Product Overview
Main Features
  • 802.11n Router with 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch
The D-Link Xtreme Nā„¢ Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds* and 6x farther range* than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.

Powered by Xtreme Nā„¢ technology and equipped with three external antennas, this router provides superior wireless coverage for larger homes and offices, or for users running bandwidth-intensive applications. The DIR-655 also includes a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices for enjoying lag-free network gaming and faster file transfers.

With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC.

The Xtreme N Gigabit Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEPā„¢, WPAā„¢, and WPA2ā„¢ standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Xtreme N router utilizes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.

Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, the Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office.

Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office.

Benefits:
Intelligent Wireless Prioritization Technology.
Xtreme N technology allows for farther home coverage.
Secure your wireless network using advanced WEPā„¢, WPAā„¢, or WPA2ā„¢ encryption.
Easy to get started with D-Link’s Quick Router Setup Wizard.
Supports Good Neighbor Policy – will not interfere with other wireless networks.
Backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices including game consoles and digital media players.

D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router 4.4 5 28 28
D-Link DIR-655 I have owned the D-Link DIR-655 for 5 years and never have had a single problem! It is reliable and easy to use. NO complaints. March 20, 2013
One of the best solid wireless router I've used. I have it setup in 1st floor and the coverage is good all through out the house (2800sq ft, 1st and 2nd floor, basement not tested). March 1, 2013
It has been a solid little router. we have deployed this for many small companies (under 10 employees), They have been very solid February 4, 2013
a good router, suitable for a company of 10 employees at most, only problem is not stable, I don“t buy July 17, 2012
I have never managed to set-up a Guest Wireless Zone Internet access with this model though D-Link tech. support team had confirmed that all configurations are good to get it up and running. To be more specific, you could see the guest network, could connect to that, but you will not get an IP address assigned thru guest zone. D-Link is happy to give a replacement router but I do not think it is a hardware issue.Still searching for a practical answer ! June 18, 2012
I have this at home and i LOVE it. I had a linksys E6400 and I was always having issues. Once I got this bad boy set up, i havent had a single issue since. May 22, 2012
I have one of these at home, and it's already lasted about three times longer than my old Linksys router. I have never even had to turn it off and on to make it work properly. it has a very user friendly interface with a lot of options to configure it just the way you want. The coverage is also great, I have it hidden under my desk in the basement, and I still get coverage across almost my entire lawn. I haven't found any support for Tomato Firmware, but I don't even think it needs it.Overall, great wireless router with great features! March 23, 2012
Utilizing as a WAP that replaced 2x Netgear WG302 (mesh network.) It has been a definite improvement. The wireless-n support was a must. March 22, 2012
