Now Everyone Can Afford 7.2 Megapixels
For great shots, start out right with Sony. The Sony Cyber-shot DSCS650 makes an ideal entry-level camera - or a great gift idea for any first-time photographer. With 7.2 MP resolution, 3x optical zoom lens, high ISO 1000 sensitivity for low-light shooting and Stamina battery power for up to 450 shots, it's also great for family vacations and holidays. A bright 2.0-inch LCD screen makes it easy to set up shots and check results. And 24 MB of internal memory lets you shoot without a flash memory card. Or, load an optional Memory Stick Duo media card into the built-in slot.
Of Megapixels and CCDs
Think of pixels as digital film. Think of a CCD as a miniature billboard of hungry eyes ready to gobble up whatever you choose to shoot. (Okay, that's a little weird.) However you choose to think of them, more megapixels mean more detail and definition in digital photos. That's why Sony packed 7.2 million of them into its advanced Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD. It allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing distortion, which translates into bigger, more beautiful images and prints. With 24 MB of internal memory, the DSCS650 allows you to shoot without using a memory card -- then easily transfer your images to Memory Stick DUO media, upload photos to your computer, or make prints on your digital printer. So, when I said pixels were like film, I forgot to mention only 1000 times better. Now let's forget about the 'hungry eyes' thing, okay?
Bringing You Closer
The DSCS650 has an impressive 3X optical zoom helps bring distant subjects closer, while Sony's precision 2X digital zoom provides additional magnification to zoom in even closer. At VGA resolution, Sony's 14x Smart Zoom feature lets you magnify your subject by intelligently cropping into the central portion of interest in your photo without sacrificing full CCD resolution -- avoiding the jagged-edge image distortion caused by other digital zoom's interpolation.
A Veritable Grab-Bag Of Techno-Goodies
In addition to its optical viewfinder, the DSCS650 features a big, bright 2.0" color LCD screen for composing images, checking results, and sharing your photos on location. The DSCS650 also offers a high-sensitivity shooting mode (ISO 1000) for brighter pictures in low light, to help capture the mood, or shoot in locations where flash is prohibited. With standard AA alkaline batteries, the DSCS650 can capture up to 100 shots -- and when you use optional Sony NiMH rechargeable batteries, you can capture up to an amazing 450 shots. That's enough shooting capacity for an entire vacation. In case you were planning an extended vacation -- say, to Mars -- the DSCS650 has a built-in slot for optional Memory Stick DUO or higher-capacity Memory Stick DUO PRO media that expands your shooting capacity.
Burst On The Movie Scene
The DSCS650 has a burst mode that lets you fire off three shots automatically at 1-second intervals (VGA Standard Mode) or 2-second intervals (7.2 MP mode) -- a great way to capture a child's first steps or a pet's best tricks. And with its QVGA movie mode, the DSCS650 can capture 320 x 240 audio/video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second), with length limited only by the capacity of your media.
Included With Purchase
AA-type one-use Alkaline batteries (2), AV cable, USB cable, wrist strap, software CD-ROM.
