Then, it started alarming periodically for no apparent reason. Replaced the battery thinking that might be the problem, but it still alarms. Any suggestions? Is it just a bad unit, or have a short lifespan (about 2 years old)?

But a unit that is dead after less than a year has me wondering if the quality of work at APC has deteriorated. I will try another model. I also have a model 850 that was purchased at the same time. However I won't allow APC another chance if this occurs again.

I expect this one to be just as reliable as the older model, even though this one is noisier. Sounds like the battery circuitry "talks" as it tries to recharge the backup battery.

We already had an APC Back-UPS 550, so when we needed to replace two older units - one an APC product, the other of a different brand - we automatically wanted a similar APC product to the 550. These are compact and with the available ports, outlets, etc., they are perfect for our needs. We even put one in an upper kitchen cabinet to be out the way, and it produces less heat than the previous older other-brand model did. We are very happy with our acquisitions!

I decided to go with the trade-in option, which was a little more costly than just replacing the battery. I'm very happy with my purchase as it was easy to install and works seamlessly with my Mac OS system. The return procedure for the trade-in unit was easy, too.

We ordered the Back-UPS 650 because our other Back-UPS 650s have been tested and proven winners for our company. Rather than spending time researching other products we opt to order the proven product and not chance it with something untested. These units have a very long battery life. When the end is reached ordering the replacement battery from APC is easy and convenient. There is an alarm to 'remind you' it is time to replace the battery. We have 12+ units on-hand of various ages, so rather than waiting until we hear the battery replacement beeping notice, we keep a spare battery on-hand. As soon as the spare battery is installed, I order a new battery from APC, print the APC provided free UPS return label for the old (dead) battery and receive the new spare battery in a few days. The entire process is easy, convenient, and hassle free.

APC systems have kept me going on several occasions. Wouldn't own or run computers without them!!! Only complaint on the current APC Back-UPS 650, is that they dropped the RS-232 connector. Also, the support staff is always very helpful.

Excellent investment, don't go cheap to save money, spend it and you won't be sad you did. I have used APC battery backups for over 30 years and never been disappointed.

It's somewhat of an untraditional use and I have not yet had the opportunity to know how it's going to perform. Can't say that I'm anxious to have to use it, but I am hopeful it will work so I'll be able to sleep without having to set up our portable backup generator.

Other than it was very easy to set up and has made a massive positive difference in the tangle of wires that used to be under my desk. I am relieved to know that my computer equipment is protected.

Owned my ES650 for roughly 8 years now and besides a couple of times with it picking up the slack running tv, light and personal desktop computer for an hour or so during power outages I today carried it outside to try it running a Porter-Cable 120V 7.5A impact wrench which it did flawlessly. My Schumacher 1150 portable power station wouldn't even start it. Excellent !!!

The APC works right along with our devices to protect our devices as they protect our corrections customers. The APC rugged and dependable. Many of our devices are in remote regions that are hard to get to and using APC Battery Backups minimizes service calls to replace them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lasted 9 years I don't know the life span of the whole unit is but the battery is 3 to 5 years and I got 9 out of that battery some people state that surge protectors should be replaced every 5 years and others say 10 years I'm happy getting 9 great years out of that unit. i just replaced it with another back-ups 650 the first one was a back-ups ES 650, the new one is the same with less outlets. I only use it to keep the network up during a power outage. Hopefully this one gives me another 9 years or more

Since I had changed from a desktop computer and monitor to a laptop, my electrical load requirements had decreased and I figured I could move downward from my present APC, a BX1300G, to this one that I bought, the BE650G1, which only has one battery instead of 2 like the BX1300G. That way when I need to replace the battery, it is only one instead of two. As it turned out, I decided to move the BX1300G over to the TV, cable box, Blue Ray player, etc., which I presently had on just a standard surge protector. All worked out well, I would say.

It seems to be doing a good job. It's sort of hard to tell until the time comes that it is needed. I'm sure it will do what it was designed to do. The connectors have a snug fit and may need a little extra encouragement to get properly attached. The batteries have a long life, so you will not need to constantly replace the battery. Thanks to APC's free return label, disposal is a breeze.

So far I have not had any power outages so I can't yet comment on power loss handling, but the unit was easy to set up and connect to my PC. It initially showed a run time of 123 minutes but after its first automatic self check the run time then displayed as 23 minutes which is more like I expected. If I encounter an adverse problems with this unit, I'll be back to update my review.

The only issue I have with these is that they seemed to have shortened the USB management cable. They used to be about a foot longer which makes a difference in my particular office. In the future I hope they lengthen the USB cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Close to Excellent This is a great battery backup for one or two computers - there are four battery and surge protected outlets and four outlets that are surge-only protected, no battery backup for those. The only issue I have so far is that the outlets are too close together. This means that if you're plugging in network gear (routers, hubs, switches), sound gear (speakers, microphones) that have large plugs, you can't use all of the outlets because some are blocked by the large plugs. This is a significant design oversight IMO. Otherwise the unit appears to be capable of protecting your primary equipment (computers and monitors) that have standard sized plugs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great!!!! Received the order right on time and in perfect condition. Unplugged the old unit (12 yrs old) and original battery. Moved all the equpiment to the new unit and have not touched a thing since. APC is the product of choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doing it's job! I've had APC UPS's for many years now, I think since at least the year 2000. I've used one for storms in case the power went out, I used it for the TV and any support equipment to keep on top of the progress of bad weather. I've never had one fail me or fail to protect my computer equipment. Even though I have my current house on whole house surge protection, I rely on APC UPS's to protect and keep running, those devices I depend on to keep us safe! Thank you APC!

The entire process was designed for someone like me: I don't purchase or install such devices more than once every ten years and I needed hand holding and total ease for every step. Printing the return label was easier than Amazon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, handles surges, seamless connectivity Sturdy, solid. Make sure you figure how much surge/battery life you need be purchasing. The battery life when powering a full load isn’t vey long (maybe I should have bought the 1500V, for about double the price.

I've have to remove everything with the exception of 2 electrical items. If I plug in three items, it shuts down and squeals at me until I get up and reset. I am looking any day for it not to handle 2 items. Any items plugged in have to be restarted. Very disappointed with purchase!!!!

Excellent investment, don't go cheap to save money, spend it and you won't be sad you did. I have used APC battery backups for over 30 years and never been disappointed.
