Seagate Barracuda hard drive - 3 TB - SATA-600 4 5 2 2
Good Drives for the Buck These are decently fast, reliable, and affordable on my small budget. November 7, 2012
Works great if your controller or USB adapter supports 3TB drives I've used dozens of 2TB drives before for backup, but this time, I wanted to use larger drives to minimize the number of drives I need for backup.I originally inserted the 3TB drive to a E-SATA HDD cradle, but it will only show up as 800GB. It turns out that my HDD cradle only supports up 2TB drives, although my computer's E-SATA port supported 4TB drives. Then, I tried it on a USB-SATA adapter, and the same thing happened, and it also turned out that it only support up to 2TB drives. Finally, I was able to find a RAID controller w/ pass-through mode, where I was able to connect and mount the drive, and it finally showed up a 3TB.After that, everything worked as any drive. I did not try to boot from this drive, and I'm using Windows 7 64-bit. October 25, 2012
