The 3Com Home Ethernet Gateway plugs into a cable, DSL, ISDN or dial-up modem to bring Internet access to any desktop or notebook computer over Ethernet wires. Connect up to 4 digital devices directly to the gateway, more specifically, connect up to 99 devices with an ethernet hub, which is sold separately. Network adapters (such as a 3Com PC Card or PCI card) installed in each device send and receive data as fast as many offices. The gateway's four 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet ports let you plug in PCs to share DVDs, edit video files or transfer very large data files at high speeds without the cost of a separate hub.
Setting up the gateway is simple. Plug it into a power outlet and a broadband or dial-up modem. Then run the Web-based installation wizard from any PC with a network adapter installed -- the wizard guides you through a few easy steps. The gateway automatically recognizes any device with a compatible Ethernet adapter installed. There are no complicated software or drivers to load.
3Com makes sharing a printer easier than ever, too. With its built-in print server capability, there's no need to dedicate a PC for that function. Connect a printer directly to the gateway's built-in printer port. Then you can print from any PC on your network, any time, without taking time to turn on the "printer PC".
And this gateway includes a built-in firewall for secure high-speed Internet access. Your personal data is protected by hacker pattern inspection and blocking technology.
