The U209-000-R USB-to-Serial Adapter Cable allows you to connect a 9-pin RS-232 serial device to a computer or laptop with a USB Type-A port. It works with modems, digital cameras, PDAs, ISDN terminals and other devices with a serial port. The U209-000-R supports data transfer speeds up to 230 Kbps - twice as fast as a built-in serial port. No external power is required, and the compact 1.52 m (5-ft.) cable tucks away conveniently in your backpack or laptop bag for easy traveling. Doubled-shielded design with gold-plated contacts, tinned copper braid and aluminum Mylar foil shield eliminates crosstalk and reduces EMI/RFI interference. Compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, Server 2008, 8, 8.1, Server 2012, and 10; Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.10; and Linux Redhat 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0. Also works with Android tablets and smartphones with the addition of a USB Host Mode (OTG) cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from From blues to rocking it! I received this adapter as a replacement for a USA-19HS that kept BSODing my main prod machine while working in Putty. Even though I had purchased it years ago, the kind folks at the Tech Support division were able to assist me in troubleshooting and ended up sending me this one instead. In all honesty I did not expect the level of commitment and quick response I got, so thank you Tripp Lite. So far it works as expected and have not had any issues at all, even with the latest installment of Windows 10.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tried One, Bought Five If you purchase the cute blue USB to RS-232 adapters from China, you will be sorry sooner or later. They don't even come close to meeting the RS-232 spec, using zero volts as a cheap substitute for the minus 3 to minus 15 volts specified for the "mark" voltage. My radio demo was going down in flames until I changed to a Tripp-Lite U209000R that provided a "mark" voltage of minus 8, right in the middle of the specification values. I'll never go for "cheap" again.

I initially had difficulty establishing communications with the controller using the Tristar software. I messaged Tripplite about my problem and got a reply within a day. The solution fixed my problem, which had nothing to do with the Tripplite cable.

I am using the adapter to connect serial Amateur Radio equipment to my Windows 7 computer for the purpose of memory programing and Firm-Ware updates. The adapter provides an easy to use and effective tool allowing me to connect my older serial equipment to my Windows 7 computer's USB port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as it should once correct drivers are installed This is just a typical USB-Serial adapter that works great for those old Serial devices or as a console cable connection It does include the newer generation Prolific 2303HXD chip. If you're using this on Windows 8 or 8.1 download the drivers from the Prolific website and manually install them. The drivers that Windows installs cause crashes when using Putty. And the drivers on Tripp-lites' site didn't work at all.
