High-performance, cost-effective switching for Token Ring networks

3Com's powerful SuperStack™ II Switch 2000 TR provides a necessary solution for growing Token Ring networks effected by the growth of client/server networks and today's bandwidth intensive applications. The SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR is a 12-port Token Ring switch priced for LAN segmentation where 2-port, PC-based bridges have been employed typically. Appropriate for either the data center or the workgroup, SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR provides a migration path to high-speed technologies such as Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) an/or Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) where backbone connections are desired or increased segmentation is necessary. The SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR is part of the SuperStack system, further supporting 3Com's ongoing commitment to providing sophisticated, advanced-technology products for the IBM-based environment.

Segmentation
SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR offers a cost-effective method for segmenting bandwidth-hungry networks. When used in place of 2-port PC bridges or costly routers, SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR provides a simple solution for expanding networks and increasing bandwidth.

Investment Protection
Due to investments already made in IBM-based environments, SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR offers a drop-in solution that increases the performance of your Token Ring network. Existing adapters, hubs and IBM-based equipment do not need to be replaced allowing for an easy expansion of your existing network infrastructure.

Port Population
Offering compact, high-density port population, SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR units support 4 or 16 Mbps per port. In addition, they are easy to install and configure and have ports for direct server connections. Six units can be stacked via high-speed cascade cables (sold separately) forming one switch cluster (72 port density).

Future Migration
SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR supplies high-speed options for either FDDI or ATM and ensure a logical, growth-oriented path for expansion while protecting existing investments. Slide-in modules can be purchased as your network needs demand.

Network Manageability
SuperStack II Switch 2000 TR supports SNMP RMON network management through 3Com's optional Transcend applications.
