I also wish that there had bee an easier way to figure out the cord that came with it. That required going on line to Lenovo and hunting for a REAL user manual. Would it have hurt to mention something in the paper work that came with the drive?

I wish it could have been contained in the laptop, but that's what makes the x1 carbon so slim and extremely light. It's just a little annoying if you need to move the laptop around and have this drive dangling off. But it's truly a minor inconvenience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a good read/write drive! Plain and simple, it works! If you’re looking at this, you must want the Lenovo brand, the slim size, or both. If those are your priorities, it’s a good buy. The included software (disc) allows great flexibility. The cord could be a little longer, but it’s sized to self contain in the back of the drive. There is a usable extension in the box. (It’s part of the double plug that you may have to use if you only have USB 2.0) The tray doesn’t feel super sturdy, but if you’re buying slim, you just understand that sacrifices need to be made. Handle responsibly and you’ll be fine. I like it and I’d buy it again.

Everything comes on an enclosed disc, but you need to install and run the drive first. Lenovo should include an “ABC” installation diagram for dummies like me.

I still have software I need to load from CD's and I like having this feature available. This unit is very compact, light weight and easy to use. I plugged the DVD Burner into my ThinkPad and it was ready to run. There was no need to load additional software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always ThinkPad. i had my old "Butterfly" keyboard IBM Thinkpad 701 for the longest time. i gave the unit to my brother who is an IT tech. moded 701 and does cloud server trouble shooting with the old IBM butterfly. love the unit goes into his hacker mod lol. by i love my new thinkpad. i wouldn't get anything else. surpasses alienware which is now way over price. unless you get the dumb down version of alienware.

I like the clarity of the screens. The newest laptop did not have a CD/DVD. That makes it lighter in weight, but I did purchase the external drive to use. I spent considerable time online, researching different makes, models, features and specifications. I was very impressed with the USB DVD Burner offered by Lenovo and, after receiving and using it, I was very pleased hat I chose this particular product. I'm pleased with the design of the product and the features that set it apart form many competitor's models. I was especially pleased with how quiet the DVD Burner is when it is operating. I have listened to other makes and they can be quite noisy by comparison.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still essential hardware Bought a new Thinkpad T560 which, due to its slimline silhouette, did not have a CD/DVD drive. Since many of my work programs are still delivered via CD, I needed that capacity. The ThinkPad UltraSlim DVD burner turned out to be an excellent choice: it is well designed with the USB connector cable fitting into a slot in the back of the unit so there are no dangling cables. It is a compact size and is fast. The only problem I had was when I pulled the protective coating off of the original unit, it pulled some of the finish off of the exterior. Lenovo was very quick to replace the unit - 3 business days. This is a quality producr.
