Desktop Software to users' PCs, pre-configure default settings and force handheld software upgrades. The updated BlackBerry Enterprise Server Management console improves the administration experience. BlackBerry administrators can now implement IT policies wirelessly and run up to four instances of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software on a physical server. IT departments can now set security policy files with group specific settings on BlackBerry handhelds and desktop software. IT can wirelessly invoke security policies such as handheld passwords and also send wireless commands to lock or erase handheld data. The new Mobile Data Service (MDS) feature included with BlackBerry Enterprise Server enables always-on / push-based access to enterprise applications and information using the BlackBerry handheld, browser and software development tools. BlackBerry users can now lookup information in the Global Address List (GAL) wirelessly. A variety of notification profiles are now available to users to customize their notification settings for messages, phone calls and calendar events. BlackBerry Enterprise Server supports integration with third party server-based printing solutions to enable the capability to securely print email and email attachments from company-based printers.
