Cisco Meraki MX60 Cloud Managed - security appliance 4.4 5 10 10
This little guy has been a Godsend for deploying and managing our smaller office sites. Toss in a Z1 and this is one of the highlights of my last 5 years. January 29, 2015
Just thought I would post a warning about the Meraki MX firewall. There is a hole in the Layer 7 Firewall feature that allows you to block by countries. The coverage area of the IP addresses has some serious holes. I highly recommend that you DO NOT USE THIS FEATURE!!! For example if you block all the traffic in/out Brazil, the Meraki firewall only recognize approximately 450 subnets belongs to Brazil. Reality is that the Brazil has over 3,800 IP Subnets. This means you only are blocking 12% of the IP address and leaving your network expose to 88% of the available subnets.I have an active case open with Meraki that has been going on for over 2 weeks. If you think you are expose to this risk contact the Meraki Support Team. January 2, 2015
This product is used in my main office to vpn to small remote offices. we have 25 users and we uses almost every feature. works great and the price is comfortable. but the licensing is a bit pricy long term. that is by far the only problem i have had with this product. I thought that this product was good, but when i called support with a vpn vdi problem they solved the problem witch ended up being user error. amazing support and product December 19, 2014
Magic in a box, deployed one of these in a remote office and it's basically been running with no intervention for 60+ days.QOS for VoIIP and seperate VLAN for Data, great product and company. May 21, 2014
Features worth MentioningGreat piece of hardware. It just works...well once configured. I am using it in a Physical Therapy office. IT is great because I can configure and access from anywhere due to its cloud based controller architecture. I use it for VPN, MDM, network monitoring, dchp, vlans, reporting, and web filtering. I am truly impressed by the interface. The only downside is minimal device statistics. Also the WAN optimization is neat. I have a sonicwall at one office and a Meraki at the other. Similar connections and the Meraki vpn just runs smoother. The security package is also great because the product uses snort. I have had great experience with Snort.Support is great and peppy. Typically you can get someone knowledgeable and kind to talk to you. They typically provide great guidance on various configuration issues because everyones network is configured a little different.Complaints not affecting the overall score of this product:I think that the management interface should show memory commitment, have settings for scheduled reboots, and temp monitors. Previously with an astaro UTM we had better device statistics. January 9, 2014
Great little piece of hardware - no wonder Cisco paid so much! We got this as a trial because our main firewall went and this has certainly met and exceeded our expectations.... the fact it was pre configured (by me in the cloud) made install a breeze! September 12, 2013
I recently installed a MX60 appliance primarily to use as a VPN concentrator. My biggest challenge has been getting it to work properly within the existing network but I am working with support on that (and the trouble is more attributable to my network, not the device). Configuration is relatively easy due to the great configuration portal. Previous experience setting up Meraki AP's translates directly to this product. June 25, 2013
I've installed the MX60W and I have to say it was a breeze. Unit is very well constructed and Meraki's management interface is top notch. You can have a fully functional network with Content Filtering/IDS/VLAN's and more in under an hour.It all comes down to the management interface though. Being able to set up Layer 7 rules in a few clicks makes throttling traffic a breeze without complicated setups. One other great thing is the built-in dynamic DNS. Thought that was a cool feature. If you use any Meraki device you must use it in conjunction with Meraki Systems Manager. The only downside I'm having with the device is the VPN. Working with support currently. February 10, 2013
