Puts Advanced ATA RAID Where You Need It Most

Promise Technology completely redefines network server and high end workstation storage with its UltraTrak™ SX8000 SCSI-to-ATA RAID subsystem. This powerhouse allows IT professionals to build huge capacities with up to eight Ultra ATA drives for maximum versatility and economy. A scalable design helps increase performance, capacity and data redundancy.

The UltraTrak SX8000 subsystem offers the best of what ATA RAID has to offer and then some. A powerful i960RM RISC processor, hardware-based XOR engine and 32MB cache memory handles all I/O and RAID functions.

An advanced scalability feature allows users to add extra drives at any time to increase capacity without taking the unit offline. RAID levels can also be converted or expanded on-the-fly without losing fault tolerance.

Since UltraTrak SX8000 subsystems appear as standard Ultra 160 LVD SCSI devices, they’re recognized by major network operation systems (including Windows, Netware, Linux, and Mac OS) without additional drivers.*

UltraTrak subsystems also offer a push-button controlled LCD display setup and array monitoring that’s fully independent of the operating system. This makes UltraTrak subsystems an ideal choice for integrating into networking, workstations, and other computing environments. IT professionals can even pre-configure an UltraTrak SX8000 subsystem for easy, remote installation.

• Create ATA RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 3, 5, 30, 50 & JBOD
• Works with most network operating systems*
• Builds arrays of up to 8 Ultra ATA drives
• Changes RAID level or array capacity on-the-fly
• Uses standard Ultra160 LVD SCSI interface

* While the UltraTrak SX8000 subsystems should appear as standard SCSI devices to any operating system, Promise has only verified functionality in Windows, Linux, Netware and Mac OS environments only.

High-Level Fault Tolerant Operation
With UltraTrak SX8000 subsystems, users can realize Ultra ATA server or professional workstation storage with the highest levels of fault tolerance and 24x7 uptime. Advanced security features assure fast, continuous data streams for your workstation or network without missing a beat even if a drive or data channel fails. UltraTrak subsystems support hotswap drive replacement and/or use of a standby hot spare drive. Once a drive is replaced, UltraTrak subsystems begin automatic, on-the-fly data rebuilding of a fault-tolerant array to quickly re-establish fault tolerant operation. The UltraTrak SX8000 also supports hybrid RAID levels 30 & 50 that offer the speed advantages of RAID 0 with the fault tolerance of dual RAID 3 or 5 arrays.

Multiple cooling fans ensure a safe operation temperature for your drives. UltraTrak SX8000 units offer redundant, hot-swappable power supplies for continuous storage operations even if one power supply fails.

Built For Hotswap Without Problems
Each ATA drive installs inside a metal carrier that easily slides in and out of the external UltraTrak Series chassis. Carriers glide into place along special tracks built into the chassis, secured with lock-down clips. The use of swappable drive carriers and a passive, internal backplane reduces potential problems due to multiple cable connection hassles and faulty cabling. Because all drives are connected as ”master” drives, there are no problems when exchanging the placement of each individual carrier.
